Moggi: This the best Juventus team I've built

Tribal Football

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi says this season's model is the best he has ever assembled. Ahead of Sunday's big clash with Inter Milan, Moggi said: "I cannot say if this Juventus team is invincible.

"But it is very strong and compact. Indeed, it is the best team I have built since I came here. I don't know if Sunday's game will decide the championship for Inter Milan. 15 points is a long way back for Inter, but in football anything is possible."

He added: "The arrivals of Emerson and Cannavaro have been crucial. They're both winners and very strong characters. We're at the start of an exciting new era."

Iuliano considering options

Sky Sports

Charlton Athletic and Lokomotiv Moscow have been credited with an interest in Mark Iuliano in the Italian press. The experienced Juventus stopper is out of contract in June and the Bianconeri hierarchy appear reluctant to agree fresh terms with the 31-year-old.

Although he made 18 Serie A appearances last term, Iuliano has not been a regular starter and is believed to be looking at his options as he is free to discuss terms with foreign clubs in January.

Lokomotiv are preparing a three-year offer for the centre back and the length of that proposal would be appealing to the former Salernitana man. However, Charlton are also rumoured to be keen to offer Iuliano the opportunity to ply his trade in England and a move to London also represents an attractive proposition.

If Iuliano decides to remain in Italy, there will be no shortage of interest in his services. Reggina, Lazio and Bologna have all been linked with a bid for him in the past.

Lippi sees Inter revival

Football Italia

Italy boss Marcello Lippi has looked ahead to Sunday's Derby d'Italia as Inter face Juventus.

"It is a fundamental game for the Scudetto," the tactician, who has bossed both clubs, told Tuttosport. "Juventus will have the desire to prove themselves as the leaders by attempting to increase their 15 point advantage over Inter to 18.

"The Nerazzurri will be hoping to get back into the title race by taking points off a direct title rival."

Many consider Inter to be already out of the Scudetto chase but Lippi believes they still have a chance. "There is not a 15 point difference between these two clubs," he noted. "Once Inter wake up they will start running very fast."

The game will also see two of Serie A's most impressive forwards face each other in the form of Adriano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"They are two great attackers," Lippi outlined. "The Brazilian has the ability to find the back of the net from any angle. The Swede has class and technique. He is as good a goalscorer as he is an assist man."

Depor favourites as Real Madrid go cold on Mascherano

Tribal Football

Real Madrid have gone cold on River Plate midfielder Javier Mascherano.

The Argentina international was regarded as the hottest property on the international market six weeks ago. But Real have dropped their interest in the 21 year-old after scouts recorded a string of poor performances for River in recent weeks.

Deportivo La Coruna are now outright favourites to land Mascherano, though with Real out of the running could demand River drop their £6 million asking price, which is sure to delay any deal past the January transfer window.

Preview: Inter - Juventus

Football Italia

The Derby d'Italia is the first real test of Juve's Scudetto credentials and could either put Inter back in the title race or send them plunging into a crisis of confidence. The Nerazzurri were thought to be among the title favourites during the summer, but after 12 games are already a staggering 15 points adrift of the leaders.

Roberto Mancini's men are the only unbeaten club left in the major European Leagues, but have drawn their last six Serie A games and have the third worst defence in the Division with 20 goals conceded – only Lecce and Roma have let in more with 21.

Perhaps even more worryingly, top scorer Adriano failed to find the target in their 3-3 draw at Cagliari and there are fears he is exhausted from playing in every official game for the club.

Obafemi Martins scored a brace in that entertaining encounter and should again partner the Brazilian upfront, though Kily Gonzalez, Juan Sebastian Veron and Andy Van der Meyde are still out injured.

Juventus have lost some of their sheen from the spectacular start to the season, holding off Lecce for a hard-fought 1-0 win before losing 2-0 at Atalanta in the Coppa Italia at the weekend. David Trezeguet and Jonathan Zebina are sidelined with injury, but there is a massive boost with Pavel Nedved's return from suspension.

Alessandro Del Piero limped off during the Lecce game with a slight muscular problem, but should be fit to play alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Last year this game ended 3-2 for the Nerazzurri – their first San Siro win over Juve in all competitions since 1998 – with Martins, Christian Vieri and Dejan Stankovic on target.

How will Fabio Capello's clinical squad and rock-solid defence deal with the all-attack excitement of Mancio's approach? Will it be the beginning of Inter's resurgence or the end of their dreams?

Inter (probable): Toldo; J Zanetti, Cordoba, Materazzi, Favalli; Ze Maria, Cambiasso, Emre, Stankovic; Adriano, Martins

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Pessotto, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Emerson, Blasi, Nedved; Del Piero, Ibrahimovic

Del Piero will miss Inter

Football Italia

Alessandro Del Piero did train today but the Italian will not feature for Juventus at Inter on Sunday. Boss Fabio Capello last night ruled the player out of the clash and Wednesday's events seemed to confirm that statement.

Although the No 10 was present at the Cisport centre, he only took part in a light training session away from the rest of the squad. Del Piero is struggling with a slight muscle strain and will not be risked for the Derby d'Italia.

However, there is some good news on the injury front after Gianluca Pessotto and Jonathan Zebina returned to action. Both defenders took part in a small practice game today and are at the full disposal of the tactician.

