Kris's Review

We all know who Ringo Starr is; at least I hope we all know who he is. If you don’t know, he is the mediocre drummer from The Beatles. Well...he is now doing solo work. No, not as a mediocre drummer, as a mediocre singer. I say mediocre in the nicest way I can. He isn’t great, but he definitely isn’t the worst I have ever heard. So, in my mind, he is mediocre.

I first heard a few clips from this album at a store, and it only played about thirty seconds of three different songs. I liked what I heard at the store, so the next day I bought the album. The first few times I listened to it, I did not like it, except for those three songs I had heard in the store. I listened to it again, and I have decided I kind of like it. It’s a very mellow album, which makes it nice to fall asleep to. Most songs are not loud, while a few songs start out quietly and then build up.

My favorite tracks are the first three. They are all quite mellow, yet have distinctly different sounds. Instant Amnesia is one of the most interesting songs I have heard in a long time. It starts out with a rock feel, then switches to a jazz/blues style, which is reminiscent of big band jazz, then it goes back to the rock feel, with much more electric guitar. There is also a background chorus, which is almost always echoing Ringo.

This is an all right album. If you like The Beatle’s you may want to get this album. You can definitely tell there are influences of his Beatles days in this album. He mentions his old bandmates in a few of the songs. If you need something mellow to listen to, this would be a good choice.
