This photo, made in 1954 in Indian River County, Florida, shows me in front of a small house that I built in a development at Winter Beach, Fla. I rented the house to tenants for several years and sold it in 1970.

This development was started 1954 when a group from Watauga County, N.C. purchased a boundry of vacant land, North of Vero Beach, Florida, and divided it into building lots. The original group who started the development were, Ray and Glenn Farthing ( my double first cousins) along with their father, Aubyn Farthing and Ray Farthing's father-in-law, Clyde Mast, from Sugar Grove, N.C. They named this development the NORTH CAROLINA COLONY !!

A large number of Watauga County citizens purchased lots here and built homes, used primarly during the winter months.

My father built a new house here in 1957 where he and mother spent the next 10 winters. His house is shown on page 41 of this web site.
