Gob is a very interesting band. I had not heard of them until April or so, but I liked what I heard when I had the chance to listen to them. This is yet another Canadian band from Vancouver. They have been around 1996, and Sum 41 helped Gob get started by going on a few road shows with them. This it their fifth album so far, the others being: Too Late…No Friends, Ass Seen On TV, How Far Shallow Takes You, and The World According to Gob.
I have not heard any of their other albums, so I cannot compare this to their older material. I must say that I really like this album. Gob is a punk band, and that is quite obvious from this album. Most people will probably say that this sounds a bit like Blink-182, and that is sort of true but not really. Gob is much more interesting, and much less annoying. Their songs aren’t words just strung together; they put some thought into their lyrics.
I like every single song on this album. My favorite tracks are Oh! Ellin, Give Up The Grudge, and I Hear You Calling. Give Up The Grudge is a song I can sort of rock out to. It’s loud, but it isn’t excessively loud, that is necessary. It’s just a fun song to listen to, and it sends a good message, to me at least.
This is a band almost everyone can like. There are elements of punk, rock, rap, and a few other genres, and that makes for an interesting listen. I definitely recommend this album to anyone who likes punk, or just wants to hear something new. If you like the White Stripes, The Strokes, or Sloan, you should like Gob.
