All about percentages!

• If you understood the fractions pages then you'll find percentages easy.
• A percentage is the number of part in every 100, they can be written as fractions very easily with the denominator being 100.
• Remember that ¹/₁₀₀ is equivalent to 1%.
• Percentages can also be converted to decimal. 0.01 is equivalent to 1%.

The number lines below show the equivalences at every 10%.

Here's a few examples of converting percentages into fractions.

1. 60% is equivalent to
   • ⁶⁰/₁₀₀ using equivalent fractions, its lowest form is
   • ³/₅

2. 120% is equivalent to
   • ¹²⁰/₁₀₀ = 1 ²⁰/₁₀₀ which is equivalent to
   • 1 ¹/₅.

Now lets do it the other way round.

• Any fraction can be changed into a percentage easily by multiplying by 100.
• Example: ³/₄ ³/₄ × 100 75%

• To find a percentage of a number, you can use the same principle as for fractions.
• Example: 15% of �40 can be found by calculating ¹⁵/₁₀₀ × 40 = �6.

• To find a number as a percentage of another number, you can simply write it as a fraction and convert.
• Example: 22 as a percentage 80 can be found by calculating ²²/₈₀ × 100 = 27.5%.
