Ice Mountain Docent Meeting - March 31, 2001

recorder: KirstenZimet
Announcements/Updates
We are "on our own" for planning the tours and the festival. Terry will remind the Nature Conservancy about the strong volunteer interest and presence here.

Sloan Miller has died, but his wife Peggy remains supportive of the preserve.

Charley Hall needs information on North River Mills for his web site

www.historichampshire.org . There is also local history at www.fortedwards.org .

Supplies (in the box on the back porch)

Log Book (Terry will make a record of volunteer hours and of tours.)

Ice Mountain fliers (Lisa will get more and change contact phone # to Terry’s)

Envelopes addressed to WVNC for donations

First aid kit (Margie will obtain)

List of things to beware of, to protect us from liability

Water (Terry will obtain)

List of emergency numbers and procedures

List of frequently asked questions

Docent packets (Lisa will make)

Telephone is now permanently connected, on the table.

Procedures

Visitors to Ice Mountain should always come with a docent.

Terry will let us know when tours need docents.

Let Terry know if you expect to bring people to the mountain.

Record all your volunteer hours and all tours in the log book.

Concerns

Misuses of the preserve - No dogs, no rappelling! A sign saying so might be useful.

Docents do have authority as representatives of the owner (TNC).

Gypsy moth eggs - A science issue for TNC. Lisa will ask them to check whether or not spraying/collars are needed.

Festival

Saturday, June 9, from about 11 to 3. Come early to help set up.

Vendors & musicians welcome. The Church will sell food. Bob will arrange alpaca rides.

Tours - Stephanie will do living history tours. The History etc Club will work with her on tours of the house and the street. Nature tours depart as needed, not at set times.

Talks - Terry & Steve are making a power point presentation about Ice Mountain. There will be no TNC talk, but Terry will ask them for brochures.

Lisa will bring a portable blackboard.

Advertising - to be kept local. Mike will put it in the Hampshire County paper.

Janet will tell the Sierra Club. Lisa will take care of posters and fliers.

Cleanup - May 18 eve, May 19 10A.M.
