Interview with Sabazios Diabolus/ Lust.
1. Hails, Sabazios Diabolus!!! Introduce us the genesis and the recent history of Lust.
LUST has existed since 1993 but nothing was officially recorded until July 1997 with the first demo. Not to much exciting has happened with the band itself in recent time due to the low profile I have kept in the underground as of late. However I am currently putting the final touches to my next opus "Genesis of a Satanic Race" Truly my most violent piece of work yet.
2. You've recently released the debut album "Annihilation... Resurrection". Are you satisfied with the final result? Was it hard to get the album recorded?
"Annihilation... Resurrection" has been out for almost a year now, and I can look back and say I am happy with the album itself. My main concern is the problems that Mourningstar productions are having with the release on a whole. The main entity behind Mourningstar is in prison and will not be schedualed for release until August 2005! As well much of the problems they had faced with the release was the controversial album cover, it was a long time before they came to find a place that would not object to printing it. Unfortunatly the guys from Mourningstar were taken for a big ride from the printers and were overcharged for half assed quality work and I think they still have not recieved all of the cd's from Force Five. As for recording the album, it was quite a laborious task indeed. I began recording Guitar, bass and vocal tracks in June 2000, then I put the master tapes away into storage. I was later aproached by Mourningstar do do a release and I had decided to pull the tapes out of storage and complete the album. I finished recoding the drum, keyboard, and backing vocal tracks in June 2003, and did a final mix. For sure this was a big learning experience for me in so many ways. This was the first 16 track recording I had done for LUST, the first demo was only four, and the second and third demo's were eight. As well, I had experimented with effects, samples and keyboards, a lot of stuff that I had never utilised before. In a lot of ways, it was a clumsy ordeal, but it had opened up so much for me.
3. What elements are going to be different for this release as compared to the past material?
As I have said, it was the first 16 track recording that I had done. But newer recodings such as the split I have done with ANAEL and the newest full length are both 16 track. The guitar work is a little more ferocious I would say, and the effects are a pure mind fuck for sure.
4. What lyrical themes are followed on "Annihilation... Resurrection"? Is there a common thread running between all of them?
I think the album title pretty much sums up the entire lyrical theme to the album. The first song "Dreams of Monumental Destruction" is about the protagonist wishing global destruction, the complete nuclear annihilation of the human race. The dream becomes reality. "Atomic Winter" is the aftermath, now the protagonist is suffering from fallout induced cancer, the world is desolate, no hope. Protagonist commits suicide via self inflicted shotgun wound to the head. "Retrospect of Defeat" is the post mortem looking back at the world in a sort of dream induced spirtual/ astral projection of the protagonists self. "Phoenix from the Ashes" is the protagonists triumphant joining of the cosmos, now part of the greater macrocosm looking back at earth and seeing the sruggling masses left behind rebuilding themselves. Mankind is reborn into something greater, something more beautifull, the protagonist is at peace with his new existence, his new rebirth.
5. What inspires you musically and lyrically? What about in your life?
Pain! |

6. What has been the response on your newest album "Annihilation... Resurrection" so far? Do you really care if anyone likes the album, or is it strictly personal to you?
I couldn't care less if nobody ever liked any of my recordings. For myself, I am very pleased with the album, it is something that I am very proud of.
7. What led you to choose "Annihilation... Resurrection" as the title for the new album?
I think the two words are very powerfull and create a good contrast between each other, as well fits in with the lyrical concept of the album. I am very much into the occultural philosophy of dualistic creative/ destructive forces.
8. What does the cover art of "Annihilation... Resurrection" represent? How much of a connection do you feel it has to your lyrics?
The cover is self destruction and fits nicely to the lyrics to "Atomic Winter".
9. What impressions would you most like to leave your listener with after they've heard you're music? Do you believe that most people correctly interpret it as you intended it?
I think of pain when I listen to LUST. Most people only hear chaos!
10. During these days of the pagan and political attitudes being quite popular in the extreme underground metal, do Lust intend to push your own message into people's minds? Do you think one band can give a strong influence?
I am not to worried about that at the moment. Right now, I just want to record extreme music for myself. However using this medium I have found a few like minded individuals so that feeling of lonelieness has been removed and replace with a greater sense of belonging.
11. What's your opinion about human rights? Do you support terrorism?
Generaly I tink human rights are over rated in so many ways. The people who have to much freedom abuse this freedom and should be put under control. Terrorism is a plaugue that upsets the status quo.
12. How do you spend your spare time? Hobbies, interests?
Reading and playing music.
13. What three books and movies would you consider essential?
Books:
1. Anything by Nietszche!
2. Mein Kamph by Adolf Hitler.
3. Conqueror Manifesto by Helmkamp.
Movies:
1. The Mad Max Trilogy, especially the second one "The Road Warrior".
2. Any film by Stanly Kubric, especially "Full Metal Jacket", and "The Shining".
3. the Planet of the Apes movies, especially the first two out of the five orriginals. The remake was ok.
14. What merchandise do you have available?
I myself have nothing for sale. |

15. Plans to the future? What can we expect of the newer Lust material?
Prepare for the release of "Genesis of a Satanic Race", expect pure violence and pain in its most extreme form.
16. Thanks for this interview, Sabazios... Your final bullets...
YOUR PAIN IS MY LUST!
