Juventus revive interest for Villarreal's Rodriguez

Tribal Football

Juventus are reviving their interest for Villarreal defender Gonzalo Rodriguez. The Argentine youngster was set to join Juve last January before negotiations broke down. He eventually signed with Villarreal in the summer, but Juve chief Luciano Moggi has continued to keep tabs on his progress.

Rodriguez's first season in Europe has been outstanding and Moggi is considering the youngster as a replacement for French veteran Lilian Thuram.

Agent reveals Premiership interest for Juve defender Iuliano

Tribal Football

The agent of Juventus defender Mark Iuliano has confirmed the interest of an unnamed Premiership club.

Although the 31-year-old's British agent Sam Stapleton has dismissed reports that West Brom and Charlton are ready to swoop, and is also unaware of rumoured interest from Scottish giants Celtic, he has confirmed that a southern-based English top-flight team have made a concrete enquiry.

Stapleton said: "We have had genuine interest from a team in the Premiership but it would be wrong for me to disclose the identity of the club as it is early days yet. There has been paper talk of more clubs being interested but as yet only one has contacted me.

"This is the first I've heard of the Celtic link and as far as I'm aware they haven't made an official approach yet. I am working closely with my colleagues in Italy to find Mark a suitor. He already has offers from Russia and France and I will put forward anything from the Premiership.

"He is still a quality defender and as January gets closer, I'm sure things will start to happen."

Jankulovski ready for Milan

Football Italia

Marek Jankulovski has admitted that he could leave Udinese for Milan at the end of the season. Reports earlier this week suggested that the Rossoneri would net the player and he's keen on a San Siro switch.

"I want to help Udinese qualify for the Champions' League right now but I'm ready for a big club next year," he told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper. "I am 28 and mature enough to take the next step up in level. I'm ready to play for a club like Milan."

The Czech ace has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus in the past but he doesn't believe a Turin switch is on the horizon.

"I've always said that I would like to play with my great friend Pavel Nedved but I don't think that dream will come true," added the former Napoli player. "Juventus are well covered down the left with Gianluca Zambrotta and Nedved in the side."

Jankulovksi is highly rated in the Italian game because of his versatility. But what is his best position? "I think I play better as a wide midfielder but I'm happy at left-back too," he explained. "I have no problems with either role."

Udinese have today ruled out any January sales but it does seem that Jankulovski will definitely leave in the summer.

Chivu wanted by Real

Football Italia

Roma ace Cristian Chivu is wanted by Real Madrid, while the Spanish giants could sell Roberto Carlos to Inter.

Reports in Italy on Thursday claim that the Romanian is high on the wish list of new Real technical director Arrigo Sacchi. The former Italy boss is keen to tighten things up defensively in Madrid and Chivu is a top priority.

The proposed swoop could be problematic though as the player is contracted to the Giallorossi until 2008. Juventus and Milan are also likely to show an interest in the stopper if he becomes available for transfer.

Real may perhaps be in need of a new defender with speculation suggesting that Roberto Carlos is set to be sold. The Brazilian's relationship with Real is allegedly deteriorating and a January exit may even be on the cards.

Some whispers claim that Inter could bring him back to the club after he spent one season with the Nerazzurri in the mid 1990s. The San Siro giants do have problems in the left-back role with Giuseppe Favalli, Giovanni Pasquale and Francesco Coco all failing to inspire.

The South American is a favourite of owner Massimo Moratti and boss Roberto Mancini is unlikely to block any move.

Ferrari hurt by criticism

Football Italia

Roma stopper Matteo Ferrari has admitted that he found it tough to deal with the criticism he's received this season. The Italian international joined the capital club from Parma in the summer but he's taken his time to settle.

His form wasn't particularly impressive at the start of term and some sections of the home support were quick to point that out.

"I didn't expect so much criticism," said the central defender. "Things happened which didn't allow me to play as I would have wanted. However, things are going better for the team and also me now. My honour was hurt but I've responded."

Ferrari, who nearly joined Juventus last January, was signed by the Olimpico outfit after Walter Samuel joined Real Madrid. The 24-year-old, a member of Italy's Euro 2004 campaign, is now hoping to get back to his best in order to impress new Azzurri boss Marcello Lippi.

I'm A Juventus Fan-Zeman

Goal.com

Lecce coach Zdeneck Zeman shockingly revealed he is a fan of Juventus, in an interview held with Italian television station RAI 2.

"I have been a Juventus fan for the past 30 years. My uncle Vicpalek was Juve's coach, and he appreciated the Juventus style a lot," said Zeman.

What makes this declaration so unexpected is that a late 1990's interview by Zeman in which he pointed out the abnormal change in both Vialli and Del Piero's physical structure was the catalyst for the Juventus doping trial.

Hence the idea that Zeman was an anti-Juventino at heart. However the former Lazio and Roma boss pointed out, "My attack was at the whole system, not at Juventus in particular."

New deal for Camoranesi

Football Italia

Mauro Camoranesi is about to commit his future to Juventus until the summer of 2010. The winger has been recently linked with a move to River Plate but his agent insists he will remain in Turin.

"I've heard the River rumours but it is crazy to think that Camoranesi is on his way to Argentina," stated Sergio Fortunato. "It simply makes no sense. Mauro is under contract until 2007 and he is about to extend that to 2010.

"Another reason why Mauro won't be going to River Plate is that they wouldn't be able to match his current salary in Italy. My client is a River supporter and perhaps he would like to end his career there but that won't happen now."

Camoranesi was born in Argentina but plays his international football for Italy since joining Juve from Verona. The midfielder is now in his third season at the Delle Alpi and has been in inspirational form over the last six weeks.

Trez eyes swift return

Sky Sports

Juventus general director Luciano Moggi has confirmed that striker David Trezeguet could well return to first team action sooner than expected. The French star underwent surgery recently to solve a shoulder problem first felt in October.

Moggi confirms that he could be back in action on January 12th for the Coppa Italia fixture against Atalanta. "It often happens in football that recoveries after surgery are swifter than expected," Moggi explained.

When asked about possible Juve acquisitions in the transfer window, Moggi added: "We will not be signing any new players, but I will not exclude the possibility of selling someone. We will try to reduce the size of the squad."

Meanwhile, Croatian star Igor Tudor has caught the eye of Belgian club Standard Liege. Tudor, whose chances have been limited this season under Fabio Capello, may prove too expensive though for the Belgians who could baulk at his wage demands.

