Bad Drivers!

I've had theory for years on the issue of good and bad drivers....

Here we are. Almost summer. Hot days, warm nights and trips to the cottage or grandma's house. And an increase in traffic, and people that don't normally drive on high speed highways and have no idea how to interact with other traffic. They are a hazard to themselves and others.

I've had theory for years on the issue of good and bad drivers; There is a percentage of drivers out there, that if left on their own, would eventually drive each other off the roads through accidents and deaths.

Fortunately, for them there are also a percentage of "professional" drivers out there. By "professional", I mean someone who has the ability to observe and react to situations and change the potential outcome. Think of them as "sheepherders" guiding the other cars through dangerous areas.

"Professionals" can read the other drivers actions. They instinctively know what someone is going to do by the way they are driving. And react accordingly. Ask any police officer about the driving habits of some, and they will almost all say that a lot of drivers don't look past the end of the hood while driving.

If you drive for a living, you've probably noticed Saturdays seem to bring out the bad ones. Weekend warriors, if you like. A lot of these people sit in the house all week and don't have much driving experience. Or they drive about ten minutes to work at five a.m. when the roads are empty. No interaction with major traffic.

Saturdays bring out the overloaded station wagons, trailers and screaming kids. Can't wait for the weekend!

Are you one of those "professional" drivers or just one of the sheep in the flock?

I know where I am.
