Description

Matthew Murdock (Ben Affleck) is left blind when he is hit by a radioactive isotope while saving a man's life. Although his eyes can no longer function, Murdock has acquired a secret radar-like ability. While working as an attorney in New York years later, Murdock uses his ability to fight crime and become the superhero Daredevil, battling his archnemesis, the Kingpin (Michael Clarke Duncan).

A Good Samaritan act stole young Matt Murdock's sight, but also secretly enhanced his remaining senses - as well as gifting him with an amazing "radar" sense. After becoming a lawyer - and suffering the murder of his father -- Matt decided to use his powers to protect the innocent in New York City's Hell's Kitchen. Now he stalks the streets at night, a relentless avenger of justice. In a world of perpetual darkness, he is Daredevil, the man without fear!

Becca's Review

Well there I was infront of my television when this commerical for Daredevil came on. I sat drooling along with my boyfriend, everything looked so fantastic and I couldn't wait to see this movie. So, it finally came out, and we saw it, and I must say I have never been more disappointed in a movie. I expected so much out of this movie, and I got none of it. To say the story was lame is to compliment it. Half way through I wanted the madness to stop. Now, I know that it is a comic, and it's suppose to be cheesey. Spiderman was cheesey, but I loved Spiderman.

Daredevil used the same old story line, as almost any comic movie. It explained everything far to quickly, and didn't even make you care about the characters. As a matter of a fact, I didn't like Daredevil at all. His character was empty, and really didn't explain why he felt he had to go out and KILL bad guys all the time. In the story a man rapes a woman, and gets away with it. So Daredevil kills him. What kind of hero is that? If you want an eye for an eye, then rape him, don't kill him. My disappointment runs deep in this movie, but I guess it's worth watching if you want to say, "Wow, Spiderman is SO much better then this."

Jeff's Review

I disagree with Becca on this completely. I thought this was a very decent movie, not fantastic, but good for the genre it was attempting. At times it was a little far fetched and a little forced, but thats the way comic books are written. The actions scenes were very cool, and Bulls Eye was actually a excellent villain (which suprised the heck out of me). Ben Affleck (which also suprised the heck out of me) was also semi believable as Matt Murdock. I really didn't care for Jennifer Garner's Character was a little boring, and it felt like it tried to hard to make Matt and her fall in love. The soundtrack to this movie is spectacular, and I would say that for the rock fans out there, that you should check this out purely for the cool music set to the fight scenes. I do agree that it is no Spiderman (one of my personal favorites), however it is worth watching if you are a comic book reading addict like I am.

Joe's Review

The cast for Daredevil is very well put together and most, if not all, seem to work exceedingly well portraying their character within the course of the film. Ben Affleck is definitely becoming a rising star in Hollywood especially as he seems to be taking more serious roles such as this film. Affleck portrays the character very well and seems to have fun with role as well. Jennifer Garner does a much better job at showing her acting ability on the big screen then in Catch me if You Can. Some would prefer that there be more character development with Elektra but outside of that, there really isn’t much to complain about. Colin Farrell is absolutely amazing as the villain, Bullseye. He does a wonderful job at creating a character that will freak out the audience, which is what his character is supposed to do. Farrell creates a wonderful character that is humorous and frightening at the same time. Despite some criticism, Michael Clark Duncan is great as the Kingpin. It can be said that there could have been someone else better for the role but Duncan does a delightful job despite that.

Overall, Daredevil continues the trend of delightful film adaptations of comic-book superheroes and rises above all its predecessors. The story was fabulously well done and ends in a way that leaves the audience guessing at what happens. The ending should build much anticipation for a Daredevil sequel if there is to be one. With the good there is also the bad. The slow motion techniques used in the fight sequences of the film got annoying after awhile and seemed pretty pointless and unnecessary within points of the film. Another problem with the film was the time length. The feature felt too short and more could have been explained with the course of the film but better to leave some things unanswered for the sequel. In the end, though, those small problems with Daredevil seem trivial. Daredevil is delightful treat and goes beyond the expectancy of most films released during this slow period at the box office.
