Television is accepting Gay / Lesbian and their Families! How long before these families are accepted as "normal" in society today? Mary Says: I was flipping through the tv channels one day, when I saw a program interviewing gay and lesbian families. Two lesbians had had a boy child, and two gays had two daughters. The children claim to be "straight" and happy in their lives. They were teased and bullied, and misunderstood by young friends, but the children see their families as normal. The parents do their best to maintain a balanced household and raise their children to be happy and healthy... and their best seems to be quite good! The men claimed that they have already spoken to their daughters about menstruation and bras, and should they have any problems they wish to discuss with another female ("girl-talk", haha, funny word), their neighbor claimed she had already declared herself willing to help out in any way. The son of the two lesbians grew up to be "straight" with his girlfriend ("we've been together 6 months today... I'm 17, it's a big deal..."). He said he had been teased when he was younger, but as the teenagers around him grew up and became more open-minded, the teasing lessened and eventually stopped, until everybody accepted his parents to be ... well, parents. Cool, huh? With the internet era begins the era of Acceptance! And in Television... What children don't watch television?? It has become an educator, along with parents, school, friends, family. And if the television influences the children positively on "tense, taboo" topics such as lesbians, gays, and their families, then the next generation will be raising eyebrows whenever someone else says, "Lesbians are abnormal and sick!" Ofcourse some parents won't let their children accept that it's normal (my parents think it's abnormal too, and here is mary, preaching on how normal it is), and there will always be Christians who say, "If God had wanted men to be gay, then why did He make Eve?" Good question. Let's ask Him ourselves... But did Adam and Eve ever exsist or are they just myths??!! But I was talking about television... Riiight, an example of how accepted lesbians are on television is the example of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Those of you who watch it will know Willow, the Wicca witch, who broke up with her boyfriend Oz the werewolf (raises eyebrows of those who've never watched Buffy, huh? Sounds like any other soap opera? believe mary when she says Buffy can open eyes!)... And Willow meets and falls in love with Tara, another Wicca witch. More or less love-at-first-sight, and very good for each other. (see picture) So there you are then. :-) |