The Frenchman, who has been out injured since the 2-0 win over Roma, is expected to start against the Nerazzurri. Marcelo Zalayeta, who scored against Ajax last night, will begin alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack.

Emo believes in Euro glory

Football Italia

Juventus ace Emerson is confident that his club can win the Champions' League this season. The Brazilian made the statement after his side maintained their 100 per cent record with a fifth consecutive 1-0 win.

"It is difficult to say who is the strongest team in Europe right now," he said following the victory over Ajax last night. "Barcelona are probably the side that are impressing me the most but they are different to us.

"We defend very well, while Barcelona are more spectacular than us when going forward. I think our defensive strength is more of an advantage though and that is why we could end up winning this."

Although Juventus may not be an entertaining attacking outfit, striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to impress.

"I'm satisfied with my performance against my old club," said the Swedish international. "I'm happy with my progress. My partnership with Marcelo Zalayeta? He is getting better all of the time and I'm happy to play alongside him."

Capello: Alessio is staying

Sky Sports

Juventus coach Fabio Capello has dismissed talk that Alessio Tacchinardi could leave in January. Tacchinardi has found himself on the fringes of the Juve team since Capello's arrival in the summer, bringing rumours of a move to Catalan giants Barcelona.

However, Capello insists that the midfielder is crucial part of his squad, adding that he would not be open to a January sale.

"We only have four regular midfielders," explained Capello, after Marcelo Zalayeta's striker had earned a 1-0 UEFA Champions League win against Ajax. "Tacchinardi is not on the market and we absolutely don't think he could leave.

"He certainly is not for sale and he will stay."

Capello was delighted to put defeat to Atalanta in the Coppa Italia behind him with a victory in Europe. "We are on the right track," said the former Milan and Roma coach. "I've found again a team with real determination after the defeat to Atalanta.

"Zalayeta is a really important player for of us. He knows we are short of strikers but has reacted well to the club and the team's faith in him."

Alessandro Del Piero is still struggling with a muscular injury sustained against Lecce, and is likely to miss out on the weekend's high-profile clash against Internazionale.

"He won't play on Sunday," confirmed Capello. "He's trying to recover from injury in time for the match after that."

Juventus in Fiorentina talks over trio

Tribal Football

Juventus are in talks with Fiorentina over the co-ownership deals of three of their players. Giorgio Chellini, Enzo Maresca and Fabrizio Miccoli are all on-loan at Fiorentina after the two clubs agreed to split their registrations at the start of the season.

Fiorentina are keen to sign the trio outright and Juve are ready to do business as they seek to raise funds for their own transfer plans.

Fulham, Charlton eye Juventus veteran Iuliano

Tribal Football

Juventus are touting defenders Nicola Legrottaglie and Mark Iuliano around Europe. Both players have been frozen out since the arrival of coach Fabio Capello over the summer and could be sold when the January market opens.

In Italy, AS Roma coach Gigi del Neri is keen to be reunited with his former Chievo defender Legrottaglie, while Palermo are interested in Iuliano. Fulham, Charlton and Birmingham City have also been linked with Iuliano, who has declared this year that he would welcome a move to the Premiership.

Zalayeta celebrates after scoring

Marcelo Zalayeta ensured Juve's fifth consecutive 1-0 victory in Europe and put an end to Ajax's hopes.

The Bianconeri were already qualified for the next stage going into this game, so Fabio Capello made several changes with Paolo Montero and Alessio Tacchinardi making rare appearances and Alessandro Del Piero left in the stands. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was not rested, so he could face the teammates he left in the summer.

There have been strong reports this week that Juve are tracking Ajax player Maxwell, but it was the Brazilian whose error allowed Mauro Camoranesi to roll the ball across for Marcelo Zalayeta to side-foot home the opener after 15 minutes.

Turin really wasn't doing Maxwell any favours, as another terrible defensive error gave Pavel Nedved the chance to set up Zalayeta, but the Uruguayan slipped at the crucial moment.

Ajax were passing the ball around in midfield, but rarely managed to get anywhere near Gianluigi Buffon's area. Their first attempt was a Rosales shot after 26 minutes that was charged down around twelve yards from goal.

However, moments later Buffon flew to palm out a splendid Rafael van der Vaart free kick from the edge of the box. It was a brilliant one-handed save from the 'keeper who is yet to concede in the Champions' League proper this season.

Montero has barely featured this season, but got himself booked for reacting angrily to a foul from van der Vaart. Nedved bravely won two midfield challenges to set off a counter-attack and Ibrahimovic blasted the final shot over the bar from a promising position.

Juventus continued to have the better of the game after the restart with Emerson just failing to get on the end of Nedved's taut cross.

17-year-old Ryan Babel wasted a golden opportunity for Ajax on the counter-attack and drilled a low drive wide, but Emerson was only prevented from doubling the home side's lead by a Hatem Trabelsi goalline clearance. Nedved's effort had been charged down into the path of the Brazilian and some desperate defending kept his header out of Vonk's net.

Camoranesi was booked and will miss the final Group C game against Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Ibrahimovic's stab was easily saved and Zdenek Grygera nodded wide for the Dutch Champions, but this result - and Bayern Munich's rout in Tel-Aviv - puts an end to Ajax's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage.