Juve turn attention to Miguel, Chivu

Yahoo! Italia Sport

After rumors of a Milan agreement for Udinese's Marek Jankulovski, Juventus have now turned their attention to Benfica's Portuguese international Luis Garcìa Brito Monteiro, better known as Miguel.

The skillful fullback of Benfica is one of the important players for Giovanni Trapattoni's squad. Hence the 25-year-old's asking price is expected to be more expensive than Jankulovski, at an estimated €12 million.

Luciano Moggi, on council of Fabio Capello, will meet the Lusitanian leaders next January to understand the real possibilities to carry the negotiation ahead.

Roma's Cristian Chivu could be the third Giallorossi player to join Capello. The bianconeri technician is interested in bolstering his central defence with the Romanian international and has place his name at the top of the list. However they are concerned about his injuries this season and would only make a move after thorough physical examination.

Juve monitor Villarreal ace

Sky Sports

Juventus are reported to have rekindled their interest in Villarreal defender Gonzalo Rodriguez. The Turin giants were interested in signing the Argentine centre back before he moved to The Yellow Submarines last summer from San Lorenzo.

The 20-year-old ultimately opted for a move to Spain, but Juve have maintained a watching brief on his progress.

Rodriguez's impressive performances this campaign have only served to enhance his reputation as he has cemented a first-team berth at Villarreal, establishing himself as one of the key performers in Manuel Pelegrini's side.

The powerful stopper has only missed one league game this term - through suspension - and Juve scouts are understood to have visited El Madrigal on more then one occasion to watch him. Gonzalez, along with Bayern Munich's Lucio, is thought to be Juve's top target to strengthen the centre of their defence.

Juventus scout French-based youngsters

Tribal Football

Juventus are keeping tabs on three of the French league's brightest young talents. Lyon teenager Hatem Ben Arfa, 17, has caught Juve's attention this season. Arfa is already being likened to former Juve star Zinedine Zidane in France.

AS Monaco pair Maicon and Emmanuel Adebayor are also being tracked by Juve director general Luciano Moggi. Brazilian wing-back Maicon and 21 year-old striker Adebayor have caught the eye in the Champions League this season and like Arfa will be considered for the summer market by Juve.

Juve on the defensive

Football Italia

The month of January could see Nicola Legrottaglie, Igor Tudor and Mark Iuliano all leave Juventus. The Italian giants are expected to reduce their squad and a number of defenders will be shown the door.

Juve currently have seven central defenders on their books – too many when you consider that Fabio Cannavaro and Lilian Thuram virtually start every game.

Legrottaglie's future could be in the capital with Roma a possible destination for the stopper. Giallorossi boss Gigi Del Neri is a big fan of the Italian after their time together at Chievo Verona. The Bianconeri could offer the player in return for an option on Roma defender Cristian Chivu.

Croatian international Tudor is a known target for Standard Liege but he doesn't seem keen on a move to Belgium. Recent whispers now suggest that Fiorentina could be interested in the versatile individual.

One player with a host of options seems to be Iuliano. The former Azzurri player has been associated with Celtic but would prefer to stay in Italy. That could open the door for Bologna, Sampdoria and Siena to make a New Year approach for the former Salernitana ace.

Lippi makes Azzurri wish

Football Italia

Marcello Lippi expresses his wishes for 2005 that include a Serie A free from foreigners and a new successful era for Azzurri.

"I would love to see an all-Italian Serie A next year, even though I am fully aware it's an impossible dream," said the Coach. "It would be nice and we should safeguard our sporting future with the development of the youth systems, but you can't stop globalisation."

There are already some clubs that are living up to Lippi's ideal scenario with an unusual number of sides packed together in mid-table this season.

"All you have to do is look at the standings. Behind Juventus and Milan we have Palermo, Cagliari, Udinese, Sampdoria, Messina and Lecce. These are teams that play good football, are organised and have a lot of Italian players. Our sport is hitting new heights."

The trend is now seeing more foreign players flocking to the Peninsula and Italian tacticians slowly making their way in Europe.

"I think everyone recognises that Italian Coaches are more experienced and prepared that any other in the world," said the ex-Juve boss. "Real Madrid saw that Barcelona are planning a new winning era, so they brought in Arrigo Sacchi to give them structure and organisation. I think he'll do very well in Spain."

Lippi revealed he had received offers from overseas when he chose to finish his spell with Juventus, but the call of the Italy post was too strong.

"2004 has brought me a few surprises, such as the desire all the Azzurri players have to get back on track. I found a shared enthusiasm that was simply contagious. We may be top of our 2006 World Cup qualifying group now, but there is a long road ahead of us."

Lippi has his work cut out for him, as after two disastrous experiences at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004 people have lost faith in these players.

"I don't think our football is over-rated," he insisted. "Neither should we under-estimate the potential that is there. We remain an important element of World football that is competitive and deserves to be in the top four. What we need now is victories to convince fans of that."

Caracciolo has Prem option

Football Italia

The agent of Andrea Caracciolo claims that his client could soon make a move to the Premiership.

"Moving abroad would be a fascinating experience," stated Tiziano Gonzaga. "Liverpool and Arsenal are concrete possibilities, even if I would rule out a Shakthar Donetsk deal."

The Brescia striker is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Italy right and he's been linked with numerous clubs.

"Brescia intend to keep him with them until the summer but that could change if they find a valid replacement," added Gonzaga. "Milan or Juventus? Both clubs would be good destinations and the threat of sitting on the bench is not a concern.

"After all, you can't be guaranteed a starting shirt at certain clubs when you are still just the age of 22."

Gonzaga also commented on speculation that both Parma and Roma are keen on the former Perugia player too.

"Parma remain an important club but their future is very uncertain at this point in time," he explained. "As for Roma, I'm disappointed that they don't seem to be too interested in Caracciolo anymore. An eventual move to the Giallorossi would be a transfer welcomed by my client."

Capello Tips Sacchi To Succeed At Madrid

Goal.com

Fabio Capello believes that Arrigo Sacchi will prove to be a great appointment for Real Madrid, after the former Italy coach was appointed as Director of Football at the Bernabéu. Saachi was unveiled as his new post on Tuesday as the Spanish giants look to bring more stability within the club.

The Juventus boss took over at Milan after Saachi had left to train the national team and has been admirer of his ever since.

"I believe that Real Madrid have made a good acquisition," Capello stated. "Sacchi is a man of great experience on the pitch. Sacchi will do things well in Madrid, but we hope it's after our game with them."

Saachi will work under the guidance of Madrid's Director of Sport, Emilio Butragueño.

