March 24th 1999 – Stargate, Hathor’s (not so) secret base

Jack walks next to Daniel, letting his hand drop from the shoulder grip when they come to a halt next to the Stargate, Carter following close behind with General Hammond.

Everybody’s rushing around them, getting the tidying up job done as quickly as possible.  The Stargate's already active with SG teams escorting prisoners through.

Jack looks over at Daniel who’s observing the commotion without actually taking note of what's happening.  Carter bustles past, placing a quick hand on Daniel's arm before moving on to assist Makepeace.

"Daniel?  Hey, Danny?"  Jack snaps his fingers in front of Daniel’s face trying to break his daze.

"I'm fine."  Daniel smiles, and lets out a shaky breath.  "It all feels like a dream."  He says sounding distant, a little disconnected.

"I know what you mean, one minute I'm lined up to be a host, the next thing I know the To'kra is telling me and Carter how best to blow up the base."  Noticing Daniel's grimace and sudden absence of smile Jack quickly changes the subject, dwelling on what nearly happened would do neither of them any good.

"How's the leg?"

"Leg's fine."  Daniel's smile is back, but so is the shaky voice.

Jack notices the twitching hands and fleeting nervous glances all around.  "I know all this is still very new to you, but you did good Daniel."

"Really?"  Daniel asks earnestly, he didn't think getting caught was very good at all.

"Really."  Jack answers plainly, no joking.

Daniel smiles another one of his shy little smiles, but this time aims it at the ground.  Jack, believing the ground certainly wouldn't be able to appreciate it, wraps his arm around Daniel and pulls him tight to his side and as hoped Jack gets treated to that amazing smile.
