The previews for this movie made it look very predictable
and
typical Adam Sandler humor, which I usually don’t enjoy. Therefore, I
didn’t really want to see this movie. The only reason I did end up
seeing
it is because it was part of a double feature and I figured why not see
two
movies for the price of one? I was pleasantly surprised at how the
movie
played out and it turned out to be a cute romantic comedy.
Like I said, I don’t enjoy the typical Adam Sandler humor all that
much but
I have to say that there wasn’t a lot of it in this movie. There are a
few
really dumb parts that aren’t funny, but those are few and far between.
The
main part I didn’t like about this movie is Rob Schneider. Schneider
and
Sandler often make appearances in each other’s movies, and this is no
exception. And typical of Rob Schneider, he plays a very annoying
character. I felt that the Schneider parts were overplayed and didn’t
really have a purpose. He’s just there to act stupid, not to add
anything
enjoyable to the movie.
I also am not a huge fan of Drew Barrymore. I think she tries too
hard in
most of her films and that acts as a detriment to her being good
actress. I
was very surprised to see that she did a pretty good job in this one.
Maybe
it’s because she just has to do the same thing over and over again in
this
film, but I don’t think that’s why she’s good. I think this character
acts
how Drew acts in real life so it was easy for her to play. The
character is
fairly ditzy and a huge spaz, which is how I imagine Drew to be in real
life.
Like I said, there are some genuinely funny and sentimental scenes in
this
film. There are an equal proportion of both, and so the film is fairly
balanced. I laughed really hard at a few parts and was saying “awwwww”
at
other parts. There are some sad parts in it too and that just adds to
the
cute factor. It isn’t really the typical romantic comedy, but it does
fall
in that category. I’ve never seen a romantic comedy like this, and
it’s
doubtful that I ever will again.
If you like Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, then you will probably
like
this movie. You’ll also like it if you love to watch romantic
comedies
because it’s different than most you will see. It’s at least worth a
rental.