Juve plan January sale

Football Italia

Juventus will use the January transfer window to sell rather than buy insists Luciano Moggi.

"We won't be signing anyone after Christmas," stated the director general. "We're more interested in reducing the size of the squad if possible."

Although the official didn't mention any names, it is believed that the likes of Mark Iuliano, Nicola Legrottaglie and even Alessio Tacchinardi could be shown the door. Juventus may not bring in any new faces, but many at the club will consider David Trezeguet as a fresh signing once he returns from injury.

"The French striker is doing well and we should see him back in action on January 12 in the Italian Cup against Atalanta," Moggi explained. "Will that see Alex Del Piero dropped to the bench? The Coach will choose whichever players are in the best shape."

The Turin giants go into the winter break with a four point lead over Milan – an advantage which some have labelled as lucky given their recent form.

"We do need this break as we are a little tired," noted the transfer guru. "But if we have this gap over Milan then it is because we have done well up to now."

Del Piero: We Need To Recharge Our Batteries

Goal.com

In recent weeks, what seemed like a perfect machine has luckily, for Serie A, shown signs of fatigue which led to under-par performances by Juventus.

This has been highlighted by the Bianconeri's captain, Alessandro Del Piero, who expressed his satisfaction at not losing against Milan, despite his team's current problems.

"The 0-0 against Milan can be considered satisfying as it leaves the balance of the standings intact. Unfortunately my conditions, and a slight bit of fever, did not allow me to finish the game. Luckily now we have a well deserved break of a week, just in time to help us recharge our batteries."

Serie A football returns on the 6th of January when Juventus will travel to the Emilia to face troubled Parma.

Mauro set for new Juve deal

Sky Sports

Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi is discussing a new contract with the Serie A table-toppers, after his agent dismissed rumours of a switch to River Plate.

Reports in the native Argentinian's homeland had suggested that River are plotting a raid on Juve for Camoranesi. But, rather than contemplate leaving Stadio Delle Alpi, Camoranesi is in talks to prolong his association with the Turin giants.

Camoranesi is in his third season with Juve and is presently tied to the club until 2007, having established himself as a key member of the team since joining from Verona.

The Italy international's representative Sergio Fortunato admits talk of a return to Argentina with River Plate is fanciful, particularly from a financial point of view.

"I heard what was said on Argentine radio and it's crazy to think that Camoranesi could be transferred to Argentina," said Fortunato. "It doesn't make any sense to think that Mauro could leave Juventus to play in Argentina. He is under contract until 2007 and he is about to extend his contract until 2010.

"One of the most important reasons for saying that Mauro will not be transferred to River Plate is that he earns too much money in Italy and I don't think that River would be able to pay him the same. Maybe, as Mauro is a River Plate supporter, he would like to end his career there but that isn't going to happen now."

Standard Liege close to deal for Juventus defender Tudor

Tribal Football

Standard Liege are in advanced talks with Juventus for defender Igor Tudor. The Croatia international is seeking a move away for more first team opportunities and has also been linked with Newcastle and Tottenham.

Standard are confident they will the race for Tudor's signature, though are requesting Juve contribute a significant percentage of the defender's wages.

Celtic eye Iuliano

Sky Sports

Mark Iuliano looks to be on the way out of Juventus, with Celtic believed to be among the player's suitors. The veteran defender has become something of a fringe player for Juve this season, and it appears that a move may be necessary to rekindle his career.

Celtic are one of a number of British clubs that have been linked in the past, but the Scottish giants will face major competition from Italian sides. Siena, Genoa and Reggina are all interested in the powerful defender, and it remains to be seen if Iuliano would prefer to remain in his native Italy.

The defender is out of contract next summer, which means that the price for the Italy international will not be exorbitant. The Bhoys are believed to be ready to make a firm bid to Juventus in the coming weeks.

Jankulovski set for Milan

Football Italia

Milan have allegedly beaten Juventus in the race to sign Marek Jankulovksi from Udinese. Reports in the peninsula on Tuesday suggest that a deal has already been agreed between the two clubs.

The champions will sign the player in January, for around £6.5m, but allow him to remain with the Bianconeri until the summer. That agreement suits the Friuli outfit who would like to keep the Czech ace in a bid to qualify for the Champions' League.

Milan have decided to target Jankulovski, who was also linked with Inter, given that Serginho is likely to leave at the end of the season.

Should Jankulovski join Milan then that could in turn be bad news for newly promoted Fiorentina. That is because Juventus would then be expected to recall the highly-rated Giorgio Chiellini.

The left-back, who was recently handed a full international cap, is currently on loan with the Viola from the Turin giants. The Tuscan club were keen to keep him for at least another season but that may now not occur.

Top clubs monitor Caracciolo

Football Italia

Andrea Caracciolo is a wanted man but his agent believes he will remain with Brescia for now.

"My client is being followed by a number of top clubs at this moment in time," stated Tiziano Gonzaga. "He is a complete player with an excellent physique, a burst of speed and some great feet. However, I don't believe that we will see too many moves in January. I expect a few swap deals."

Caracciolo is one of Italy's most promising forwards and was recently handed his first Azzurri cap. The former Under-21 international is regularly finding the net this season and has been linked with both Juventus and Milan.

Bojinov happy with 2004

Football Italia

Lecce sensation Valeri Bojinov is delighted with his progress in the game over the last 12 months.

"I've had an excellent 2004," said the 18-year-old. "I appeared at the European Championships for Bulgaria and scored 12 League goals, some of which were of vital importance.

"It was just a shame that we ended the year with defeat to Sampdoria on Sunday. But I'm hopeful that we can get back on the right track in 2005."

Bojinov has always been rated highly in the Italian game and he's exploded onto the scene in the current campaign. The striker has scored nine Serie A goals so far this term and has really caught the eye for the Giallorossi.

Although he recently extended his contract at the Via del Mare until 2009, many expect him to join a big club in the summer. Bojinov has admirers in Italy and Europe, which could see Lecce demand a transfer fee of around £10m.

Juventus, Milan, Inter and Roma are keen on him in the peninsula, while Arsenal and Barcelona are tracking him from abroad.

Real Madrid Tracking Bologna's Meghni

Goal.com

The young French player is considered as Zidane's heir and the Spanish giants are very interested in bringing him to Madrid.

Twenty-year old Mourad Meghni has been one of the few impressive players for Bologna so far this season, and his excellent performances have attracted the interest of many major clubs, last of which Real Madrid.