Juventus: Buffon: Birindelli (Cannavaro 85), Thuram, Montero, Zambrotta; Camoranesi (Olivera 70), Emerson, Tacchinardi, Nedved; Zalayeta, Ibrahimovic (Kapo 78)

Ajax: Vonk; Trabelsi, Grygera, Escudè, Maxwell; De Jong (Sneijder 70), Galasek, van der Vaart, Boukhari (Mitea 59); Rosales, Babel (Anastasiou 79)

Capello shrugs off record

Football Italia

Fabio Capello has praised his players for beating Ajax despite being already qualified, but insists records don't interest him.

"It's best to lose a few along the way and then get to the Final," smiled the Juventus boss. "I was glad to see the team play with the same determination and concentration as always."

The Bianconeri were already sure of their spot in the knockout stage before this result, but the fifth consecutive 1-0 victory matches their club record in the European Cup. Marcelo Zalayeta scored the winner and has filled in admirably for the injured David Trezeguet.

"Zalayeta has matured as a player and probably feels more faith in him this year, which is why he's giving his best for the club. I put out a team I felt was able to play on level terms with and beat Ajax. Paolo Montero and Alessio Tacchinardi can be relied upon and everyone gave me a positive response."

There are reports that the Turin club will make massive changes during the January window, but Capello laughed off this speculation.

"We have no intention of selling Alessandro Birindelli or Tacchinardi. They are not on the transfer market."

The Serie A leaders can now look forward to Sunday's Scudetto showdown with Inter, but Capello had bad news for the supporters.

"We can already say that Alessandro Del Piero will not be ready to play against Inter on Sunday. He is undergoing treatment and will be back next week."

Gianluigi Buffon performed another decisive save tonight to ensure he is yet to concede a single goal in the competition proper this season.

"It's a record that also amazes me, but keeping clean sheets increases confidence and helps us to play better in the future, especially after our problems at the back last season," noted the goalkeeper. "Here's hoping we can continue along this path right the way to the Final."

Zalayeta bagged another decisive goal and is becoming a key player in the absence of Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero.

"When I went out on loan in Spain it helped me a great deal," said the Uruguayan. "Once you know the club has faith in you and your own confidence is boosted, everything becomes simpler. Thankfully there is a team mentality here at Juve and everyone chips in to help out when another player is injured."

Ajax man Maxwell was reported to be a transfer target for Juve, but embarrassed himself with the error that allowed Zalayeta to score.

"I just received the ball and was trying to control, but never expected Camoranesi to come up behind me so quickly," revealed the Brazilian. "There are lots of people talking about transfers, but although it's true I am good friends with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he plays for Juventus and I play for Ajax. Of course I'd like to play in Italy and all players would consider Juventus a step up in their career, but everything has a right time."

Capello wishes Fergie well

Sky Sports

Juventus coach Fabio Capello has sent his best wishes to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson on the eve of the Scot's 1,000th game in charge at Old Trafford. The former Milan chief is astounded at Ferguson's longevity in the role with the clash with Lyon a landmark fixture for the United manager.

"For sure, it's an historical achievement," he stated. "For what he did and what he's doing for Manchester. 1,000 times on the bench is really a lot but you can obtain this with few teams. What is amazing is the fact that Ferguson has been managing Manchester for 18 years.

"My best wishes to my friend Alex."

Capello has plenty of respect for Ferguson and the United manager will be paid a special tribute in 'Knight of 1,000 games' on Sky Sports 1 on Monday evening at six o'clock.

Thuram: "Motivation Not Lacking Against Ajax"

Goal.com

Lilian Thuram will once again wear the captain armband on Tuesday night as Juventus host Ajax in the 5th matchday of the Champions League.

Many believe that the bianconeri, who are already qualified as first in the group, will not have the necessary motivations for this encounter, and will already have their heads on Sunday night's clash against Inter at San Siro.

However the French defender does not agree with this as he thinks the Juve players will still be motivated on Tuesday night.

"Even though we are already qualified as first in the group, the motivations will come by themselves when you face such high-quality squads. They are young and play very well. But we are Juventus and we shall go on the pitch always to win."

Due to Del Piero's absence, Thuram takes the captain's armband once again, something which makes him very proud. "It's something that pleases me a lot, because it means that there is trust in me."

Swede surprised by Juve move

Sky Sports

Juventus star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted he was surprised to make the move to Turin in the summer. The Swedish international has been a massive success at Juve since arriving from Ajax just before the close of the transfer window in August.

Ibrahimovic admitted he had several other options before making the move to Juventus and that he did not think he would move to Italy.

"Three months ago I couldn't imagine of arriving in Turin. I thought of Spain, England, France, but never of Italy," said Ibrahimovic. "Then Juve arrived and this was an incredible occasion I couldn't lose.

"My aim is to win as much as possible with Juve, considering that with Sweden it's most difficult."

Ibrahimovic is already looking forward to next weekend's crucial clash with Internazionale and he hopes to get the win to stretch their lead at the top of the table.

"I am sorry for Inter, but next Sunday we are going to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in order to win," added Ibrahimovic. "Our mentality means trying to win wherever we go and against any opponent.

"If we lose, then that's fair enough, but at least we give it our all. Inter have great champions who can change a game at any moment and with a couple of victories they could get back into the race."

