If I could only describe this movie to you in once sentence I would say, "This is the most violent and bloody movie I have ever seen." I have never seen a film that is bloodier or gorier than this. This is definitely not a movie for children or people that are squeamish about blood, guts and gore. If you are squeamish and go to see this movie, you will probably walk out of it, just like the three or four people that walked out when I saw it.
Even though I tell you it’s bloody beyond your imagination, I’m not saying that this is a bad movie. In fact, I think this is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time, and I cannot wait to see Vol. 2. The plot is perhaps a bit far fetched, but with this sort of movie you have to suspend your disbelief for almost two hours. It’s Quentin Tarantino so you sort of know what to expect walking in if you have seen any of this other movies.
The action/fighting sequences are some of the coolest I have ever seen. There is a twenty-minute fight scene, which is done almost entirely in black and white. It is very tasteful that it was done in black and white, because I don’t think anyone would have been able to watch that scene if it was in color because it was very gory. That was one of my favorite parts of the movie though.
Another cool part of the movie is the anime part. The story of Oren-Ishii’s (Lucy Liu) childhood is in anime, and it is done beautifully. It wasn’t excessively gory, like some anime can be. It was just really fun to watch.
If you have seen any of Tarantino’s other films, you would enjoy this one. It’s fun and bloody; what else could a person want in a movie? If you like an odd plot, see it. If you like fighting scenes, see it. If you are bored, see it. You will probably enjoy it.
