Mission Statement

The entire Vinci Park community is dedicated to maintaining a safe and positive learning environment that promotes and supports academic excellence and social responsibility for all students.

Many visitors to Vinci Park have commented on how friendly, welcoming and helpful the entire staff is. New staff members comment on how they have felt very supported and included. We think of it as our Vinci Park Family.

Vinci Park shares the District’s vision of fully implementing a thinking, meaning-centered curriculum. Students are actively engaged in the learning process. Science experiments, math manipulatives, social studies and history projects, art projects, and hands-on lessons make learning meaningful at Vinci Park.

Success for all learners is the focus at Vinci Park School. The challenge of successfully educating a culturally diverse student population is enthusiastically accepted by the entire staff.

Vinci Park Students Care
Caring about others is encouraged and reinforced at Vinci Park School through our staff modeling care and concern and giving Care Notes to students. The school was awarded a silver plaque for donating 6,966 pounds of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank during 1998-99 school year.

A continuing program at Vinci Park is the Big Buddy program. Fourth and fifth grades each "adopt" a kindergarten or first grade classroom by helping them with schoolwork and various activities. Vinci Park also has a great many cross-age tutors. Our Student Council members are in charge of spirit days, promoting school spirit, and purchasing items for the school, such as park benches for the playground and an aluminum can crusher to help with recycling.

Success for All Learners
Vinci Park has an active Student Study Team that meets weekly to assist students, parents, and teachers in achieving academic success for all students. One day each week, our school psychologist assesses students, meets with teachers and parents, presents workshops to staff and community, or conducts student group sessions dealing with anger and social skills. Vinci Park has a sizeable support staff who, on a daily basis, helps students to be successful.

Title I Program
Title I is a federally funded program that gives extra assistance to children who have tested below the 25th percentile in reading and/or math on a standardized test. Depending on individual needs, qualifying students may receive additional classroom assistance from a Title I Instructional Associate, Programmed Thtorial Reading services, or homework support in our after school Homework and Reading Depot. The focus of our Title I program is to build students’ academic proficiency in reading and math so that they will eventually score above the 25th percentile on standardized tests.

Community Involvement and Communications
Our School Site Council consists of parents and staff members who work cooperatively throughout the school year to oversee the implementation of the School Improvement Program and school budgets.

Vinci’s Parent Teacher Association sponsors school-wide fundraisers including the Jog-A-Thon and Spell-A-Thon.

Teachers send notes home on a regular basis, hold parent conferences twice a year, and telephone parents when necessary.

A school newsletter goes home on a monthly basis, with portions written in Vietnamese, Chinese, and Spanish.

Parents, Students, and Community Speaks

"It is a great comfort to my wife and I to know our children are going to a school whose instructors genuinely care about our children’s continual education, safrty, and overall well-being. The staff at Vinci Park is friendly and very approachable to the parents."

Jorge O. Licea, parent and PTA President

"Renee and I brought our family to the Berryessa School district almost four years ago. I began volunteering when our two oldest boys started kindergarten in Milpitas. When our two youngest boys started at Vinci Park I continued to volunteer. One year, Vinci had all four of our boys. It helps when a child knows that you care about his or her education. It helps even more when you get involved and show it. Today I work as a Yard Duty Supervisor. I love working with the staff at Vinci Park. I also love being there for all of our children. With a great administrative staff and super caring educators, Vinci Park is a great place to begin an educational foundation."

     Brince Upson, parent

"I like Vinci Park because teachers care about how much students learn."

     Kortney Chism, 5th grade student

"I like this school because it’s fun, with lots of activities and there are nice teachers."

     Stacey Pelayo, 5th grade student