Maxwell under observation

Football Italia

Juventus officials will use tonight's Champions' League match against Ajax to further assess Maxwell. The Brazilian wide player has been strongly linked with the Bianconeri and he's keen to impress.

"It is my objective to win a move to one of Europe's strongest clubs," said the South American. "I am aware that Juventus are interested and that is of great personal satisfaction for me right now."

However, the Turin giants are not alone in the chase to sign the highly-rated individual as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Milan and Inter are also tracking him.

"I get the feeling that the first club to knock on Ajax's door will be able to conclude a deal," added Maxwell.

However, the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit insist that they have no plans to sign him in the near future. "We have no intention to buy anyone in the January transfer window," confirmed boss Fabio Capello yesterday.

Chiellini tug of war

Football Italia

Giorgio Chiellini's agent has confirmed that his client is at the centre of a transfer battle between Fiorentina and Juventus. The youngster is one of the most highly-rated players in Italy right now and the Viola are keen to complete his signing from the Turin giants.

However, Juventus have no intention of sacrificing the 20-year-old who made his full international debut last week.

"Chiellini's situation is that he is co-owned by both clubs," stated his representative Davide Lippi. "Fiorentina want to keep hold of him or at last renew their co-ownership agreement for another season.

"However, Juventus spent quite a bit of money in the summer to net him from Livorno and I don't think they want to let go of the player."

Juventus have the right to recall the left-back even if the Under-21 regular is happy with life at the Stadio Franchi. "Giorgio is content in Florence," added Lippi. "That is also because he would be blocked by Gianluca Zambrotta in Turin who is performing consistently well."

Many expect the Bianconeri to allow Chiellini to remain with the Viola for one more season, before recalling him in the summer of 2006.

Barcelona forced to revive Tacchinardi push

Tribal Football

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain held crunch talks with coach Frank Rijkaard on Monday about the winter market. Currently, Barca have only 14 fit senior players, with Henrik Larsson now ruled out for the season with knee injury.

Rijkaard told Begiristain that he does not have much confidence in the January market, but the pair agreed to pursue a deal similar to what brought Edgar Davids on-loan from Juventus last season.

The prime target is Alessio Tacchinardi, ironically also from Juventus. The Italians are happy to offload the midfielder to Barca, but would prefer an outright sale. Barca aren't interested and only want Tacchinardi for a six-month loan deal.

Juventus v Ajax Amsterdam: Preview

ESPN Soccernet

Juventus coach Fabio Capello insists his in-form side will do Ajax no favours in Tuesday's Champions League encounter at the Delle Alpi. The Dutch giants travel to Turin in desperate need of a win in order to have any realistic chance of joining their Italian opponents in the last 16 of Europe's elite club competition.

Juve currently lead Group C with 12 points, six more than Bayern Munich, while Ajax are level on three points with Maccabi Tel-Aviv after four games.

But Capello has reiterated that his team are not distracted by next weekend's crunch Serie A encounter against Internazionale, and that they are determined to maintain their winning run in Europe.

"We have already qualified but that doesn't mean that we should not seek the victory," said Capello. "We always have to have the same motivation to do well, because we are Juventus and winning is always important for the European ranking.

"In this game we will play with the same focus and determination."

However, Capello is expected to rest a number of his top players for the clash with Ronald Koeman's side. Juve are six points clear of second-placed AC Milan in Serie A but a defeat this weekend could see the Rossoneri reduce the deficit.

Defender Jonathan Zebina is expected to return to action after a one-month absence through injury, and French midfielder Olivier Kapo is also likely to be included in the starting XI. Marcelo Zalayeta looks set to partner former Ajax forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack.

Capello is looking for Ibrahimovic to play a major role on Tuesday, as he lines up against his old club.

"Zlatan will like to have a starring role and this is normal when you face your former team-mates," said Capello. "The important thing is that he is calm and that he plays as he knows because then he becomes a crucial player for us."

Ajax have had an indifferent start in the Dutch Eredivisie but Saturday's 5-0 win at De Graafschap offered their supporters hope that they have finally found the form that will see them challenge PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and surprise-package AZ Alkmaar.

However, Koeman has a number of selection problems with Jonny Heitinga, Steven Pienaar and keeper Bogdan Lobont all absent through injury.

Capello eyes pointless win

Football Italia

Fabio Capello maintains his Juventus side will look for victory against Ajax – despite already winning Group C.

"We are obliged to do well because we are still Juventus," said the tactician ahead of Tuesday's Turin clash. "We don't lack any motivation and winning would still be important for us because it would boost our European ranking.

"I can assure you that my players will go into this game with grit, attention and determination."

The Bianconeri have won all four of their Champions' League games 1-0 so far and Capello expects Ajax to test them. "They are an important club on the European scene," he added. "They always produce players of great talent."

The Delle Alpi outfit go into the clash after their surprising 2-0 reverse at Atalanta on Friday in the Coppa Italia. "I thought we did well until they scored," continued Capello. "However we were disunited after that goal and that led to errors which we must not make again."

The tactician has left Alex Del Piero out of the squad for tomorrow's game but Zlatan Ibrahimovic should feature. "He'll want to do well against his former teammates," noted the ex-Roma boss. "It is just important that he stays calm and plays his normal game."

Juventus squad - Goalkeepers: Buffon, Chimenti.

Defenders: Legrottaglie, Montero, Tudor, Birindelli, Thuram, Zambrotta, Cannavaro.

