THE JOYS OF STREET FOOD #020

I have a question for Dewi on The Joys of Street Food. It all sounded delicious, except that I was wondering about edibility of chicken feet. Since birds feet are essentially bones with skin all around and claws at the end, do you munch on the skin only ?  -Joanne (QC, Canada)

Actually yes, its edible. The chicken feet are thoroughly cleaned then marinated in a special sauce. Me and my friends choose feet that are particularly fat and when it's cooked it's quite crunchy. Of course you don't eat the bones.  –dewi

How to enjoy Chicken Feet Dish…
‘Chicken feet’ is one of the many dimsums you find in Chinese restaurants.  It is prepared spicy with black beans (tausi) and you normally find 3 feet in one tiny saucer, not just a pair. It is a favorite “pulutan” among drinkers and best eaten piping hot with a nice cold beer to chase it down.

Don’t be afraid to eat it -- it is clean.  The feet are dipped for a few minutes in hot water, so you can peel the entire scaly skin plus nails from off the feet, like you would a pair of stockings.  What is left are clean white legs of fat and bones.

So, how to eat it? Just chew it down to a pulp with the spicy sauce and enjoy it with a bottle of San Miguel beer.  As long as you’re not looking for any nutritional value and as long as it is enjoyed in the spirit of fun, Chicken feet can be yummy, and fatty!  -Owner of Sim's Siomai Haus

GOOD LUCK AND CHEERS  #021

Dear BQ,

One of your stellar writers - Dulz Cuna - invited me to your site.  I'm not keen on webblogs, but my 20-something daughter is. Last night I told her about your site, and she just might surf into it one of these days, and perhaps leave you with some blogs of her own.. She has a personal website and another homepage that supplements her work as an English lecturer at a university here in Bangkok where we have come to work.  Anyway, goodluck and cheers !  I'll be visiting your home every now and then if only to partake of those bits in your foodcart ... and to feel home.
