- A percentage is the number of part in every 100, they can be written as fractions very easily with the
denominator being 100.
- Remember that 1/100 is equivalent to 1%.
- Percentages can also be converted to decimal. 0.01 is equivalent to 1%.
The number lines below show the equivalences at every 10%.
Here's a few examples of converting percentages into fractions.
- 60% is equivalent to
- 60/100 using equivalent fractions, its lowest form is
- 3/5
- 120% is equivalent to
- 120/100 = 1 20/100 which is equivalent to
- 1 1/5.
Now lets do it the other way round.
Fractions into percentages
- Any fraction can be changed into a percentage easily by multiplying by 100.
- Example: 3/4
3/4 × 100
75%
Calculating with Percentages
- To find a percentage of a number, you can use the same principle as for fractions.
- Example: 15% of �40 can be found by calculating 15/100 × 40 = �6.
- To find a number as a percentage of another number, you can simply write it as a fraction and convert.
- Example: 22 as a percentage 80 can be found by calculating 22/80 × 100 = 27.5%.