Midfielders: Emerson, Tacchinardi, Appiah, Camoranesi, Blasi, Nedved.

Attackers: Zalayeta, Olivera, Ibrahimovic, Kapo.

Juventus coach Capello wants Roma foursome

Tribal Football

Juventus coach Fabio Capello has spoken with director general Luciano Moggi about a new raid on former club AS Roma. After prising Emerson and Jonathan Zebina away in the summer, Capello is set to return to his old employers for firebrand striker Antonio Cassano.

Capello sees Cassano as a long-term successor to Juve star Alessandro del Piero and knows the youngster would love to again work with his former Roma coach.

But Capello's interest doesn't end with the ex-Bari starlet, Juve are also interested in crocked defender Cristian Chivu, want-away fullback Christian Panucci and young midfielder Daniele Corvia.

Juventus in Brescia talks for Liverpool target Caracciolo

Tribal Football

Juventus have held more talks with Brescia over centre-forward Andrea Caracciolo. The Italy U21 international is also being tracked by Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk and is contracted to Brescia until 2006.

Juve coach Fabio Capello has a three-man shortlist of likely striker targets, with Caracciolo topping it from Simone Inzaghi (Lazio) and Vincenzo Iaquinta (Udinese). The trio are all being considered in the event David Trezeguet fails to fully recover from his shoulder operation.

De Biasi blocks Caracciolo

Football Italia

Brescia boss Gianni De Biasi is confident that star striker Andrea Caracciolo will not be sold in January. The newly capped Italian international has been linked with a switch but his current tactician believes that will not happen.

"Caracciolo can continue his technical and tactical development with calm," De Biasi stated. "That way he will be totally ready for a big club."

The former Under-21 international is one of the most highly-rated young forwards in Italy right now. Caracciolo has impressed in Serie A over the last 18 months and is regularly finding the back of the net. That has seen his name linked with clubs such as Juventus and Milan during the last few months.

However, the former Perugia player is just concentrating on his current outfit for the time being.

"I'm trying not to think about the rumours regarding me in the media," he told journalists last week. "For the moment I am staying at Brescia and all that I am focused on is making sure we are not relegated."

Inter Milan supremo Moratti to raid Juventus for Moggi

Tribal Football

Inter Milan majority shareholder Massimo Moratti is considering a major management reshuffle. Moratti is ready to return to being president, with Giacinto Facchetti stepping aside and inheriting the vice-president's role, in a similar position held by Adriano Galliani at AC Milan.

Moratti also wants a new director general and is chasing Juventus' Luciano Moggi. Moggi's capture would be a huge blow to Juve, but Moratti is confident he can bring the powerbroker to the San Siro to work with himself and coach Roberto Mancini in rebuilding Inter.

Iuliano set for CSKA

Football Italia

Russian giants CSKA Moscow have reportedly made a bid for Juventus stopper Mark Iuliano. CSKA are understood to have offered around £2m for the stopper, 31, who is actually out of contract in the summer.

Iuliano, who rarely features for the Bianconeri, could be tempted by a £1.5m a season contract. The Turin giants seem to have too many centre-backs in their squad and are keen to offload a few players in January.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Zebina is expected to return to the line-up for Tuesday's Champions' League game against Ajax. The right-back has been sidelined with a muscle problem but will be back in action at the Delle Alpi.

Juve are expected to field a host of reserves though given that they have already qualified for the knock-out stages. Alex Del Piero, Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro, Mauro Camoranesi and Emerson are all expected to be rested ahead of Sunday's trip to Inter.

Gilardino in Milan hint

Football Italia

Parma hotshot Alberto Gilardino seems to have his eyes on a transfer to Italian giants Milan. The youngster has been heavily linked with the Rossoneri and he now admits he'd be happy to join the San Siro outfit.

"It is my dream to play alongside Andriy Shevchenko," he told Controcampo. "I think I would do well alongside him. I could play as the main target man, while he could come from a deeper position. There would be nothing better than partnering Sheva.

"He definitely deserves to win the Golden Ball. He always seems to score goals. He's the best striker around."

Milan are believed to be interested in the Azzurri ace even if the club have recently ruled out any January signings. But Gilardino has seemingly opened the door for a switch as soon as the transfer window opens in the New Year.

"Parma and myself have come to an agreement that I will remain until June but football is a strange game," he stated.

Milan do have offensive problems given that only Shevchenko is regularly finding the back of the net. Pippo Inzaghi is sidelined until February with injury, while both Hernan Crespo and Jon Dahl Tomasson are struggling for form.

Santos ace Robinho prefers Real Madrid over Chelsea

Tribal Football

Santos dazzler Robinho has indicated he wants a move to Real Madrid over Chelsea. Both European giants are battling for the Brazilian's signature and Robinho revealed to AS yesterday: "Real Madrid is the best club in the world, everyone knows it.

"It is the club which all players dream of playing for and in that sense I am not different from the rest. I would like to play in Europe and I hope the dream can be made a reality someday. I would be very happy to play for Real Madrid, so when I knew that they were interested in me, I was very pleased.

"I hope I can conquer titles in the same form that I conquered titles here."

He added: "For me to play for Real Madrid would be the completion of a dream. In addition, it would delight me to play in Spain because it is a country that is identified more with Brazil. I hope to play Spanish football, if God wants."

