May 2000 –  Headraz’s tent, the ex new Enkaren home world

Let's go home

Daniel, his pleased as punch smile dissipating rapidly with the knowledge that he'd be paying for his actions sooner rather than later, left first with Jack storming out almost immediately after him.

Sam left next, eyebrows raised with a shrug in Teal'c's direction to try and pass off the turn of events in a 'well you know how he is’ fashion.  She knew it could have ended a hell of a lot worse and was in basic denial about the whole thing anyway.

Teal'c walked out as stoic as ever, not happy with any of his teammates, but then not mad either.  He knew enough to keep well out of Colonel O’Neill’s way however.

Outside the tent Daniel had managed to get a good few feet away before a fist encircled itself in the back of his jacket and yanked hard.  The force knocked him off his feet, which apparently was what Jack had intended when he had grabbed the jacket material and dragged Daniel backwards.

Spinning Daniel around more forcefully then initially intended, he obviously had more pent up irritation and anger then anticipated.  That was putting it mildly.  Jack wanted to knock him on his ass.  And, if he was honest Jack came very close to doing just that.

However, his sensibility hadn’t left him completely.  Anguish was the name of the game right now.  Pain, of the physical kind, was nothing compared to pressing the stupid little plastic button that could so very easily have ended a friend’s life.

And damn it if Jack didn’t blame Daniel for making him do it.

The selfish little son of a bitch had literary pressed his button today.  The guilt and anguish and pain he was put through…well Jack just couldn’t fathom any of it.  So instead of releasing his anger in the traditional way i.e. beating the crap out of something,  Jack pulled Daniel up short, with both hands clenched tight around either side of Daniel’s lapel.  He took one look into the eyes of one very confused, notably less smug and probably slightly fearful Daniel Jackson.  Jack squeezed Daniel to him till it hurt, deciding a hug was probably the best – and safest – way to communicate just what he thought of Daniel at that moment in time.  He loved him to bits, but could quite easily kill him at the same time.

Daniel collided into Jack, expelling all the oxygen left in his lungs in one go.  His air supply suddenly cut off, Daniel suspected Jack was trying to suffocate him for his sins.  Then he conceded that wasn’t Jack’s style and quickly came to the realization he was, in fact, being... hugged, hugged to death to be precise – seriously.

Jack let go and pushed Daniel back, the palm of his hand still resting on his chest.  "You never try a stunt like that again, got it?"

Daniel wasn't sure if a response was expected or if this was one of those 'just listen to me' moments.

"Daniel." Jack’s terse command answered his question.

"I promise."  It sounded weak, even to Daniel's ears, but Jack had taken him by surprise - plus since his face had been pressed so tight into Jack's shoulder till he could barely breathe it wasn't surprising forming words was a challenge.
