ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

The African-American Parent Coalition is a non-profit organization registered within the State of California. We are a group of parents who believe that the education of our children is too important to be left solely in the hands of the educators. We have seen our children benefit from our active involvement in the educational process. It is said that we now live in the "information age". As a group we not only keep informed on the issues and the opportunities, but we proactively create new opportunities to enhance our children's educational experience.

WHAT WE DO

We provide a forum for discussion of issues related to your child's education. We are a unified voice in communicating your concerns with the educational system. We are currently setting up an after-school program to improve reading and math test scores for our youth. We have guest speakers from organizations such as the SCCABE, Carver Scholar Program, PC-MEP, Jose Valdez, Mesa and Ujima to inform us of the opportunities they provide for our youth. Some of our children have received free lap top computers from their involvement in the Carver Scholar Program. Why should your son or daughter be left out? The academic bar is rising. Did you know 3.0 GPA is average? Students can now obtain a 4.5 GPA! Have you heard of Honors programs? Magnet programs?

WHY WE DO IT

There are a number of indicators of poor performance in school. Most parents would recognize grades are an important one, but what about those SAT 9 scores? What is PAT? Come to our meetings and find answers to these and other questions. Find out about special programs that may enrich your child's educational experience. Join us in helping shape your child's future. Summer internships, after school programs, math programs, reading clubs, gifted programs. Information is the Key to the successful future of our children!