Speculation has been fuelled by the fact that during last Sunday's match between Bologna and Reggina, new technical director of Real Madrid, Arrigo Sacchi, was present at the stadium.

Meghni is also rumoured to be in the wish list of other major Italian clubs, including Juventus and Inter.

Real Madrid want option on Fiorentina's Ujfalusi

Tribal Football

Real Madrid have made an enquiry after Fiorentina defender Tomas Ujfalusi.

The Czech Republic international's availability came up during talks between the clubs over a loan extension for striker Javier Portillo in Florence. Real are happy to allow Portillo to stay in Italy, despite his struggles for first team action, but want first refusal for Ujfalusi in exchange.

Manchester United have also made tentative enquiries after Ujfalusi in recent days and Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle is unlikely to agree to giving either club first option on the talented centre-half.

Ronaldinho smiles as he hold the tropy

Barcelona's Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho was named FIFA World Player of the Year on Monday.

Ronaldinho, 24, totalled 620 points followed by Thierry Henry of Arsenal and France on 552. Newly-crowned European Footballer of the Year Andriy Shevchenko of AC Milan and Ukraine was third on 253.

"For me just to be selected and to be here was already an honour," Ronaldinho told the FIFA gala awards ceremony. "Of course I have to thank my Barcelona colleagues because I could not have won it without them.

"I am very happy at Barcelona, I want to be part of a new winning era at the club and I have no plans to go anywhere else," he added, dismissing suggestions he might be interested in a move to Chelsea.

It was the second successive year that Henry has finished as runner-up in the poll based on the verdict of 157 international coaches and, for the first time this year, 145 national team captains.

Five points were awarded for a first place nomination, three for second and one for third. Ronaldinho gained 89 first place votes, Henry 79 and Shevchenko 34.

Last year's winner Zinedine Zidane, who announced his international retirement from the France team after Euro 2004, came fourth. Last year's European Footballer of the Year Pavel Nedved of the Czech Republic was fifth.

Ronaldinho has transformed Barcelona since arriving from Paris St Germain in 2003 and they lead the Primera Liga by nine points. Unlike his rivals for the award, organised by world soccer's governing body FIFA, Ronaldinho did not win a major club trophy this year.

Ronaldinho did not take part in the Copa America won by Brazil as he was rested along with Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.

He is the fourth Brazilian to capture the award since its introduction in 1991 after Romario (1994), three times winner Ronaldo (1996, 1997 and 2002) and Rivaldo (1999). Remarkably, they all won the award when playing for Barcelona, though after his first success Ronaldo was with Inter Milan in 1997 and Real Madrid in 2002.

Germany's Birgit Prinz won women's player of the year, the Presidents' Award went to Haiti for promoting the match for peace against Brazil and Brazil took the Fair Play award.

Capello dreams of Emerson, Gerrard pairing

Yahoo! Italia Sport

Juventus manager Fabio Capello has a dream for its midfield model: to place Liverpool and England star Steven Gerrard beside Emerson. The problem is the expected high cost of its transfer.

Juve could find the necessary liquidity from the transfer of Trezeguet, for which Barcelona president Joan Laporta would be disposed to quote an offer of €25 mln. Capello would then give its ok to the transfer of the French striker in the case in which Gerrard arrived.

Del Piero happy with mid-winter break

alessandrodelpiero.com

Alessandro Del Piero has commented on the Juventus-Milan match through his official website.

"We are satisfied with the draw against Milan, as it leaves the situation at the top unchanged. Milan almost scored in the first half, but we managed to grow in stature and tried to get past their midfield, but was ultimately unable to create enough chances.

The Italian international also justifies his performance in the match in which he was ineffective and eventually substituted by Marcelo Zalayeta.

"I would not intentionally avoid playing in the most important match, but my physical conditions and a light injury have unfortunately not allowed me to finish the game.

"Fortunately we can now have a week of deserved rest, and just in time to allow us to recharge the batteries and catch our breath: we are definitely feeling the effects from playing the qualifying round of the Champions' League."

Juve watch Sochaux stars

Sky Sports

Juventus had scouts at Sochaux's game against Nantes on Sunday, amidst suggestions that they are checking out the club's young stars. Sochaux were denied a win by a late goal from their hosts, but the news that Italian giants Juve are watching some of their players will come as no surprise.

The performances of Jeremy Menez and Jeremy Mathieu have earned admiring glances from several top clubs this season, and the duo both featured in the weekend's 2-2 draw. However, it was Brazilian star Ilan who made the biggest impact, scoring a brace for Sochaux.

Juventus have been the pace-setters in Italy this season, and lead Serie A by four points after a 0-0 draw against Milan on Saturday. Coach Fabio Capello already has a glittering squad at his disposal, but remains keen to snap up the best young players in the world.

Juventus seek first option on River Plate stars

Tribal Football

Juventus chief Roberto Bettega held talks with River Plate officials on Sunday. The summit was centred on the future of striker Marcelo Salas, who is currently on-loan at the Argentine giants. River want to keep the Chilean and are discussing a new fee for his stay.

Juve are prepared to allow Salas to spend next season on-loan at River for free, instead wanting first option on River's young duo Javier Mascherano and Maxi Lopez.

River Plate eye Juventus wing-back Camoranesi

Tribal Football

River Plate president Jose Maria Aguilar is interested in Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi. While an Italy international, Camoranesi is Argentine-born and intermediaries have made Aguilar aware of his ambition to play for River.

Aguilar is currently in Rome this week and has been speaking with Juve about an extension to the loan of striker Marcelo Salas. Its understood he has also expressed interest in taking Camoranesi when the January market opens.

Barca still chasing Tacchi

Football Italia

Barcelona are still hoping to sign Alessio Tacchinardi from Juventus during the January transfer window. The Spanish giants want the midfielder but the Delle Alpi outfit seem unwilling to release him. But Barca have admitted that they still plan to make a New Year approach for the Italian international.

"We still haven't rejected the idea of signing him," stated President Joan Laporta. "He wants to play regularly and that isn't happening at Juventus. However, boss Frank Rijkaard isn't putting me under any pressure to sign players as he says he's happy with the squad available."

Tacchinardi doesn't presently feature in Fabio Capello's plans and an exit may be on the cards. He is seemingly fourth choice with the Bianconeri behind Emerson, Manuele Blasi and Stephen Appiah. Despite extending his contract with the club last season, the Italian could be close to bringing his 10-year relationship with the Old Lady to an end.

