Oddo confirms Juve interest

Football Italia

Lazio defender Massimo Oddo has admitted that he may be playing for Juventus next season.

"The Bianconeri were already after me in the winter between December and January," said the right-back. "But then nothing came of it. There is still interest in me but I haven't heard anything from Lazio or my agent for the last few days."

The capital ace, who is part of Italy's Euro 2004 squad, is one of the peninsula's most attacking full-backs. He has been linked with numerous clubs in Italy and a move could occur given Lazio's uncertain financial future.

"I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if I remained in Rome but only if certain conditions are in place," he added. The former Verona player could be followed out of the Stadio Olimpico by the likes of Bernardo Corradi and Stefano Fiore.

Tottenham rival Juventus for Jankulovski

Tribal Football

Tottenham have expressed an interest in Udinese midfielder Marek Jankulovski. The 27 year-old Czech Republic international is the subject of an official approach from Juventus, but Spurs and Inter Milan are also chasing the midfielder.

Jankulovski is rated at £6.5 million by Udinese, which would prefer a straight cash deal rather than a player swap.

Juventus, Inter circle as Davids keeps Barcelona waiting

Tribal Football

Juventus and Inter Milan remain in the frame for Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids. Davids has verbally agreed terms with Barcelona over a three-year contract, worth £2.5 million-a-season - but is still to sign.

Juve coach Fabio Capello is a big fan of Davids and would welcome him back to Turin with open arms. If Juve fail to land AS Roma midfielder Emerson, then Capello will demand Juve director general Luciano Moggi offer Davids a return to the club.

Inter Milan remain in the mix and will try again if Davids drags out signing the contract put in front of him by Barca.

Barcelona nearing deadline for Trezeguet deal

Tribal Football

Barcelona has just over a month to find an agreement with Juventus striker David Trezeguet.

Marca says Trezeguet has given Barca until the middle of next month to sign him from Juve, or he will start negotiating with other clubs. Trezeguet has agreed personal terms with Barca on a £2 million-a-year contract.

Barca have offered Juve £6.5 million for the French international, but the Italians won't let him go for less than £14 million. Both clubs expect a compromise to be found, though Barca have asked Trezeguet not to comment on his future while negotiations are ongoing.

Roma chief makes offer for Auxerre's Mexes

Tribal Football

AS Roma director general Franco Baldini will be in France today for more talks over Auxerre defender Philippe Mexes. Baldini will meet Auxerre president Jean Claude Hamel and present him with a formal offer for the 22 year-old. Mexes has already agreed personal terms on a four-year deal.

Roma are prepared to pay £3.5 million for the French international, despite there being a dispute in his current contract which suggests he can leave Auxerre for just £1.4 million.

Baldini hopes to get a positive answer from the French club, which risks losing him for half what they're offering if the dispute goes to court.

Torres has Milan future

Football Italia

Milan are already at work in an attempt to sign Atletico Madrid ace Fernando Torres for the 2005/06 season. The 20-year-old is considered as one of Spain's most promising strikers and numerous clubs have been linked.

Manchester United and Juventus are monitoring his situation but the Rossoneri seem to be in pole position. That is because Atletico reportedly still owe Milan around £17m after signing Cosmin Contra and Javi Moreno in the past.

The Spanish side could cancel that debt by handing over the player who may eventually replace Pippo Inzaghi at the San Siro.

"There is a lot of talk about Milan," stated Torres. "I like them as they are a great side who are used to winning. My former teammate Demetrio Albertini has also told me that there is a great atmosphere within the club.

"Yet I'm just used to focusing on one season at a time. I know that I will be at Atletico next season, then we'll see what happens."

Zambrotta picks Trez

Football Italia

Gianluca Zambrotta has stated that he would love to see David Trezeguet remain at Juventus. Reports have suggested that the Frenchman will be replaced by Christian Vieri, but Zambrotta has praised his club mate.

"I've read that there is a good chance that he will stay. If that happens then I would be delighted," said the Italian left-back. "I've obviously seen the Vieri stories too but out of the two players I would pick David for all that he has done over the last few years."

Meanwhile, the former Bari player was also asked for his opinion on the shock arrival of Fabio Capello as his new boss.

"The prestige of Juventus has often seen the club attract great names and Capello is the latest," said Zambrotta. "I don't care what he has said about Juventus in the past. He just has to stimulate us and he is the right man for the job."

There is a good chance that Brazilian international Emerson will follow Capello to the Delle Alpi. "He would give us a helping hand in midfield," continued the Azzurri ace. "I like what the club is doing on the market even if group spirit is always key at our club."

