Bobby was surprised on his sixteenth birthday with the news that he had gotten his girlfriend, Nia, pregnant. He was initially surprised when he first heard of the news, but was excited to know he was going to be a father. But wait, he was going to be a young father! Bobby starts to juggle his new life with Nia feeling constantly sad, him trying to focus on school and friends, while he knows he is expecting a baby on the way. The way the book was written really demonstrated the thinking and emotions Bobby had to undergo for this new change. The format was alsomst as if every other chapter was a flashback. It was a "THEN" and "NOW" series. The THEN showed Bobby's expressing his thoughts and reactions to when he found out about the pregnancy. It involves Nia when she was well and explains the relationship they had when they were awaiting the arrival of Feather. The NOW showed Bobby's struggle with his baby after she was born. He was the father, taking care of his baby girl and no one cold take her away from him. This book was very well-written and realistic. Though it is extremely hard to see a man take on his responsiblilty, teeange pregnancy is common in today's society. It can teach a person about responsibility and accepting the consequences that come with their actions. The First Part Last demonstrates the importance of life; if one is given that gift, don't take it away. Happiness is found where there is love and having a loving family brings in all the love one could ever want. |