Unhappy Tevez closer to Atletico Madrid

Tribal Football

Carlos Tevez has put Atletico Madrid on red alert after declaring yesterday that he wants to quit Boca Juniors. The Argentina international striker has been the subject of intense interest from Atletico, along with several European rivals, and rapped: "Here the champions are harassed.

"I have given everything for Boca and they throw mud at me. My family is also suffering. Ideally, I would like to stay and play for Boca, but this is now impossible."

Tevez revealed he had received contact from Brazilian giants Corinthians. "I've spoken with them, but we do not have an agreement. I do know that I could handle playing in Brazil."

Ibra: No mercy for Inter

Football Italia

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has every intention of increasing his Serie A tally when Juve travel to Inter in next weekend's big game at the San Siro.

"I am sorry for Inter, but next Sunday we are going to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in order to win," said the Swede who has already netted five League goals.

The Nerazzurri are the only Italian side to remain unbeaten this season, but have drawn their last five domestic ties and another setback would all but rule them out of the Scudetto race.

"Our mentality means trying to win wherever we go and against any opponent," continued the former Ajax star. "If we lose, then that's fair enough, but at least we give it our all. Inter have great champions who can change a game at any moment and with a couple of victories they could get back into the race."

On Friday evening the Bianconeri were defeated 2-0 at Atalanta in the Coppa Italia, though most of their top stars were on the bench. Pavel Nedved picked up an ankle injury and could miss Tuesday's Champions' League clash with Ajax.

Ibrahimovic is also in the spotlight after making the shortlist for the Balon d'Or, though the Euro 2004 star has no illusions.

"There is time for me as I am still young," said the 23-year-old. "I am happy that the Swedish Player of the Year award went to Henrik Larsson, as he really did deserve it. As for the European version, I think Andriy Shevchenko will win, though I'd be happy for Ronaldinho or Thierry Henry to get it."

Meanwhile, Manchester United hitman Ruud van Nistelrooy has also given his opinion on the France Football trophy. "I would give it to Marcos Cafu," said the Dutchman in an interview with RAI programme 'Dribbling'.

Bianconeri bid for Obodo

Football Italia

Fiorentina midfielder Chris Obodo admits he is among a list of potential buys for Juventus, which also includes Christian Panucci.

"I am not one of those players who loses concentration when he's at the centre of transfer talk," stated the young Nigerian. "In fact, to hear a big club like Juve is interested in me can only push me on to do even better."

Obodo first hit the Serie A scene as a teenager with Perugia, but has really matured at the Stadio Artemio Franchi this season with strong performances and three stunning goals – including a 40-yard lob against Lecce.

"I am very happy in Florence and settled in immediately," he told 'Tuttosport'. "That's why I would only think of moving on at the end of the season. Mind you, if Juventus called me then I'd happily go to Turin for such a great club."

The Bianconeri are reportedly looking at three big name January signings to ensure their second string squad is every bit as competitive as the preferred eleven.

The disappointing 2-0 Coppa Italia defeat at Atalanta rang alarm bells and Fabio Capello is said to be eyeing up Lazio's Simone Inzaghi, Udinese striker Vincenzo Iaquinta – also a target for Milan – and his old friend Christian Panucci.

The Roma defender has followed Capello to Milan, Real Madrid and the Giallorossi, while he would certainly be available for a transfer following his row with Coach Gigi Del Neri. Panucci was frozen out of the squad for several weeks as punishment and, although the situation has been resolved, he does not form part of his plans.

Instead, Del Neri would be overjoyed to have his former Chievo prodigy Nicola Legrottaglie back in the squad and Juve are content with this straight swap loan deal.

Other players set to leave Turin are Igor Tudor, Mark Iuliano and perhaps Alessandro Birindelli if Marek Jankulovski makes the move from Udinese.

Fiorentina's Obodo enjoying Juventus rumours

Tribal Football

Fiorentina midfielder Cristian Obodo says he loves the rumours linking him with Juventus. The Nigerian youngster declared: "I'm not one of those players annoyed by the market talk; for me, they do not provoke distraction neither a disturbance, to the contrary they excite me and it gives new stimulus.

"They push me to work always better. Saying this, I will only think about these reports at the end of the season. In Florence I am very happy and I am settled here.

"Juventus? If they called me, I would gladly go, they're a great club. But I repeat, in the Viola shirt I am very happy."

Chelsea lead Real Madrid for Brazilian starlet Robinho

Tribal Football

Chelsea are leading the chase to sign Santos whiz-kid Robinho. Despite the push from Real Madrid, Robinho's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, told the News of the World: "Chelsea are the only team who have confirmed they are prepared to pay £14m.

"Robinho is excited at the prospect of the move and we are trying to make sure everything is okay."

According to Ribeiro, the Blues are keen to seal the deal when the transfer window re-opens in January. He added: "We are following Chelsea very closely in order to give Robinho all the information, so he is not scared of going to a country so different to Brazil.

"But Robinho asked me to check clubs in Europe after what happened with his mother. Chelsea have made an offer and that is encouraging."

Robinho, who plays for Santos, wants to leave Brazil in order to avoid a repeat of the recent kidnapping of his mother, who was snatched during a barbecue.

