I didn’t become a fan of Marilyn Manson until his last
album,
The Golden Age of Grotesque. Before his last album, I just thought his
music was too hard and didn’t really carry a good message. However, I
did
have a change of heart and I have become a fairly big fan. After
actually
listening to his music, I find that it does often carry a good message
if
people will just pay attention to it. When I heard he had a greatest
hits
album coming out, I knew I had to buy it.
I have to tell you that I love this album. It’s been in my stereo
since
the day I bought it and it’s probably not being taken out for a while.
Every song on this CD is great in its own way, and I’m kind of mad at
myself
for not liking Manson’s music earlier. He has a way with words and he
surely can put his lyrics to a catchy beat.
I like every track on the album but I guess I like a select few more
than
others. Personal Jesus is a great song. It’s a cover of the Depeche
Mode
song, and it’s odd that Manson would do a cover only a little while
after
Johnny Cash released a cover of it. It’s fun to listen to the two
versions
back to back; let’s just say that they are a little different from each
other. I also enjoy The Fight Song, mainly because it’s so loud and
it’s
fun to play at a loud volume to annoy the neighbors. It also happens
to
carry a good message to me, but it might not carry that same message to
you
so I’ll let you figure out what the meaning is for you. The other
songs I
like, for no particular reason, are The Dope Show, Long Hard Road out
of
Hell, and Tainted Love.
This is a great album and I highly recommend that you pick it up if
you are
a Manson fan, or if you just like hard rock. Definitely give it a
chance if
you haven’t listened to much Manson before. It’s his greatest hits for
a
reason, and it deserves a listen from non fans.
