The barn is situated in a small hamlet called 'Le Pigou' and is 2km from
the village of Allemans which has a bar, small shop and bakery.
Close by are the pretty villages of Aubeterre and St Aulaye which
provide sandy banks and safe river swimming. Also provided are
children's amenities and restaurants. Local amenities provide lakes
swimming, horse riding, tennis, canoeing and VTT (mountain bike hire).
Le Pigou is 8km from the town of Riberac which boasts a superb
Friday market and has a large swimming pool, tennis courts,
bars and restaurants.
Local Chateaux
Within a radius of 30km one can visit Brantome, the Venice of Perigord
region, the chateaux of Bourdeilles, or the prehistoric caves at Grotte
de Villars. Slightly further afield are the pretty towns of Sarlat, St Foy
La Grande and Domme on the Dordogne river itself. The historic town
of Perigueux is a maze of small alley ways and open squares ideal for
window shopping and watching street artists. Wednesday is market day.
In the other direction is the beautiful and interesting town of Cognac
where guided tours of the distillery are available. Bergerac is
picturesque old town and has the nearest airport to the property
being only 1 hour away. The shopping alleyways in the town lead
down to a large open expanse of river. The area is surrounded
by vineyards and provides some excellent wines.
For the wine connoisseur Bordeaux and St Emillion are within
easy distance.