Barcelona are interested in the former Atalanta player given their midfield injury crisis at the Nou Camp. They have also been linked with Olivier Dacourt of Roma but the Spaniards are on good terms with Juventus. That after they made a similar move last January when they signed Edgar Davids from the club.

Standard Liege interested in Tudor

Yahoo! Italia Sport

Belgian club Standard Liege wants Juventus Igor Tudor on-loan. The only obstacle is the perceived high wages of the Croatian. If the bianconeri accept to contribute parts of his wages the transaction could go through.

Maldini praise for Zlatan

Sky Sports

Paolo Maldini admits Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic reminds him of former Milan team-mate Marco van Basten. Current Holland national team coach van Basten established himself as a legend at San Siro before injury prematurely curtailed his brilliant career.

Maldini's formative years in the Milan side were spent playing with van Basten and the veteran defender sees similarities in Ibrahimovic's playing style.

Ibrahimovic has cut an impressive figure in Serie A since he joined Juventus from Ajax on the eve of the August transfer deadline. The Sweden international started in Juve's 0-0 draw with Milan on Saturday and Rossoneri captain Maldini has been impressed by the angular forward.

"Of course it will be hard for anybody to do what van Basten did during his career," Maldini told skysports.com. "Anyway, I don't think it's too soon to make a comparison between him and Ibrahimovic, who has been doing extremely well in his first months in Italy.

"I think Juventus have made a great signing with him and the way he moves with the ball really does remind me of van Basten."

Milan's stalemate at Stadio Delle Alpi prevented the club closing the gap on leaders Juve but the visitors enjoyed the better of the game, and also had a penalty appeal turned down. The incident reopened the debate about whether television evidence should be used in certain situations but Maldini is not an advocate for the introduction of technology.

He added: "I am against it because it would still be the ref to look at the action replay and then take a decision. I am quite sure we would still be having a war of words after every controversial decision."

De Luca denies Taddei exit

Sky Sports

Siena president Paolo De Luca has stated Brazilian playmaker Rodrigo Taddei will not be moving to Serie A giants Juventus in January. A deal, with experienced defender Mark Iuliano arriving in exchange, was mooted as a possible scenario come the New Year.

However, De Luca has denied that Taddei will be heading to Stadio Delle Alpi next month and that out-of-favour Iuliano will join in return. The Tuscany side's supremo is to speak with Siena coach Gigi Simoni and if all goes to plan then Taddei will not depart when the window opens.

"Taddei moving to Juve and Iuliano coming to Siena? It isn't true. If Gigi Simoni agrees, Taddei will stay at Siena until the end of the season," said De Luca.

AC Milan bid for Udinese winger Jankulovski

Tribal Football

AC Milan are ready to offer Udinese £6.5 million for midfielder Marek Jankulovski. The Czech republic international is believed to be happy to join Juventus at the end of the season, but Milan are shaking things up with a concrete offer of their own.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani wants an early agreement, but is prepared to wait until the summer to see Jankulovski move to the San Siro. The midfielder, himself, ruled out a January exit from Udinese as they push for a Champions League place this season.

Chivu opens Milan door

Football Italia

Cristian Chivu's agent has admitted that his client would find it tough to reject a move to Milan. "He wouldn't be able to say no to a club like that," Gica Popescu is quoted as saying on Monday.

Whispers suggest that the Rossoneri are looking at Chivu as a long-term replacement for the legendary Paolo Maldini. The 36-year-old is expected to end his career in the summer of 2006 and the Italian giants are already planning ahead.

Chivu is liked because he has the versatility of the Italian, given that he can play as a centre-back and a left-back. Reports suggest that Franco Baresi, who is currently in charge of the Milan Primavera side, has urged his club to take an interest.

"If a great like Baresi feels that Chivu and Alessandro Nesta would be good together, then I can't disagree," added Popescu. "However, for the moment there are no official negotiations. Cristian is happy in the capital city.

"He considers Roma to be a great club and he doesn't need a move in order to confirm his ability at the highest level."

The Romanian did impress many in his first Serie A campaign following his 2003 switch from Ajax. However, he's hardly played so far this term after having surgery twice on a broken foot injury.

The 24-year-old has also been strongly associated with both Inter and Juventus in the past. The latter could be especially keen as Chivu worked remarkably well under boss Fabio Capello last term.

Benfica challenge Real Madrid for Robinho

Tribal Football

Benfica chiefs are confident they will beat Real Madrid for the signing of Santos wing wizard Robinho.

The Brazilian youngster completed a 'Boy's Own Annual' comeback over the weekend as he helped Santos lift the league championship on his return after a self-imposed exile while waiting for kidnappers to release his mother.

AS says Real have a watertight agreement with Santos and the player which will see him move to Spain next year, either in January or at the end of the season. But Benfica have sent a delegation to Brazil for talks over Robinho, with a meeting scheduled today with Santos officials.

Roma, Juventus, Inter all in for Ajax's Trabelsi

Tribal Football

AS Roma have joined Juventus and Inter Milan in the race for Ajax fullback Hatem Trabelsi. The Tunisia international's new contract expires in 2006 and Ajax have made interested clubs aware they're prepared to sell the right-back at the end of this season.

Trabelsi almost joined Arsenal in August, only for injury concerns to cool manager Arsene Wenger's interest. But the Gunners remain in the hunt as Trabelsi regains his form after previous rows with Ajax management.

But Inter and Juve, along with Roma, are also in the frame with intermediaries making them aware that Trabelsi's preference would be a move to Italy.

Milan's Costacurta likens Ibrahimovic to Van Basten

Tribal Football

AC Milan veteran Alessandro Costacurta has likened Juventus youngster Zlatan Ibrahimovic with Dutch legend Marco van Basten. Costacurta played with Van Basten and enjoyed a fine game in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Swedish international Ibrahimovic.

"Ibrahimovic is among the best in the world," said the defender. "He seems very similar to Van Basten in some movements, but he must still mature and develop."

Barca not giving up on Alessio

Sky Sports

Joan Laporta believes that Barcelona could still sign Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi, but admits the club will not rush into buying anyone in the January transfer window.

The Catalan giants have confirmed that they will bring in a defensive midfielder this winter and the Juve man has been reported to head their list of wanted players. It was rumoured that the Serie A side told Laporta that Tacchinardi is not available, when he met with Juve officials at the Champions League draw on Friday.

"The main reason why we believe that the door has not been shut is that the player has not played very much for them this season," said Laporta. "Besides, Juventus still have the possibility of signing another midfielder in January.

