Joe's Review

2 Fast 2 Furious is far from a vast improvement upon the original but did anyone seriously expect it to be? Lacking the badass charm of Vin Diesel as well as the consistency of Rob Cohen at the helm, the project suffers greatly. The story ends up being tired, dry, and formulaic, far beyond the reasonable level of any. The only noticeable thing within the film to take not of is the rising star power of Tyrese Gibson but even he can’t save this picture from being more then a dud. Unfortunately the filmmakers spend too much time focusing on the scantily clad babes and the roar of the adrenaline powered cars to realize how ridiculous the dialogue in the script sounds. When they finish talking their “street lingo”, the dialogue that comes out sounds no better or more coherent then what they were speaking before.

The special effects, as impressive as they may seem, still maintain an obvious computer graphic quality to them. If there ever was a redeeming quality for fans of the series, it had to be the semi-realistic racing scenes. Most of the racing sequences are done on a computer with the actors placed in motionless cars against a blue screen. With nothing else expected from the sequel, this had to be the biggest disappointment of this film. 2 Fast 2 Furious is just another joke of a film added on to the already crappy June line-up … with that said, Finding Nemo should have no problem making a killing this summer as long as duds like this continue to make their quick entrance and exit in and out of theaters.