Lecce coach: Chelsea must wait for Bojinov

Tribal Football

Lecce coach Zdenek Zeman insists striker Valeri Bojinov will not be sold in January. Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich is preparing an £8 million bid for the 18 year-old Bulgarian, but Zeman said yesterday: "You can be certain of this - Bojinov will not be sold in January.

"If someone wants to sign him, they will have to wait until the end of the championship."

Capello confident of Coppa progress

Football Italia

Juve will need a strong result to overturn their 2-0 Coppa Italia defeat to Atalanta, but Fabio Capello remains confident.

"We played a good first half, then gifted a goal and from that moment on we were disappointing," conceded the Coach after last night's Third Round tie at the Stadio Azzurri d'Italia.

Some critics have claimed that the Bianconeri's fine run will hit problems because the squad lacks strength in depth and the second-string side struggled to make an impact.

"I saw Antonio Chimenti play very well between the posts," insisted Capello. "We tried to win it, but unfortunately it didn't go well. I am happy with the fitness levels, though clearly the result is unsatisfactory. We still have the second leg to turn it around."

There were also concerns after Pavel Nedved - up until that point their most influential player in the game - limped off with a bruised leg.

"He picked up a knock to his left ankle," explained the tactician. "We obviously hope it is nothing serious, but we will evaluate the situation over the next few hours."

The result is certainly a boost for Atalanta, who are the only Serie A side still without a League victory this season.

"This is a deserved victory earned against a great squad," beamed Andrea Mandorlini. "Juve have a big enough squad to be top class even without many of their bigger stars and we'll enjoy this result ahead of the trip to Turin."

Zambrotta: Cannavaro an optimal Juventus signing

Tribal Football

Gianluca Zambrotta has described Juventus teammate Fabio Cannavaro as "an optimal purchase".

"He has been an optimal purchase, but in a great team as ours there are many important players," said the Juve wing-back. "The past year we have conceded many goals, but not this season. For the Scudetto, it will be a fight between us and Milan."

Morientes calls Capello

Football Italia

Fernando Morientes and Santiago Solari look set to leave Real Madrid for Serie A shores, possibly as early as January. The Spanish international has long been linked with Italian clubs, above all Roma and Juventus, and he admits the move is a possibility.

"There is no room at Real for me," said Morientes. "I want to play in Italy and still don't understand why my proposed switch to Roma fell through."

The Giallorossi had been in advanced negotiations with the experienced forward in the summer, but the departure of Fabio Capello pushed the club towards other targets.

Capello has never disguised his admiration for Morientes and would certainly appreciate his arrival at the Stadio Delle Alpi, where Juventus are looking for a new forward after David Trezeguet's injuries.

"I don't cause problems for Madrid, but when I answer my critics with goals I always seem to end up back on the bench," added the forward. "I know my own worth and want to play regularly. I wish I'd never left Monaco now."

Morientes isn't the only star preparing to leave the Bernabeu, as Santiago Solari is heading for the San Siro next summer. His contract expires in July and the Argentine - who rejected Inter's terms when the deal had already been done two years ago - is a target for both Milan and the Nerazzurri.

Coppa: Juve defenders crumble

Football Italia

Two uncharacteristic defensive errors caused Juve's first Cup defeat of the campaign as Atalanta triumph with an Andrea Lazzari brace.

Fabio Capello rested several star players for the Bianconeri's Coppa debut, but European Player of the Year Pavel Nedved was in the starting eleven. The Czech made an immediate impact, as two early efforts were well saved by goalkeeper Alex Calderoni.

Nicola Legrottaglie made his comeback from injury and performed several important challenges on Luca Saudati, but Atalanta stepped up a gear after the break and tested Antonio Chimenti with Saudati's stop and volley.

The deadlock was eventually broken by the home side on the hour mark. Mark Iuliano's defensive error allowed Andrea Lazzari to break free and the Under-21 international took two attempts to finally beat Chimenti with a left-foot finish.

Lazzari was making the most of this opportunity and nearly bagged an identical second soon after, but this time Chimenti flew to keep the scoreline down.

Olivier Kapo's low drive skimmed the woodwork, but another rare slip-up at the back cost Juve dearly. Substitute Lilian Thuram hesitated and Lazzari pounced once again to score his second of the match.

Thuram nearly made up for his error soon after, though he gathered a free kick and slammed it on to the crossbar from close range.

Juventus could still turn it all around in the second leg at the Delle Alpi, but were fortunate that Igor Budan's third goal was disallowed for offside.

Trez postpones Turin return

Football Italia

Juventus forward David Trezeguet will remain in Lyon for a further week following shoulder surgery. The Frenchman was scheduled to fly back to Turin today but his return has been postponed. Trezeguet will continue his rehabilitation in his homeland after the club held talks with his surgeon.

Whispers also suggest that the former Monaco man isn't set for a speedy return to first team action. The player and the club were hoping to have the international back to full fitness by the middle of January. However, reports now suggest that Trezeguet will not be at Fabio Capello's disposal until the beginning of February.

Meanwhile, Juventus transfer guru Luciano Moggi is reportedly already planning for the future. He's looking for a creative attacking midfielder and two youngsters have been strongly associated.

Atalanta's Riccardo Montolivo, 19, is an option but the current favourite is Bologna's 20-year-old Mourad Meghni. Both have been likened to Zinedine Zidane.