"The deal is still possible, but we do not have hurry to sign anyone. If it was really urgent we would already have done a deal. Rijkaard has not pressed the board to bring someone in and is happy with the squad and with the team."

Fabio Capelli unhappy with Juventus' first-half performance

Milan dominated the Scudetto showdown in Turin, but remain four points adrift as the woodwork kept out Andriy Shevchenko.

Games don't come much bigger than this, as the two-horse Scudetto race comes to a head at the Stadio Delle Alpi. Milan had the chance to cut the gap to just one point going into the Christmas break or find themselves seven points adrift.

The Rossoneri have only won one of their last nine pre-Christmas games, but they were on better form going into the tie thanks to three consecutive wins, including last week's 6-0 drubbing of Fiorentina. Pavel Nedved's late goal scraped a 1-0 victory for Juve at Bologna to keep them four points clear.

Paolo Maldini suffered a slight calf problem during the warm-up and had to give way to 38-year-old Alessandro Costacurta. Losing their captain was a heavy blow, but up until this match Milan had not conceded a single goal this season with Costacurta on the bench.

The Stadio Delle Alpi was sold out and witnessed the meeting of the outgoing European Player of the Year Pavel Nedved and the newly crowned Balon d'Or winner Andriy Shevchenko. Both these Coaches were facing their former clubs and Fabio Capello had only ever beaten Ancelotti twice going into the game.

Milan had the first real scoring opportunity after just three minutes. Shevchenko rolled the ball across the face of goal and Hernan Crespo just failed to get on the end of it from six yards. The ex-Chelsea man complained and replays show Jonathan Zebina did hold him back by his shoulder.

Moments later Zebina nearly scored an own goal as he haphazardly deflected a Clarence Seedorf cross just wide of the woodwork. There were more complaints when Zebina seemed to drag Kakha Kaladze down by his neck as a free kick was floated in, but once again the referee waved play on.

Juventus were also angry with the officials when a Zlatan Ibrahimovic cross was charged down by Costacurta's arm outside the box, but Bertini judged it to be too close for the defender to get out of the way.

Shevchenko bursts out in frustration

Shevchenko went closer than anyone after 17 minutes when his fierce right-foot snapshot from all of 25 metres beat Gianluigi Buffon and slammed the outside of the post.

Milan were beginning to dominate and Shevchenko ran on to Kaka's through ball, but Lilian Thuram dived in for a crucial challenge to prevent Crespo getting an easy tap-in.

The Bianconeri were uncharacteristically a defensive shambles on a corner kick, Buffon's punch ineffective with Kaladze, Crespo and Kaka unable to make the most of it.

Soon after Alessandro Del Piero's effort was charged down, then Buffon could only parry a powerful Crespo strike out for a corner as the pace picked up. A promising counter-attack was started by Pirlo and his cross was too long for Crespo at the back post.

Buffon smothered Seedorf's rising drive from eight yards, then Gianluca Zambrotta ran the entire length of the pitch and put in a cross for Ibrahimovic, but Dida intercepted. Zambrotta got forward again with a snapshot just about held by the Brazilian goalkeeper.

Fabio Cannavaro and Thuram required brilliant tackles to prevent Shevchenko getting into a one-on-one with Buffon, but in first half stoppages the goalkeeper had his palms stung by Crespo at the near post. Capello had to do something and he opted to take off disappointing captain Del Piero for Marcelo Zalayeta.

Milan were still having the better of the play with Juventus giving the ball away surprisingly easily. Shevchenko was halted for a debatable offside flag as he prepared to face Buffon, then the Ukrainian's effort was charged down by Thuram.

Juve were a little less under pressure, but couldn't break through the Milan rearguard and Nedved's header was intercepted by Marcos Cafu. Kaladze was stretchered off with a bruised knee and made way for Giuseppe Pancaro.

The Rossoneri were livid on 66 minutes when Kaka robbed Thuram and was ready to run at the Juve defence with three against two, but the referee stopped play for a Milan free kick instead of letting play continue and the chance went begging. Thuram was booked for that challenge and will miss the trip to his old club Parma.

Alessio Tacchinardi replaced Manuele Blasi and the visitors continued to hold the initiative, even if the Juve defence was better placed in this second half. Nedved had a great chance to give the Bianconeri the victory when he turned and left both defenders for dead, but the ball bounced awkwardly and he fired over the bar.

There was chaos in the Milan area four minutes from time when Nedved and Ibrahimovic failed to make the most of two defensive errors. From the resulting corner kick Cannavaro drilled a powerful half-volley over the bar.

In the final minute Shevchenko skipped past defenders and passed for Andrea Pirlo, but the midfielder's angled drive only shaved the far post with Buffon already beaten.

Capello: "Too many errors"

Juventus.com

"We missed too much, especially during first half: as soon as we had the ball, we gave it away to Milan and doing so we wasted the chance of taking advantage from counter attacks. It wasn't only a few players, it was everybody, just everybody, that made even the easiest passes wrong. Evidently there was a lot of pressure."

Fabio Capello, after the draw with A.C.Milan, analyzes close to astonishment the attitude of Juventus approaching the game. Attitude that left the Bianconeri's manager deeply unsatisfied.

"No, I'm not satisfied for how we played. I am, though, for the result. Even referring to my players, during halftime, I said that still being 0-0, after all those errors, it was to be considered lucky, even though Milan didn't create great dangers to Buffon.

"In the second half things improved slightly, but we didn't play as we used to do."

The Bianconeri's not brilliant performance, according to Capello, can't be blamed on a loss of athletic shape.

"It's not really a physical problem; as I said there was a lot of pressure. A little tiredness is part of the game considering that, because of Champions Leagues preliminary round, we started the season much earlier.

"We have to say, however, that we played a team like Milan, that is currently in top condition; for this reason I'm happy with the result and convinced that the firm trust in our means turned out reinforced after this match!"

Post-Match Comments

Juventus.com

A draw allowing Juventus to maintain unchanged the 4 points advantage over Milan. And now the break, and some deserved rest. This is a synthesis of the concepts expressed by the Bianconeri in the post-match of the challenge versus A.C.Milan.

Zambrotta so comments the 0-0: "We didn't start the right way, then we set back and it was better in the second half. A draw is the right result for us. It's important since we keep the 4 points advantage over Milan and on January 6th at restarting we'll return more focused and relaxed".

Cannavaro, one of the best on the field, noticed the different condition between Juventus and A.C.Milan: "We're both big teams, with talented players. We started strongly at the beginning of the season, they reached shape a bit later. Therefore it is acceptable that we're a little tired now, but the break will help."

