The year is 12,090 AD, a time when men no longer rule the Earth, and monsters run rampant beneath the lenient claws of vampires. Enforcing an archaic feudal system tinged with the blood of oppressed humans, vampires rule in aristocratic clans that subject people to their every passing whim.
One village, singled out by the ancient Count Magnus Lee, is prey to the vampire's desires, and must give forth a young woman named Doris, whom he has chosen to entertain him for the rest of her lifetime. In desperation, Doris hires a mysterious Vampire Hunter known only as 'D' to kill the Count. Conspiracies against D and hidden plots to thwart the Count's intentions complicate matters further - and time is running out for Doris! It is up to the Vampire Hunter to slay the tyrannical Count, destroy his legacy, and save the girl in one stroke!

Saying this movie is horrible would be a compliment to it. It had a total lack of character build, and I found myself dozing off several times. And had I been "D" I would of slapped Doris several times for her out right stupidity. "D" is hired by Doris after she is bitten to protect her from the Count. What does Doris pay him with? She offers him a warm bed, hot meals, and of course her. "D" doesn't have a desire to be loved, or so says the story, however "D" seems to be constantly battling with himself (and his talking hand) about whether or not he wants to be. So, um, make up your mind, maybe?
The last scene left me confussed in the bad way, not like in Perfect Blue. I had no feelings towards any of the characters, had they all died I would of been just fine with that. The only thing I did enjoy was "D"'s talking hand, which was the comic relief of the whole plot. The only real reason anyone should watch this is to get an idea before you watch Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

I completely agree wholeheartedly with Becca. This movie lacked any real substance, and left you with that "did i just waste 2 hours?" feeling. D was the only cool part of the movie, and had only a few real fights, and most were lame and uninventive. Doris was very annoying, and even the count was lame, I was waiting for him to say "blah, I've come to suck your blood". You really have to sit through this however to be able to understand much about Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Which is about 50 million times better then this. However its crapiness is probably because its older then most of our modern anime, and I might just be slightly disheartened because not many guts fell to the floor, and not many woman ran around scantily clad (damn!). Not the worst I have ever seen, but definately not the best.