Roma likely to net Gilardino

Football Italia

Parma ace Alberto Gilardino has revealed that Roma are in pole position to sign him this summer.

"I think there is a 60 per cent chance that the capital will be my next destination," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "There are two main reasons for that. They are in contact as they are interested and Cesare Prandelli is their new Coach."

The two men worked with each other at Parma last term as Gilardino exploded into a quality striker with 23 League goals. "It would be great to work with Prandelli again," added the Under-21 star. "He's allowed me to develop and he's always had great faith in me.

"He took me from Verona to Parma as a fourth striker when nobody was expecting much from me. It would also be great to be a part of such a wonderful squad with the likes of Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano."

However, Gilardino has also caught the attention of clubs such as Juventus, Man Utd, Real Madrid and Barcelona. "Juventus seem remote right now as they haven't been in touch since January," he added. "I also understand that Parma have received a fax from Real.

"I would obviously be delighted to move to Madrid and the same applies to Manchester too."

Gilardino is set to meet with the Parma officials soon and he's keen to know what his future holds. "I want to know what will happen," he stated. "I would happily stay if there were certain guarantees about the club's ownership. But I don't want to miss out on joining a big club."

Azzurri in media blast

Football Italia

The Azzurri squad have hit out at the Italian media for what Fabio Cannavaro has described as a lack of respect. The relationship between the players and the Press is becoming strained after a number of stories over the last few days.

The squad are believed to have been unhappy with the way Gennaro Gattuso's comments about Trap's tactics were reported, amongst other things.

"I'm here to speak for the whole squad," stated captain Cannavaro. "We've read things over the past couple of days that we haven't liked. We need to be respected.

"We've always been at the media's disposal but we are here to create and not to destroy something," he added. "If you want to give us a helping hand then that is fine, otherwise we will just go down our own path.

"We don't really want to stop talking to the media but we will consider that option if nothing changes."

Star man Francesco Totti is another player that hasn't been impressed by the journalists. "It is as if they want to split the squad," he said.

While Marco Di Vaio is unhappy with the way he's been treated after he was selected instead of Alberto Gilardino. "They've massacred me," stated the Juventus striker. "I haven't stolen anyone's place in the squad."

Roma youngster Antonio Cassano also notably failed to turn up for a scheduled Press conference earlier today.

Buffon rejects Real call

Football Italia

Gianluigi Buffon has revealed interest from Real Madrid, but insists he won't leave Turin anytime soon.

"Real have been enquiring after me for years now," explained the Italy goalkeeper, "but I don't think that my situation will push me to leave Juventus - not now and not in a year's time either."

The shot-stopper hit the big time as a teenager at Parma, then he became the world's most expensive goalie at £30m. His fortunes at Juve have been mixed, but Buffon remains a prime transfer target for the Spaniards and it was this week rumoured that Real were making a new bid.

"I have a long contract with Juventus," concluded the Azzurri star, "and I know this club has faith in me, so there is no reason to look elsewhere."

He becomes the second Serie A player to publicly reject a move to Real Madrid this week, as Emerson also made it perfectly clear he would only leave Roma for Juventus.

Juventus launch new 'Mondo Juve' complex

Tribal Football

Juventus have launched their new 'Mondo Juve' complex. The new training centre will house all the club's teams, allowing Juve's trainees to mix with their first team stars.

"It is beautiful to see everyone train together," admitted Juve vice-president Roberto Bettega. "The boys will have the chance every day to be in contact with our champions. A method that will benefit their development."

Juventus close to deal for Parma's Bonera

Tribal Football

Juventus are on the verge of signing Parma fullback Daniele Bonera. The Italy U21 international is reluctant to ask for a transfer, but has grown restless over the club's inability to find a solution to its massive financial problems.

Bonera would welcome a move to Juve, but won't rock the boat and is waiting for the Turin giants to make their interest known officially to Parma.

Juventus chief struggling in bid for new striker

Tribal Football

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi is failing in talks over a new striker. Moggi is chasing Inter Milan centre-forward Christian Vieri and Lecce's Javier Chevanton as he seeks to replace want-away Frenchman David Trezeguet.

But Inter's demands for Vieri are proving too steep for Juve, as is Lecce's £6.5 million asking price for Chevanton. Lecce are also demanding a 12-month loan of Fabrizio Miccoli, which has forced Moggi to put the deal on the backburner.

Juventus, Inter Milan alerted to Viduka availability

Tribal Football

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren remains confident he can land Leeds United striker Mark Viduka. Boro are offering £4 million for the Australia international, but face competition from Italy and Spain.

