- Rice? Who's Rice? -

 For all of those who haven�t kept up with the CWS (College World Series) this is where you can get all the information you may have missed in the past 2 weeks.

 The CWS started on Friday June 13th with game one, the game was between Stanford and South Carolina, Stanford won he game 8-0. Stanford�s pitcher, John Hudgins, shut the South Carolina team down to only two hits in eight innings. Stanford coach Mark Marques did not allow Hudgins to finish out the game. Stanford brought out the closer Kodiak Quick. Quick pitched a hitless ninth to wrap up the third CWS shutout since �95 and only the first two hitter since �93.

 Game two was also on the 13th, this game was between Cal State Fullerton and LSU, Cal State won the game 8-2. Shane Costa hit a home run, his fifth of the season, in the third to help Cal State cruise on to victory over the LSU Tigers. Jason Windsor the pitcher for Cal State held the Tigers to one run on four hits in 5 and 2/3�s innings, Sean Martin game up one hit in 2 1/3 innings and the closer Cordero pitched a perfect ninth to wrap up the win over LSU.

 Game three was on Saturday, June 14th, the game was between the Rice Owl�s and SW Missouri State, Rice won the game 4-2. Most all of the games that do with rice are going to be about their outstanding pitching this one is just the same. Jeff Neimann had a one hitter through eight, ignoring cramps in his legs he returned in the just to be greeted by back to back homers by Greg Mathis and Jacob Hilgendorf. They pulled Neimann and their closer, David Aardsma, with a 97mph fastball closed out the ninth.

 Game four was also on Saturday, June 14th; the game was between Defending champs Texas Longhorns and Miami Canes�, Texas stomped the canes� in a 13-2 victory. The Longhorns turned two errors by the third baseman, Gaby Sanchez, into seven unearned runs. The rest is history after that. Special Note: This game broke the Attendance record with over 26,000 people showing up to watch the game.

 Game five was on Sunday, June 15th; this was the first elimination game. The game was between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers; the Gamecocks knocked the Tigers out with an 11-10 victory. The Gamecocks blew a 6 run lead early in the first, but they came back and tied the game with a double by Landon Powell. Which guided the Gamecocks on to the one run victory.

 Game six was also on Sunday, June 15th, this game was between Cal State Fullerton and Stanford, Cal State edges the win against Stanford 6-5. P.J. Pilittere told him self that he was gonna score when he saw the fly ball was bobbled by right fielder Carlos Quentin, that run turned out to be the wining run.

 Game seven was on Monday, June 16th, this game was also an elimination game between, Miami and SW Missouri State, Miami beat SW Missouri in a 7-5 victory. The Miami pitcher, Vince Bongiovanni, allowed just 2 runs (one earned) in 6 innings. The bull pin held it the rest of the way with George Huguet and Shawn Valdes-Fauli who allowed 3 runs in 3 innings but it wasn�t enough for SW Missouri to avoid the elimination.

 Game eight was also on Monday, June 16th, this game was between the Rice Owls and Defending Champions the Texas Longhorns, Rice absolutely smothered the defending champs in a 12-2 victory over Texas. Once again you will hear about Rice�s dominant pitching with Wade Townsend who was unhittable for six innings, and the Owls offence that was unstoppable for one. In the sixth Rice pulled away with a seven run inning. Townsend struck out ten in six innings and gave up only two hits. This was the worse loss for Texas in their 119 game history at the CWS.

 Game nine was on Tuesday, June 17th, this game was between Stanford and South Carolina, Stanford won thus causing South Carolina to be eliminated. Danny Putnam went 4 for 5 with a double, home run and five RBI�s to help Stanford in a 13-6 victory.

 Game ten was also on Tuesday, June 17th, this game was between Texas and Miami, Texas won knocking Miami out of the CWS. Sam lecher freshman pitcher started the game and held the Miami offense to one run in 61/3rd innings, Closer/3rd baseman Houston Street retired all seven batters he faced.

 Game eleven was on Wednesday, June 18th, this game was between Stanford and Cal State Fullerton, Stanford won the game dodging elimination. (couldn�t find info for this game)

 Game 12 was also on Wednesday, June 18th, this game was between Rice and Texas, Rice won knocking the former champions, Texas, out of the CWS, and moving them into the final series. Justin Rutty won the game with a single to center in the bottom of the ninth. Rutty also threw out two runners in a row on Texas who was trying to get their offence a little jump-start.

 Game 13 was on Thursday, June 19th, this game was between Stanford and Cal State Fullerton, Stanford won knocking out Cal State and advancing to the final series. Jonny Ash�s first career home run tied up the game in the seventh was the only run scored in three innings until Danny Putnam hit a two run shot in the tenth to win the game.

CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

 Game one was on Saturday, June 21st, Rice Beat Stanford in the top of the 10th. Chris Kolkhorst came from second to home when Stanford closer Kodiak Quick made a throwing error trying to get Austin Davis out after his soft grounder to the left side. "It's funny that the things that are the most fun sometimes are the most stressful," Rice coach Wayne Graham said.

 Game two was on Sunday, June 22nd, Stanford pulverized Rice in an 8-3 victory. "This game was all about John Hudgins," said Marquess, at the CWS for the 13th time. "We've had some great pitchers at Stanford, but I don't think any of the pitchers from any of the teams I've brought here has accomplished what John has accomplished during these 10 days. I don't know whether it can be matched. Pressure games. Short rest. Just a phenomenal job." Hidgins pitched three games totaling over 300 pitches in the span ten days.

 Game three was on Monday, June 23rd, Rice killed the Stanford Cardinals in a 14-2 victory. Rice scored three runs in the fist and kept on adding them on after that. Phillip Humber pitched the entire game and only gave up two runs in nine innings. The Cardinal's John Hudgins, who tied a College World Series record with three wins, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Stanford's Sam Fuld now holds the record for most hits in the CWS with 24.