Football Italia

Carlo Ancelotti claims Milan proved they are a better side than the Serie A leaders, while Fabio Capello blamed the tension of the occasion.

"I am very satisfied with our performance, commanding the tempo from start to finish," said the Milan boss after their 0-0 draw. "We weren't fortunate tonight, but I am extremely happy with the way we played."

The visitors dominated the tie with an extra seven minutes of possession, but Ancelotti refused to be disappointed with the result.

"Juventus have the best defence in Europe, so we did well to create so many chances and were simply unlucky when it came to the finishing. We proved our superiority against a great side and that is something to be celebrated."

However, the Rossoneri were furious with referee Paolo Bertini after an early penalty shout and a Kaka counter-attack that was halted by excessive fussiness.

"I was angry with the referee in two occasions. He should have let play continue when Kaka was tackled by Lilian Thuram, while that was a penalty on Hernan Crespo after just three minutes. I must say Jonathan Zebina was smart to make that foul," concluded the Coach, "as it would have been a goal for sure."

Juventus were surprisingly inefficient, particularly in the first half, and Fabio Capello is fully aware this was a lucky escape for them.

"We misplaced far too many passes and evidently we felt the tension of the occasion," said Capello. "At one stage I couldn't even shout at individuals for these errors, as everyone was doing it all over the pitch."

The first half was particularly worrying with shots raining down on Gianluigi Buffon's goal and Andriy Shevchenko thumping the woodwork.

"Playing the way we did in the first half and escaping with a 0-0 draw was an absolute blessing for us," conceded the Juve boss.

"The break comes at the right time for us to recover our energy levels. I'd say that at the back we held out well, but in general the side was slow to pass the ball around and wasted counter-attacks with soft mistakes we just aren't used to seeing here."

Marcelo Zalayeta was the main substitution, replacing the disappointing Alessandro Del Piero in the second half.

"Seeing as we had trouble getting close to Dida's goal, I tried to put in a player who was physically strong and good at holding up the ball.

Gennaro Gattuso claimed tonight's match left Milan as favourites for the Scudetto despite remaining four points adrift of the leaders.

"We came here to play our game and know we are a good side," said the midfielder. "It's a shame we didn't win, but four points aren't much at this stage. We wasted three or four counter-attacks and the Juve offside trap was doing overtime."

"Milan had a difficult start to this season, but for the last couple of games we have hit our stride. I think we proved today that this is clearly a better team than Juve. They are a solid outfit, but we have something more."

Gianluca Zambrotta believes this is merely a blip on the scanner, though it is the first time Juve have failed to score at the Delle Alpi since Oct 2001, ending a run of 53 consecutive Serie A games.

"Perhaps we were a little nervous to begin with," conceded the fullback, "but we settled in the second half and it went much better. It is an important result for us, as we're still four points clear and can recharge our batteries over the Christmas break."

Del Piero raring to meet Madrid

Football Italia

Alessandro Del Piero admits it will take a "perfect Juve performance" to get the better of Real Madrid in the Champions' League.

"The draw has pitted us against one of the contenders for the trophy," the captain told his official website after the second round draw in Nyon.

The Spaniards only scraped through the group phase in second place behind Bayer Leverkusen, but Del Piero is not putting his team up as favourites for this tie.

"I'm none too convinced by Real Madrid's difficult time of late. Barcelona are dominating La Liga with some incredible results, but we mustn't forget that there are several European Players of the Year in that squad and quality does show in the end."

It's a familiar scenario for the Bianconeri, as they faced – and eliminated – the Merengues from the competition in 2003. Fans will be hoping for a repeat of the stunning 3-1 Turin victory on March 9.

"Madrid will be ready to play the perfect game once the tie comes around," concluded Del Piero, "so Juventus have to provide an equally perfect performance to beat them."

Del Piero scored one of the three goals in Turin that overturned a 2-1 first leg defeat in 2003.

Real Madrid set to announce Robinho capture

Tribal Football

Real Madrid are set to make their signing of Santos whiz Robinho public next month after his mother was freed by kidnappers last week. Real are believed to have already struck a deal with Santos for the Brazil international, but nothing was to be confirmed until his mother was safe.

Robinho is said to have resisted a bigger offer from Chelsea to commit to Real and said last month: "I would be very happy if I signed for Madrid and the contacts with this club has left me very happy. Ronaldo is my favorite player and I want to play with him one day. I someday hope to win many titles there."

Capello: Let's end this now

Football Italia

Fabio Capello wants to eat his Christmas dinner safe in the knowledge he has a seven-point advantage over Milan and won't settle for anything less.

"We will not play for the draw," insisted the Coach ahead of Saturday's Scudetto showdown. "Of course whatever the result we'll go into the Christmas break on top of the table, but Juventus simply don't have it in them to settle for a point."

The Bianconeri can afford to share the spoils at the Stadio Delle Alpi, especially as their form has dipped slightly over the last few weeks, but Capello puts that thought from his mind as he prepares to take on his former club.

"These two teams are equal on every level and it simply isn't true that Milan are on better form at the moment. I saw a good performance away to Bologna last week. In any case, this will not be a decisive game for the title race, not even if we go seven points clear."

Gianluigi Buffon will be able to start despite suffering from flu symptoms throughout the week, while there are reports Marcelo Zalayeta will push Alessandro Del Piero on to the bench.

"This tie can be decided by that moment of brilliance from an individual player," warned the Coach. "As always in these top of the table affairs, ten minutes can turn the whole game around."

Juventus know that all too well, having lost a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Inter in the closing stages. It was an incident that some say showed the first cracks in Capello's armoury.

Turin will stage some important battles, including the clash of the last two European Players of the Year – Pavel Nedved and Andriy Shevchenko – but the tactician is looking to another star.

"I am happy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and wouldn't let him leave my squad for anything. I expect Carlo Ancelotti would say the same about Shevchenko. They play in a different style, but both strikers just love to entertain the crowds."

It isn't just Capello who is taking on his former club, as Ancelotti returns to the Delle Alpi as the reigning Italian Champion after years of being dubbed 'a loser'.

"We both have Roma, Juve and Milan in our DNA," smiled the Juve boss who also played or Coached these clubs. "Ancelotti is a great tactician and has proved his worth everywhere."

The Delle Alpi is almost entirely sold out already for tomorrow night's game and the final remaining tickets should be snapped up on the day.

