Just found this as part of the latest AdvocatesRoundtable digest in my inbox.. Easiest to just post the original (with a few tiny adjustments)..
I'll tie in some links later, but I REALLY need to see a man about a couple of new front tires first.. If all goes well with the tires, I smell my bouncing baby first Review in the air.. ;)
Mayor Shirley Franklin Cordially Invites You To Attend "Hard Lessons from Real Women: Dealing with Disability in Atlanta"

- Kate Gainer, author, speaker and disability rights activist
- Minna Hong, Dir. of Peer Support, Shepherd Center
- Angela Smith, advocate and adoptive parent of 7 year old with FAS
- Mary Yoder, CAE, Exec. Dir., Atlanta Alliance on Developmental Disabilities

WHAT: Women with disabilities are faced with social stigma and physical barriers to access the workplace, a place to live and cultural opportunities. Caretakers, overwhelmingly women who are responsible for children and adults with developmental, physical and cognitive disabilities, face insensitive bureaucracies with shrinking resources. How does Fetal Alcohol Syndrome affect the individuals directly impacted by it as well as the rest of the community? Why do a huge number of marriages fail when a child is born with autism? Why do an estimated 90% of women who are disabled become victims of violence and sexual abuse?
REFRESHMENTS: A light breakfast will be served.
PARKING: Parking is available at Underground Atlanta and surface lots downtown
RSVP: Please RSVP by Monday, August 21, 2006, to [email protected] or 404.330.6856

NOTES: Special thanks to Northside Hospital, The Atlanta Women´s Foundation and the League of Women Voters Atlanta/Fulton.
Playing right now: Some People Change, Kenny Chesney.. HOW wonderfully cool a coinky dink is that, especially since I'd never heard it before.. :)
Against all odds
Against the grain
Love finds a way
Some people change.Thank God for those who make it
Let them be the light.
See you all at "Lessons"..? :)
