On November 7th we were contacted by Fairfields Arts Centre to film a dance event taking place at Central Studio on November 8th. Fortunately, one of our members, David Mann, who already had experience of filming at Central Studio, made himself available at very short notice. The event was successfully recorded and a DVD will be made in due course.
In early October we were contacted by an independent writer and director regarding the possibility of filming his new play at Central Studio and also by a hoop dance instructor who was interested in a promotional film. On Sunday the 2nd of November David Mann filmed the play at Central Studio and a DVD is now being created. Meanwhile, Doug Mathie filmed the hoop dance routines which have now been edited and can be seen on YouTube by clicking here.
On Saturday 6th September three of our members, Derek Phillips, Peter Cooke and Doug Mathie, were involved in filming the "Culture in the Park" event at Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire (sponsored by Drum Housing). The weather was absolutely atrocious with so much rain that at times it was difficult to focus the cameras through it and onto the performers on stage. However, it was a good test of our "all-weather" arrangements which included a large patio umbrella! (See photo below of Derek in action.) Editing the footage is due to start soon and an event DVD will then be produced. Update on the above: The DVDs were delivered on 15th October with colour matched case inserts, DVD labels and menus. Rebecca Probert from Drum Housing said; "The DVD looks fab....You have done an amazing job........This will be a great tool to help gain future funding....and the parents (of the children who took part) will love it".
On Saturday 12th July two of our members, Doug Mathie and Robin Moore, went along to the "Basingstoke Live" Music Festival in the Memorial Park to film the "Worldbeat" event sponsored by Fairfields Arts Centre. We had to overcome many problems, not least of which was the extremely variable weather on that day. However, we successfully captured the highlights from over 15 events and the making of an event DVD is currently in progress. Update: On 29th September the Worldbeat DVDs were delivered to Fairfields and the Centre Director, Andrew Buchanan said; "It's great to work with people who really know what they are doing".
Earlier this year on the 2nd April Doug Mathie, Derek Phillips and Peter Cooke filmed a dance event performed by "Vortex Dance Theatre" at the Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke in order to create a promotional DVD. The dances were performed by the directors of Vortex Dance, Paula Conduit and Victoria McGrory. The filming proved to be quite a challenge due to the many different lighting effects used during the dances. We had to cope with everything from almost darkness to spotlights and back-lighting. We had a follow-up meeting to finalise the DVD structure and created a fully customised DVD which included a custom menu and custom disc label.
