The new Moroccan woman

The Change in the Moroccan woman's condition

By Laamari Amina     (2ème Bac. Sc. Ex.)

The condition of Moroccan women has evolved greatly over the last few years. They have finally gained the battle to get the vast margin of freedom they dreamed of. This freedom is witnessed on the levels of work, clothes and rights.

As far as work is concerned, women, in the past, had to stay at home and learn to cook, sew and do the housework. Consequently, the only work they could do was a domestic one, i.e. to cook, to look after their children, clean the house and do the washing; some privileged ones were allowed to teach kids. However, this situation has changed significantly. Nowadays, women have a step print in all domains like, business, politics, health and teaching to name only a few.

As for clothes, women didn’t have any option to choose what to wear because they had to put on the clothes offered to them by their fathers or their husbands. Nowadays, they can wear anything they like. They also could dress in according to the vogue. They can choose a fashion and nothing is imposed on them.

Finally, all these things are the fruit of the rights they benefit from now. Women in the past didn’t have any rights at all because man was the dominant; but at present women have the right to go to school, to work outside the house and above all to be elected or vote whoever they favour freely.

To sum up, the dream comes true and the evolution in the condition of the women and their freedom in our society are in progress. Now, they can earn an income without depending on either fathers or husbands. They can wear in accordance with their own tastes as well as voting or being elected without any complex of inferiority. They are even achieving more independence thanks of course to the New Family Code.