New Valencia coach Claudio Ranieri fancies bringing Viduka to the La Liga next season, while both Inter Milan and Juventus will be informed of the Australian's availability in a meeting today. An agent working on behalf of Viduka, Chris Page, is currently holding talks with Boro about a move to Teesside.

Alex: I'm as good as Totti

Football Italia

Alessandro Del Piero says he doesn't feel inferior to Italy's new star player Francesco Totti. The Roman was described as Italy's answer to Michel Platini by Giovanni Trapattoni yesterday, but the Juve ace feels he shouldn't be forgotten.

"I haven't got anything less than Totti," said Alex. "I'm not really taking Trap's comment into consideration anyway. Totti is Totti and I am Del Piero. We play in the same team and we must consider ourselves on the same level."

However, there is no doubt that people are expecting great things from Totti this summer rather than the Juve No 10. "I'm not affected by the praise that Totti is receiving," he insisted. "In fact, I'm pleased that people are not saying that it will be my tournament as I could spring a surprise."

Trap has stated that the Azzurri are a different proposition with Totti in the side, does Del Piero agree? "I don't know how we would play without him," he responded. "Francesco is a great player who is looking forward to making an impact."

Although the Coach feels that Totti is key, Del Piero seems sure of a starting shirt if the boss keeps faith with the 4-2-3-1 system. "Even if we don't play like that nothing will really change for me," insisted the 29-year-old. "I may feel more pressure from Cassano but that wouldn't cause a problem."

Del Piero also commented on Gennaro Gattuso's decision to criticise Trap for not considering him and Andrea Pirlo in his first team plans. "I think that you need to weigh up Gattuso's comments correctly. He was simply stating the fact that he is ready to play if needed," he added.

Alex concluded by commenting on rumours that David Trezeguet could remain at Juventus next season. "I haven't got any problems with David," he said. "Emerson? I hope that he arrives. There have already been some surprises this summer, starting with the appointment of Fabio Capello."

Meanwhile, Trap is set to select Mauro Camoranesi ahead of Stefano Fiore for their opening game against Denmark. The Azzurri played a practice match this morning with a team that should be selected next Monday.

Trap forgives Gattuso outburst

Football Italia

Giovanni Trapattoni has brushed aside Gennaro Gattuso's bitter criticism of his "absurd" tactics. "There will be no aftermath of these comments," assured the Italy Coach, "and it really isn't a problem. It is only normal that a player isn't happy to be on the bench and I respect his opinion."

The midfielder had slammed Trap's decision to ignore the successful Milan system, leaving himself and teammate Andrea Pirlo out of the line-up. "We are challenging for the European Championships now," warned the veteran, "so it is hardly the time to start experimenting."

It is not the first time that the players have shown their unhappiness with Trapattoni's decisions, as a similar problem emerged during the 2002 World Cup.

"As a Coach, I must control and ensure the harmony of the whole squad, so it is important that these issues are resolved between ourselves. Above all there must be respect for your teammates."

Gattuso is a fiery character, while Antonio Cassano is also reportedly frustrated at being left out in favour of Alessandro Del Piero.

"I am like a father for these lads," continued the former Juventus and Inter boss. "Sometimes in a family you get livelier members, but that doesn't mean you kick them out of the house. It is my job to discover every little detail that can work towards the good of the team."

Roma open Juve talks

Football Italia

Roma are reportedly ready to start talks with Juventus over the sale of star man Emerson. The midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Bianconeri but the move has stalled as Roma would rather sell him elsewhere.

It's understood that a fee has been agreed with Real Madrid but the player insists he only has eyes for Juventus. The Giallorossi don't have a great relationship with their great rivals but Emerson's contract situation will force a sale.

The former Bayer Leverkusen ace only has a year left on his contract which means the club must sell or risk losing him for nothing next summer. Given the fact that Emerson and his agent have repeatedly stated that they want a Juve move, Roma are set to negotiate a fee.

Real Madrid are believed to have offered £12m but the Turin giants are reportedly ready to only table an £8.5m bid. However, it is suggested that the capital outfit could accept that figure if Juventus promise to withdraw from the race to sign Alberto Gilardino.

The Parma striker has been linked with both clubs and new Roma boss Cesare Prandelli is keen to have the player at his disposal again. There is also the possibility that Juve could offer midfielder Manuele Blasi, who worked with Prandelli at Parma last term, as part of the deal too.

