Since Neolithic matristic times, the role of Oriental or Belly Dance has been that of a folk dance to honor and celebrate the sacred life giving abilities of women. This oldest of dance forms would be performed at joyous occasions such as weddings, the birth of a child, community festivals, and other events that bring people together to party.
