WILLOW
SPRINGS - MARCH 2000
|
| Willow
Springs is known for its two race tracks. This day, The SoCal
MR2 club rented out the "big" track, a 2.5 mile circuit
known for being the fastest track on the west coast. Fastest,
in being that speeds that the cars can reach on this track. My
little civic was hitting just over 120mph on the front straight.
I was going around 80+ through turn two, and entering turn 8 at
well over 100mph. The track is intimidating at first because of
the speeds, but after I got used to it, I was doing pretty well,
and able to hang with most of the cars in my run group. All the
other cars were shod with R compound tires, while I am still on
the pirelli p700 street tires. Some of the other cars included
some turbo MR2s, 300zx twin turbo, 2nd and 3rd gen RX-7 turbos,
a Porsche 911 turbo, a couple of fast fox body mustangs (one was
a built SVO turbo model), BMW M3, and a quick sentra SE-R. |
