Professor Evaluations

It’s that time of year again!

So you may have noticed a bit of class shrinkage since September. People don’t like the material, don’t agree with their mark, sleep through one too many classes or realize that they’ve been in the wrong place the whole time, and voila! Poof! It happens. Now that it’s far too late to escape, it’s time to settle down and be judgmental. Ladies and gentlemen, course evaluations are upon us and they are to be taken seriously.

Key things to keep in mind:
- Evaluations are important. – Those two 8.5/11 pieces of paper do get read through. They help not only the professor, but the course planners and future students.
- Be honest – Don’t feed off any personal agendas you may have. Do not write what you think they want to here.
- Be frank – If there’s something to be said, say it, don’t waffle. We all want to be kind about things, and that’s all well and good. The fact of the matter is that if the administration does not believe that the problem is significant enough, nothing will be done.
- It’s anonymous – If the truth requires that you fill in the little ‘poor’ bubble, do it without fear of repercussion. They don’t know it’s you!
- Keep focus – Keep comments relevant to the one course only. This may seem intuitive, but you’d be surprised.

So have fun with marking your professor for once, and remember that this happens every semester. Maybe something will occur to you in January that you’re going to want to include in the winter evaluations. Note them down if it helps. Just remember that this is a big way the university gets to hear from you. Go forth and evaluate!

Soyez-y!

Agora Book Store

The Agora Bookstore and Internet Café is not too far from Ottawa University’s campus. It is run by students, for students and does more than carry most of your school textbooks and general interest books at the lowest possible prices. It is also an internet-café offering students a place to go and relax between classes. The role it plays in helping to reduce the costs of post-secondary education is very significant.
