Iron Cove is a cove on the Parramatta river just before it flows into Sydney Harbour. It is so named because of the iron stone that was found in the area by the early settlers. Rodd Island (above), in the middle of Iron Cove, belongs to the National Estate and contains the original homestead of the Rodd family after whom the suburb is named.
