Shane's mum, without them knowing, had been sending letter's and copies of IOU's single(Together Girl Forever) to Louis Walsh, Boyzones manager. Eventually he agreed to meet the lads. Unfortunatly the other three guys didn't quite fit and were dropped. Louis, Mark, Shane and Kian held an audition in Dublin for two other members. They wanted someone that could sing well, dance, someone that looked well and that fitted into the style and sound of the group. Along came Bryan McFadden and Nicky Bryne. Bryan and Nicky already knew each other through karoke. Bryan showed up at the audition wearing his father's shirt and baggy trousers. They thought he looked a bit rough but he still sang. Nicky and Bryan were asked back to the private audition with just 28 other people. Bryan wasn't nervous about the audition because he was so sure that Nicky was going to get it. Nicky didn't think he and Bryan would make it into the band because he thought it was really unlikely that they'd pick two friends. But they did. Bryan and Nicky had made it into the band. Bryan and Nicky went to stay with Kian, Mark and Shane for a couple of weeks to get to know each other and to see how well they really did sound together. They had their first gig at a friends, Paul, 21st Birthday party. When it came to Nickys part, the music stopped playing but they carried on accapella. They signed a record deal with RCA, got Ronan Keating to become Co-Manager with Louis Walsh and got a name. Westside. Unfortunatly, another band already had that name so they changed it to Westlife. They supported The Backstreet Boys and Boyzone and won Smash Hits Best New Tour Act in '98. This may not be 100% or even 50% accurate! I've written this myself, with the help of several sources.
