AwardsRosa Parks was given numerous awards for her accomplishments during the Civil Rights Movement. One of these honorary degrees consist of the major thoroughfare in Detroit is named after her. SCLC sponsors an annual Rosa Parks Freedom Award and the Spingarn Medal, NAACP, 1979. She received the Martin Luther King Jr Award, 1980 and a Service Award, Ebony in 1980. Another Martin Luther King Jr Nonviolent Peace Prize was awarded in 1980, along with The Eleanor Roosevelt Women of Courage Award, Wonder Women Foundation in 1984. Medal of Honor, awarded during the 100th birthday celebration of the Statue of Liberty, 1986; Martin Luther King Jr Leadership Award, 1987; Adam Clayton Powell Jr Legislative Achievement Award, 1990 are a few mnore of her achievements. There was also the Rosa Parks Peace Prize; honored with Day of Recognition by Wayne County Commission and the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal of Honor given in 1999. |