Nedved wants Shev swap

Football Italia

Pavel Nedved has handed the Golden Ball to Andriy Shevchenko – but he now wants Lo Scudetto in return. The Czech ace made the statement ahead of tomorrow night's big match between Juventus and Milan.

"I passed over the Golden Ball but I now want that tricolore triangle on the Milan shirt," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "Then I would like to win the Champions' League which remains my dream. I think about the Manchester Final that I missed all of the time."

However, Milan ace Shevchenko doesn't seem to be in too much of a charitable mood. "I can leave him the Coppa Italia if he wants it," responded the Ukrainian.

"The game in Turin won't be decisive. There is still the second half of the season to go and the Champions' League resumes in spring. We play football at pace and that is what we intend to do against Juventus at the Stadio Delle Alpi."

The Turin arena is set to be sold-out which excites Nedved. "I hope it is full for once," added the Bianconeri hero. "Juventus and Milan are two very organised sides and I hope that it turns out to be a good game."

Meanwhile, Rossoneri President Silvio Berlusconi has also looked ahead to the Scudetto showdown.

"The best team will win, which is Milan," said the chief. "After all, we have players like Kaka and Shevchenko. If the latter can continue on the road he is on then he could win the European Footballer of the Year award two or three more times."

Although Berlusconi is confident, he does fear two Juventus players in particular. "I would happily take Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nedved out of their team," he concluded.

Thuram: Milan tie not crucial

Football Italia

Lilian Thuram doubts that Juventus would take a significant step towards title glory with a win over Milan. The Bianconeri could stretch their lead over the San Siro giants to seven points on Saturday but the stopper is keeping cool.

"Seven points at this stage of the season are basically nothing," stated Thuram. "Little will change if we win, the Scudetto will still be a two-horse race."

Nevertheless, the former French international insists that his side will look for victory in front of a packed Stadio Delle Alpi.

"I expect a balanced game," he continued. "This is always a special match and the fact that it is a sell-out proves it. We must be alert against Milan but we won't wait for them in defence. We don't start games with the aim of drawing.

"My teammates are aware that we are a great squad. We have the pace and power to score goals."

Thuram himself has actually had the honour of scoring in the November 2002 tie that Juve won 2-1.

"I can still remember it," he smiled. "In fact, I'll never forget it seeing as I score once every 400 games"

Champions' League draw reaction

Football Italia

Inter are delighted by the prospect of facing Porto, but Juventus and Milan are disappointed with their Champions' League opponents. Juventus will play the mighty Real Madrid, while the Italian champions face a tricky tie against Manchester United.

"It is a classic of the modern game," stated Turin boss Fabio Capello. "It is even more stimulating for me when you consider that I worked there in the past. Real are a difficult team to play against and although all the clubs remaining are tough, we were hoping for a kinder draw."

But are Real the force they once were? "Their form has varied recently but who knows what shape they will be in come February," noted the tactician.

Key midfielder Emerson, who rejected a summer switch to Madrid, is looking forward to the game. "It won't be easy but if you want to win this competition then you must play the big teams at one stage," stated the Brazilian.

Juventus chief: Nonda must drop wage demands

Tribal Football

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has warned AS Monaco striker Shabani Nonda he must lower his personal demands if he wants a move to Turin. Nonda is off contract in the summer and has declared he'd love to join Juve.

Moggi revealed yesterday: "Nonda is someone we're interested in. But his contract demands are too high."

Juventus reject Barcelona offer for Tacchinardi

Tribal Football

Barcelona have been told to forget about Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi. It's understood Barca's offer for the Italy international fell well short of what Juve were asking and that the deal is now off. Juve vice-president Roberto Bettega said yesterday: "We won't give Tacchinardi to Barcelona."

Marek makes Udinese pledge

Football Italia

Marek Jankulovski has ruled out the possibility of leaving Udinese during the January transfer window. The Czech ace has been linked with both Juventus and Inter but a Stadio Friuli exit has been postponed.

"My primary objective of joining a big club hasn't changed but that won't happen in January," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "I'm very happy with life in Udine. The team is doing very well and I don't see any reason for a quick exit."

The Bianconeri are currently third in Serie A and the international midfielder is keen to help his current club into the Champions' League.

"There is just no sense in giving all this up in mid-season," continued the former Napoli player. "Leaving here would mean starting from scratch. We've gelled as a solid side and we are all enjoying our campaign."

Jankulovski nearly joined Juventus in the summer but no deal could be agreed between the two clubs.

In other transfer news today, Inter are being associated with a New Year swoop for Daniele Bonera. The Parma defender has been linked with both Juventus and Milan but the Nerazzurri now seem in pole position.

Inter are keen for some defensive reinforcements and are ready to offer cash, plus Giovanni Pasquale and Carlos Gamarra, for the Italian international.

Meghni ignores Juve rumours

Football Italia

Bologna youngster Mourad Meghni is keeping cool despite talk that Juventus are interested in him.

"I've heard the reports but I want to underline that I have had no contact with them," said the 21-year-old. "It is very flattering to be linked with Juventus but I am trying to not get too carried away at this stage. My only thoughts right now are to have a good season here with Bologna."

The French starlet is highly rated in the Italian game and he's already been dubbed as the 'New Zidane.' However, the Rossoblu recently confirmed that the attacking midfielder would definitely not be sold in January. Meghni is contracted to the Dall'Ara outfit until 2007 and has also been associated with Roma.

Inter bid for Bonera

Football Italia

The Nerazzurri aim to strengthen their defence in January with the arrival of Italian international Daniele Bonera. Inter have one of the worst back-lines in Serie A this season after conceding 24 goals in 15 games, as only Cagliari and Lecce have let in more.

Patron Massimo Moratti held talks with Coach Roberto Mancini this week in order to build a transfer strategy for the January window and the main target would appear to be Bonera. The central defender can also play as a right-back and could be released by Parma mid-season to stave off their financial problems.

Milan and Juventus are also interested in the former Under-21 international, so Inter can dive in with a promising bid that includes cash, Giovanni Pasquale and Carlos Gamarra.

Bonera would be brought in to effectively replace his former Stadio Tardini teammate Fabio Cannavaro, as Mancini's squad has not been able to make up for his sale to Juventus.

Man Utd linked with Fiorentina defender Ujfalusi

Tribal Football

Manchester United have been linked with Fiorentina defender Tomas Ujfalusi. The Czech Republic international has been scouted by United over recent weeks, though a January bid is unlikely. Also following Ujfalusi is Real Madrid, who like United will not consider a bid for the centre-half until the summer market opens.
