TITANIC
Written By: Christina Sears

You have all seen the movie, and probably all have been stunned by the great story line and affect it had on its audience. Titanic is a Blockbuster hit. It won eleven, well deserved Oscars. Directed by James Cameron, and stars Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

Unbelievably the picture was filmed in various places, such as Rosartio Beach, Baja California, Mexico, Vancouver, British Columbia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Belmont Olympic Pool, Long Beach California, and USA. Who would have thought such an extraordinary picture was filmed in some parts of Canada!

The characteristics that make this particular film so big are the fact that it was based on a real life experience. Society wants to find out more about things they werent around to see. The movie brought an attempt to see the inside look on Titanic. Through the story lines and scripts. In the movie on various occasions it talks about the Titanic, the name of it, how many people were aboard, how many died, who made it, and how they came up with the idea. And during all of this the audience doesnt even realize that they are learning about it. Titanic was described, as The Ship Of Dreams and most believe it was.

I think that the marketing came easy for the picture simply because EVERYONE and ANYONE has heard of the Titanic. All of society roughly knows the story behind the great iron ship, which sank in the middle of the Atlantic on April 15/15th of 1912. But still when the movie came out many people bought the video even though they probably seen it a dozen times on the big screen. Simply because it was a day that history has still been passed on from generation to generation.

Titanic won an Oscar for best Cinematography, which in my opinion was well deserved. I particularly liked when the director chose to do a close up on Jacks eyes as he was drawing young Rose wearing her rare 52k diamond, or better known as The Heart Of The Ocean. Another Oscar that was well deserved was Best Costume Design. When viewing the picture you simply get the vivid picture on how society dressed, what cars they drove, and even what kind of paintings they may or may not have liked.  The audience could depict who was upper class and who wasnt simply by the clothes they wore and how they spoke. It was a great effort and amazing detail.

I also thought that the decision of the tracks played throughout the picture really set the mood on the scene or scenes that were going to happen next. It jerked my emotions to hear the humming as Jack slowly sinks to the bottom of the ocean and Rose saying Ill never let go.

I think that this movie could have been edited a little better than it was. A lot of the scenes clashed. An example of this would be when Rose and Jack are walking on the deck arguing. The ship is in the middle of the Atlantic, and its probably cold, even colder because they are near the water. That scene clashes with the one where Jack and Rose come back up on the deck from their little adventure in the car, and as they do so the director cuts to the two men in the watchtowers. They are shivering and cold. But Rose comes up on deck without a jacket and she is in a dress and you cant even see the air coming out of her mouth.

Also there is a scene where the people in 3rd class are trying to get on the main deck and they are following rats. On a new ship, how is there suppose to be rats. The sheets were never slept in, the dishes were never used, and you could still smell fresh paint but you have these clashing scenes with rats.

A lot of hard word, money, and effort went into making this particular film, and in my own opinion it is one of the greats. To take an audience into the Titanic and show them what it may have looked like from the view points of all who were on that ship 8 4 years ago and make it come to life on screen is a great

accomplishment. Director James Cameron should be proud of his creations, and so should everyone who was involved in this picture. It is clearly one of the millenniums best Blockbuster Films and I totally recommend it for everyone
