Most people have never heard of the American Chills. This is a band from Tennessee, and is not played on big radio stations. Mostly their music is played on college radio stations. I first heard the American Chills on KSMC, Dragon Radio, at school in Moorhead. I liked the three songs that I heard. So I decided to order their album online, and I do not regret it. I believe this is their first album, however, I am not too sure about that.
This album is a short one, only nine tracks and slightly over half an hour in length. That doesn’t mean that the album lacks quality, however. The nine tracks are all excellent and blend very well together. The lead singer’s voice is amazing. It is very strong and has a lot of range. It mixes well with the guitar riffs and the drums. The guitar is decent as well. The solos are fairly advanced, and I’m very impressed by that. The drums are also decent. They keep a good beat, yet let loose when the need arises.
My favorite songs are This Town, Riot Grrl’s Teen Dream, and Here With You. They just seem to catch my attention more than the other tracks, but all the tracks are very enjoyable. This is a rock album, so there aren’t really any soft songs, but it isn’t hard rock. It’s basically a happy medium.
I enjoy this album. It’s definitely not the best I’ve ever heard, and there are things they can work out, but it is a decent album for band of their caliber. If you want to hear a sample of a few of their songs, you can check them out at www.mp3.com/americanchills.