Juve forget Gilardino bid

Football Italia

Juventus may have dropped out of the race to sign Under-21 ace Alberto Gilardino from Parma. The Italian giants have been heavily associated with a summer swoop but that may no longer be the case.

"Their interest seems to have cooled over the last few months," revealed his agent Marcello Bonetto. "The main reason seems to be that they are after Christian Vieri of Inter and I'm not sure whether they want to buy both of them."

Gilardino is one of the hottest properties on the transfer market after a stunning campaign at the Stadio Tardini. He started the year as a substitute to Adriano but ended the season with 23 League goals.

He also played a key role in the Azzurrini's European Championship victory last night when he netted in the 3-0 win over Serbia. Gilardino, who was the joint top scorer at the Finals with four goals, could now be on his way to Roma.

Juve in Trez U-turn?

Football Italia

David Trezeguet may still be leading the Juventus attack next season after a call from new boss Fabio Capello. It was widely expected that the striker would be sold but he's ready to remain at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

"A lot of my recent comments have been misinterpreted," he told the Tuttosport newspaper. "My desire is to continue playing in the Bianconeri shirt.

"Capello has phoned me and asked whether I was ready and willing to work with him at the club. I was happy to be asked and I responded positively because I want to be a part of the Juventus project.

"I feel like a Juventino in every sense and I want to stay here in Turin for as long as possible."

However, problems remain between the player and the club seeing as his contract expires next summer. Talks over an extension have taken place but Juventus seem unlikely to meet his wage demands.

The club have also set their sights on signing Inter striker Christian Vieri, even if Real Madrid have joined the race too. Trezeguet is reportedly keen on a switch to Barcelona but the Nou Camp outfit have only offered £7m for him - Juve want double that amount.

Fabio won't snub Juve

Football Italia

Inter's Fabio Cannavaro has admitted that he would accept a summer move to Juventus. "Every player in the world would like to play for them. They are a great and prestigious club," he said. "How could anyone turn them down?"

The defender has been linked with the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit after the arrival of Fabio Capello as Coach. "I know that Capello rates me highly but it will be up to Inter to decide my future," added the 31-year-old.

The Nerazzurri are understood to be willing to release the former Parma man in exchange for Lilian Thuram. Juventus are looking for a new central defender after their nightmare defensive performances last term.

Meanwhile, one defender linked with the Old Lady isn't so keen on a move - for the time being. "I would love to join Juventus but only after I've played in Serie A for one year," said Alessandro Parisi. "That experience would allow me to compete for a first team shirt."

The Messina left-back, 27, has had a sensational season by helping the Sicilian club win promotion to the top-flight.

Inter Milan's Cannavaro welcomes Juventus interest

Tribal Football

Inter Milan defender Fabio Cannavaro has admitted he'd welcome a move to Juventus. The Italian international centre-half is a new target for Juve trainer Fabio Capello and declared last night: "Who wouldn't want to play for the Bianconero club?

"They're a great club, one of the most prestigious in the world. How could you refuse Juve? Look, I know that Capello is thinking about me, but it is Inter that must decide what happens."

Juventus consider Inter Milan's Almeyda

Tribal Football

Juventus are considering a shock move for Inter Milan midfielder Matias Almeyda. The 31 year-old Argentine is off contract and was expected to leave Italy to continue his career.

But Juve's problems in attempting to take Emerson away from AS Roma has forced their director general, Luciano Moggi, to seriously consider offering Almeyda a deal to come to Turin.

Almeyda will have to take a big wage-cut from his Inter contract to move to Juve, but the opportunity to be part of Fabio Capello's revolution will be tempting for the veteran

Totti crowned by Trap

Football Italia

Giovanni Trapattoni has made it clear that Italy can be inspired to Euro 2004 glory by Francesco Totti.

"There are important players in every team but nobody else has got Totti," stated boss Trapattoni. "France have Zinedine Zidane, England are counting on David Beckham, then there are people such as Manuel Rui Costa, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Pavel Nedved.

"Yet Francesco is our most important player, a man that can make the difference. There has never been an Italian player like him."

Totti has been likened to Milan legend Gianni Rivera in the past but Trap believes he has more in common with Michel Platini.

"He is to us what Platini was to France when they won the tournament in 1984," added the Coach. "He is a fundamental player because of his characteristics. Nobody in the world has his vision."

Totti - sporting a new hairstyle - trained this morning with the rest of his teammates, including Stefano Fiore and Christian Panucci who have recovered from injury.

"Fiore and Panucci are well," added the tactician. "The whole squad is in good physical and mental shape. We're on the right path.

