Our mission is based on assembling a strong foundation for "Building a Better Community — One Student at a Time." To that end, we strive to continue to produce improved scholastic test scores. We are developing community partnerships and alliances which will continually expose students to positive reinforcement programs that enrich and support the values attained through family, school, and community intervention. The accomplishments of our school are many. As a school, we intend to communicate more of these accomplishments more often. Through our improved efforts, members and future members of our community will learn about positive achievements, quality of education, and quality of life that exist within the community. As you continue to read and learn more about the opportunities at Majestic Way Elementary School, we ask that you join us in a community-school partnership. Program Highlights
The effectiveness of a school and the quality of classroom instruction relies on how well the school and community work together. The successes the students and staff at Majestic Way have achieved are a direct result of this cooperation and support from our school community. The Parent Teacher Association funds study trips and assemblies, purchases supplementary instructional supplies and helps teachers in the classroom. The School Site Council works closely with school staff in developing school programs, budget development and as a forum for community discussion and decision-making. All students at Majestic Way participate in a broad-based curriculum that integrates language arts with other curriculum areas. Grade level expectations of all students are based on state curriculum frameworks and district standards. Teachers have participated in training to provide students with strong programs in math, history/social science, language arts and technology. Student writing skills are highlighted in a variety of ways, including school-wide participation in the Young Authors’ Fair. Student artwork is displayed in the school’s Young Artists’ Gallery and current student activities are displayed in photo or written form on a kiosk in the media center. Our Readers’ Hall of Fame program and the Fifty Book Club symbolize the importance the staff places on reading. Our Title I program provides a reading and math program in an extended day format. These programs help bring the student’s reading and math abilities to grade level. Technology is becoming increasingly important in classroom instruction. Teachers are able to access software and resources from the media center and students have access to cable television and the Internet. Majestic Way students can communicate and interact with students at nearby schools in distant learning instruction. A school-wide emphasis on reading provides each student with a balance of basic reading skills and a whole language literature-based program. All classes provide strong grade level programs. Team teaching at all grade levels provides students with the combined talents of the instructional staff. Programs for students with special needs are highly regarded in the community and throughout the district. We have a support staff providing special assistance in all academic areas. Majestic Way takes pride in its counseling program. A counselor and a school psychologist are available to work and provide support for individual students and their families. Students also receive additional support through programs such as English as a Second Language (ESL), Title I, and through the Gifted and Talented Education program. A partnership with the County Office of Education provides assistance for the orthopedically impaired students of our community. Several members of the Majestic Way staff help meet the student’s needs with after school clubs in drama and a school-wide recycling program. A homework club sponsored by the City of San Jose and Majestic Way School supports third through fifth grade students by providing study skills for many students. The Class Size Reduction program has been implemented in Kindergarten through grade 3. Students are benefiting from a positive learning environment with results showing improvement in student performance.
