Disclaimer: Look, lets get something straight here. If I was blonde and was a single writer, Id be owning this but alas, Im not blonde, Im not a single mother and heck, I dont make money out of this so if you think youd want to sue me (Yes, J.K., Im talking to you) think again. Who would sue a 14 year old? *coughs* Not J.K *coughs* And ummthis song is Hands Down by Dashboard Confessionals.
Half of Chapter Fifteen: In Placing Hands Down
Ginny couldnt sleep that well last night. Somehow, even though she knew what she was doing was right, she still didnt feel right.
Look, if he really likes you, he wont give you up that easily.
Colins words last night were echoing in her head as she walked outside of the Great Hall, towards her first subject, Potions. Everyone had given her the same nasty looks she had been getting since yesterday when she first entered the vast room to eat breakfast. No one really knew about what happened yesterday afternoon in the snow, but Ginny was pretty sure that its pop out sooner or later. Since Ginny was positive that Malfoy wouldnt do something to actually have her back, she prepared herself for a whole lifetime of being ignored or else, being insulted by her worst enemy. Malfoy had started out as her worst enemy anyways, might as well accept the fact that he cant be anything else.
Ginny, wait up! Colins voice bounced in the walls as he ran towards her breathlessly. Whats with your dramatic exit? You cant keep on running away from those people! You have to defend your side!
Yes, I would defend my side, if only I didnt agree with them in the first place, Ginny argued as she returned to her fast pace towards the dungeons.
When it was only Ron who disagreed with you and Malfoy, that didnt stop you from helping the Slytherin team out with their match against Ravenclaw, said Colin as he tried hard to keep up with her, but when the numbers increase you suddenly turned your principle upside down.
I wasnt feeling anything for Malfoy when I helped him out in the matchI merely did that for a good cause.
Good cause for whom? Earth to Ginny! Youre in Gryffindor! Helping out your houses enemy doesnt really qualify for a good cause.
Good cause because its right! Im just trying to do the right thing!
And you think turning your back to all the things that you thought were right is actually one of those good causes youre talking about?
Tell me one thing that I thought was right that I have done in this past week, Ginny challenged, suddenly stopping as she confronted Colin bravely.
If you didnt think following your instincts was right then you would never have kissed Malfoy, Colin answered as he placed his hands on his hips. Admit it, Ginny, you kissed Malfoy because you felt that it was right.
Well obviously, that was a mistake.
Being right is not when you follow those rules that people have been following for years! Who says that theyre right anyway? If someone thinks that killing people who have a deadly disease is right, would you do the same too?
People know its right because they dont only think about themselves, they also think for whats best for the group.
Just then, a particularly scrawny looking house-elf appeared between the little space Ginny and Colin were making. It had on its hands a card that says: For you.
A card, kind sirs! the house-elf announced, waving the tiny paper under their noses.
You must have the wrong person, said Ginny, brushing the tiny creature off.
No sirs, Penny cant be wrong on this, sirs! Master asked specifically for a red-head, sirs, that have six freckles on each cheek, sirs! It you, sirsits you!
Wow, six said Colin thoughtfully as he stared at Ginnys face as if trying to prove if the count was right.
Knock it off, Colinlook, youre most probably mistakenbut if its a hate card, thats probably mine, since the whole schools beginning to think Im a whoreoh, wait, they already think thathey, wait a minute, what are you doing?
The elf was opening the card in a very mischievous manner that made Ginny nervous. As soon as the card was opened, the elf disappeared behind a small puff of smoke.
Soft guitar melody began to fill in the hallway.
A/N: Before reading this part, for a full clichd and cheesy feeling, download Hands Down by Dashboard Confessionals and Im telling you, it is very worth it.
Breathe in for luck,
Breathe in so deep
A familiar voice began to sing as Ginny stared wide-eyed, frozen (with Colin), at the card, as slowly, students who also had Potions that morning started to wonder what was going on as they heard the soft singing.
This air is blessed, you share with me.
This night is wild, so calm and dull,
These hearts they race
From self-control
Whats going on?
Whos singing?
Whys Virginia and that guy gaping over that card?
Is the card singing?
People started whispering to one another, as slowly, a small crowd began to circle around Colin and Ginny.
Your legs are smooth,
As they graze mine
Colin raised his eyebrows at Ginny dubiously.
I did not graze his leg, Ginny confirmed, her voice shakingalthough a part of her brain brought her back memories of her and Malfoy walking so closeso close together that she could feel his legs underneath his robes.
Were doing fine
Were doing nothing at all
The way they just walked, even without talking, even without any kind of contact being made, just plain walkingmade Ginnys heart at the depths of her chamber smile.
My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me,
So wont you kill me?
So Id die happy
Ginny remembered the way she had waited for hours for him to kiss her. Of course, there were a few times that she saw his eyes glaze and his hard face soften, every time she gives a small smile. Who could have ever known theyd end up falling for each other? They were so different
My heart is yours to fill or burst,
Or break or bury or wear as jewellery,
Which ever you prefer
Oh, you definitely broke it, Colin whispered softly.
And buried it too, Ginny agreed regretfully.
The words are hushed lets not get busted
Just lay entwined here, undiscovered
I cant believe Im doing this, Ginny mumbled breathlessly as Draco helped her up to the last rock, and practically carried her beside him.
I so cant believe
Look, he whispered as he went behind her and wrapped his hands on her cheeks, directing her face to look towards the west, towards the setting sun
Entwined? Colin broke into her thoughts.
He was hugging me, Ginny said wistfully.
Safe from the earth and all those stupid questions
Hey did you get some? Man, that is so dumb.
Stay quiet,
Stay near,
Stay close they can't hear
So we can get some
I was going to ask that question, said Colin, but I thought twice about it.
Ron didwithout even thinking.
So did you get some?
I got lots.
Hands down, this is the best day I can ever remember,
I'll always remember the sound of the stereo,
the dim of the soft lights,
and the scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers
And the time on the clock
When we realized it's so late
And the walk that we shared together.
The street was wet and the gate was locked
so I jumped it and I let you in
Oh my god, its Malfoy!
Ginny turned around as soon as a fellow Gryffindor shouted his name out loud. Sure enough, he was there, standing right behind her, wearing a look on his face no one had ever seen him wear before.
Malfoy Ginny began, almost to tears.
Hush, he said, putting a finger in his heart-shaped lips, just listen to the song.
And you stood at the door,
With your hands in my waist,
And you kissed me
Like you meant it
MalfoyI Ginny stuttered, not minding the suddenly quiet hallway as she walked towards him.
And I knew that you meant it
I didnt fancy serenading you in front of people, said Malfoy, as he watched Ginny slowly tread her way closer to him, so I told Crabbe and Goyle to get me any house-elf and I placed my voice in that card
That you meant it
seeming to me that once I do something as embarrassing as singing a song I made for you in front of everyone, youd finally have some sense in your puny brain to see that what other people think is something I personally dont give a damn about.
That you meant it
You cant possibly dump me now, after I humiliated myself in front of everyone here. Youre supposed to fall head over heels for me.
And I knew that you meant it
Do you love Pansy? Ginny finally asked the question that was bothering her for a long time.
And as the song ended and silence filled the hallway once more, Malfoy answered, You ask me if I love Pansy. Ask me a question I can answer
That you meant it.
ask me if I love you.
A/N: Nasty cliff-hanger, no? The Ravenclaw match is after that serenading thing, so I guessnext chapter is Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin, wherein we see that history definitely repeats itself *wink, wink*
