2001 Tour Review

Friday February 23rd 2001. Manchester Evening News Arena.

I wasn't a huge fan of Westlife when I went to watch this, I was sat on the top tier one row from the back so I couldn't see a thing! Luckily I had some binoculars with me so I used them a lot. And I didn't think I was going to enjoy myself. How wrong was I?
The atmosphere in the arena was amazing. I loved everything about the show. They didn't just sit down and sing ballads like everyone expecting them to do. They were dancing, yes Westlife were dancing! They still sang their trademark ballads, a Westlife concert wouldn't be the same without them.
The stage was great too, not too complicated, not too boring. The outifts were great, going from weird space suits to Motown outfits.
They interacted with the crowd too, Bryan was so funny! They seemed to be enjoying themselves which made us enjoy ourselves more.
My favourite part of the show was probably the Motown bit. I loved the songs and Westlife sang them really well. It really got everyone up and dancing, if they weren't already. I knew pretty much every song except some of the Motown one's and I didn't know all the words to some songs off their second album coz I hadn't listened to it that much. I don't think I sat down once during the whole show though!
After What Makes A Man they said their thank you's and went off but I knew it wasn't over. They had to sing Flying Without Wings. And sure enough they did, they sang I Lay My Love On You and then came out on this huge frame suspended above the crowd. It was a great finish to a fantastic show.

Friday 6th April 2001. Manchester Evening News Arena.

I was so excited about going tonight! I'd been in Feb and it was amazing! The only thing that I was worried about was that we were sat on the floor so I knew I wouldn't be able to see the stage. I could see the TV's perfectly though. It was my best mates 18th birthday the day before so we were really in the mood for a good time! And it was great! It was pretty much the same as last time except I could see the TV's so I didn't have to keep using the binoculars.
Even though I was feeling a bit ill during the show I still had a great time and when it was time for Flying Without Wings I was really excited because we were sat pretty close to where they go. Well, we thought we were, they don't come out as far as the rail does but I could still see them really well, I was waving like a mad man, i'm pretty sure they couldn't see me though!!
It was a great show. Better than the other because I could see better but not as good because I couldn't see the stage at all. If that makes any sense!

Saturday 7th April 2001. Manchester Evening News Arena.

This was by far the best one out of the three I went to. We were sat on the top tier again but not as far back. I could see the screens without binoculars and I could see the stage great with them. My throat was killing me from the night before, I hardly sang during the support acts because I was saving my voice for Westlife! I still sound really dodgy now!(Monday 9th Apr)
The show started about 25 minutes late. So everyone was getting really impatient. Because i'd been twice before and seen it on Sky, I knew we'd hear this weird voice just before it started so I was waiting for it. So, when me and Nat heard it we jumped up screaming, it was so funny because everyone around us just sat there! Until the lights went down of course! We were sat in a really noisy bit which was great! The girls behind us were Nicky fans and they screamed so loud when he came on so I tried to scream really loud for Kian!

The lads were in a really good mood by the looks of it. Joking around and play fighting. The best bit had to be when they were singing Seasons In The Sun. They were taking their jackets off and then pretended to take their trousers off...except Bryan really took them off! It was sooooo funny! He sort of danced around a little then ran of the stage, not before Nicky tried to pull his boxer shorts down though! The crowd went absolutely mental!
I was a bit gutted though because Kian usually comes on and sings Wild Thing but he didn't tonight, it could have been because they started late. The Motown bit was great as usual! It was even better this time though because Nat and I knew all the words to the songs!

I was feeling about sad near the end. I knew this would be the last time I was going to see them in concert for a long time. We were thinking of going on the Sunday but neither of us had any money! I doubt it would've been better than tonight. So i'm kinda glad we didn't go. I've got it on video anyway!

I'd only ever been to see Boyzone in concert before this so I don't have much to compare it to. I do know it was amazing and I would love to go and see them again. Just for the record, it was a million times better than Boyzone!

Saturday 31st March 2001. The Point, Dublin. Sky Box Office.

This was great to watch. You don't have the same atmosphere you get when you're actually there but it had a lot of advantages. I could see everything a lot better, obviously and I could hear them a lot better too.
The funniest bit was when Bryan came on and sang Wheatus, Teenage Dirtbag! Now that's rock and roll!

It was a great show as usual but it wasn't the same as being there and it's not as good when they're shouting "Hello Dublin!" as to when they shout "Hello Manchester!"
But all in all it was a great show. Fantastic because I could see and hear them a lot better. And I can watch it as many times as I want!