Italian duo chase Mutu

Football Italia

Roma and Juventus are about to renew their rivalry on the transfer market for Adrian Mutu. The Romanian, recently sacked by Chelsea, will be available for nothing in May once his drug ban ends. Reports in Italy today suggest that both giants are interested in the player who has already proved his worth in Serie A with Inter, Verona and Parma.

Juventus were already close to netting the forward in the summer but talks with Chelsea collapsed at the last minute. They were again linked recently after Mutu changed agents, given that he is now represented by Alessandro Moggi - the son of Juventus director general Luciano Moggi.

However, it now seems that Roma are in pole position as Moggi junior could soon be handed a director role with the Giallorossi. The capital club see Mutu as a valid, and cheaper, alternative than the enigmatic Antonio Cassano.

The latter may be sold, possibly to Juventus, given that talks over a new contract are seemingly problematic.

In other transfer whispers, the Turin giants have reportedly opened talks with Barcelona over the sale of Alessio Tacchinardi. The Spaniards are keen on the midfielder and would like him as soon as the January transfer window opens.

If Juventus sell the former Atalanta player then they are likely to use the money received to net Udinese ace Marek Jankulovski.

Inter Milan offer players for Jankulovski

Tribal Football

Inter Milan are reluctant to offer cash to Udinese for midfielder Marek Jankulovski. The Czech Republic international is an alternative target for Inter while Lazio president Claudio Lotito refuses to do business over Cesar.

Inter supremo Massimo Moratti is determined to bring in a left-sided midfielder for coach Roberto Mancini in January and is pressing Udinese for an answer over Jankulovski. Moratti has offered a series of players in exchange for Czech, including Giovanni Pasquale, Nicola Beati and Giorgis Karagounis.

Reggina land Juventus duo

Tribal Football

Reggina have swooped for Juventus pair Viktor Boudianski and Ilyas Zeytulaev. The Ukrainian duo have been snapped up from Juve's Primavera squad after ending their contracts by mutual consent this week.

They were first offered to Udinese before Reggina stepped in on Tuesday with concrete offers for both players. Boudianski and Zeytulaev have signed with Reggina until 2009.

Chiellini unsure of future

Football Italia

Fiorentina and Juventus are desperately trying to reach an agreement over the future of Giorgio Chiellini. The left-back is currently excelling in Florence after he joined in a co-ownership deal from Juve in the summer. The Turin giants do have the option to recall him at the end of the season but the Viola are keen to keep hold of him.

"I'm happy because it is better for me to play regularly here rather than sit on the bench in Turin," Chiellini stated. "It is important for youngsters like me to play as regularly as possible. My future? I'll just have to see what the two clubs decide in June."

Some reports today suggest that Juve could allow him to remain for another season but then take him back in the summer of 2006.

Chiellini, an Under-21 international, has made an exceptional start to the season and even won his first full Italy cap on Wednesday. The former Livorno ace featured in the 1-0 win over Finland and is being tipped to remain in the squad after an excellent display.

Bianchi eyes dream move

Football Italia

Cagliari starlet Rolando Bianchi is looking to join a big club in the January transfer window. The youngster rarely features for the Sardinian side but believes his performances at Under-21 level have impressed.

"The goal I scored against Bulgaria on Tuesday was important to highlight my ability with the transfer window coming up," said the striker. "I'm happy at Cagliari but the possibility to join an Italian giant is really stimulating for me."

Bianchi, another product of the Atalanta youth system, is definitely a player to look out for in the future. He's already scored five goals at U-21 level since September and some are comparing him to Parma ace Alberto Gilardino.

Spartak Moscow's Cavenaghi linked with Serie A

Tribal Football

Fernando Cavenaghi insists he is happy at Spartak Moscow, despite a poor start to his European season. The 21 year-old Argentine striker is on a three-year contract with the Russians worth over £1.4 million-a-season, but is already the subject of speculation of a possible exit in the summer.

"At this time, I must prove myself at Spartak Moscow, then after that I can consider my future," Cavenaghi said. "I am desperate to score, but to do this I must work hard in training."

Asked about a move to Italy, where Juventus, Palermo and AC Milan are waiting to speak with him, the ex-River Plate ace added: "I could have a future in Italy, if they want me ..."

Tevez turns to Serie A

Football Italia

The race for Carlos Tevez could favour the Italian clubs now that Argentina's latest sensation has changed his agent.

"From now on my interests will be dealt with by Adrian Ruocco," explained the Boca Juniors striker. "I owe a lot to my former representative Roberto Tesone and he was like one of the family."

Tesone had been close to agreeing a deal with Atletico Madrid, Corinthians and Bayern Munich, but this development will allow Milan, Palermo and Fiorentina back into the running.

"Boca Juniors are only a stepping stone for Tevez," conceded the club President Mauricio Macri. "We have to decide and evaluate the various offers and along with the player we'll make a decision at the end of this year."

Ruocco is already getting to work and told newspapers in South America that so far the best financial offer has come from Brazilians Corinthians for a reported £11m, so the Rossoneri and other Serie A sides know the competition they are up against.

21-year-old Tevez made his mark in the Olympics this summer, but has struggled to live up to his reputation over the last few weeks, as personality clashes and newspaper interest in his private life have seen him temporarily dropped from the Argentina squad.