"The big nations are always considered as the favourites but fitness is what really counts. Look at the last World Cup when France and Argentina were eliminated. Football today is a lot more balanced than in the past and your physical condition often makes the difference."

Trap concluded by responding to claims that some of his squad could be affected by various transfer rumours.

"I don't know if that is true," he explained. "I understand that they want to know about their futures but I'm sure they won't allow themselves to be distracted."

Gattuso guts Trap tactics

Football Italia

The first signs of trouble in the Azzurri camp emerged when Gennaro Gattuso called Giovanni Trapattoni's choices "absurd."

"It is absurd that the Italy squad cannot even attempt to emulate Milan's system," snapped the midfielder. "It seems strange that someone like Trap, who has 20 years of experience in football, could think in such banal terms."

The Rossoneri have won the Champions' League, Scudetto and Coppa Italia in the last two seasons with Andrea Pirlo's deep midfield role and Gennaro Gattuso as the main ball-winner. However, Trap has made it perfectly clear he won't switch to this 'rhombus' shaped midfield, preferring Inter's Cristiano Zanetti and Chievo man Simone Perrotta in a 4-2-3-1 system.

"The Coach makes his decisions and that's what he's paid for," continued Gattuso, "but I have just completed two brilliant seasons and have improved my technique."

Yet it seems that 'Rino' is even more upset at the exclusion of his club teammate.

"It is absurd not to see Pirlo in the first choice line-up, because he is the envy of many a European nation and is among the best both in terms of technique and tactical intelligence. He doesn't challenge for the ball in quite the same way as I do, but he makes up for that with his great vision."

Gattuso was left out of Trapattoni's side for several months after a row over his tactics, so the fiery former Glasgow Rangers man could be in for another battle during Euro 2004.

Prem duo in Ferrari chase

Football Italia

Parma captain Matteo Ferrari could be playing in the Premiership next season, according to reports. The Italian international is expected to leave the Stadio Tardini with Liverpool and Manchester United assessing bids.

Ferrari has been associated with a switch to Roma but that may now not occur due to the probable arrival of Philippe Mexes. The Auxerre stopper is close to moving to the capital and Roma's financial situation may not allow them to sign another central defender.

Liverpool and Man Utd are said to be keen on the former Inter player who has excelled over the last two seasons. Ferrari is now one of the peninsula's best youngsters and he is a part of Italy's Euro 2004 squad.

Man Utd, Liverpool linked with Ferrari contract offer

Tribal Football

An unnamed Premiership club has tabled an offer to Parma fullback Matteo Ferrari. Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the versatile defender since the end of the Serie A season. Skysports.com says the mystery suitors have offered the classy defender a five-year deal to lure him away from Parma.

Juventus confirm Barcelona offer for Trezeguet

Tribal Football

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has confirmed an offer has arrived from Barcelona for striker David Trezeguet. The French international's future now lies away from Juve, but Moggi is insisting he will only be sold to the club's satisfaction.

New Juve coach Fabio Capello has decided he doesn't want Trezeguet next season, but Moggi says the striker can sit in the stands rather than see him be sold on the cheap.

"Barça has offered us £6.5 million," confirmed the Juve director, "but we want at least double that quantity. The negotiations at the moment are positive, but we will only sell our player on our conditions."

Juventus chief: We want Totti in Turin

Tribal Football

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has admitted he'd love to bring AS Roma captain Francesco Totti to Turin. "My great ambition, something that would appeal to me, would be to bring Italy's greatest footballer, Francesco Totti, to Turin," declared Moggi yesterday.

He also revealed: "The directors wanted to sign coach Fabio Capello, but Agnelli didn't want him. His idea was to go for Didier Deschamps."

Moggi also contradicted Capello's comments that he didn't influence Jonathan Zebina's move to Juve from AS Roma. "Oh, yes, he asked for the Frenchman," insisted Moggi. "He also asked for Emerson before we made his arrival official.

"Vieri? His signing is, alone, a matter for the directors."

Capello wants Cannavaro

Football Italia

Juventus and Inter are not just talking about Christian Vieri, as a Lilian Thuram and Fabio Cannavaro swap is being discussed.

New Juve boss Fabio Capello is keen on Cannavaro and negotiations are believed to have commenced. The tactician already wanted the Italian international at Roma in the past but the stopper joined Inter from Parma instead.

The Nerazzurri are willing to release the Azzurri captain if they get Thuram in exchange for the 31-year-old. Thuram has said in the past that he would like to see out his deal in Turin but he could be tempted by a San Siro switch.

Especially after a turbulent campaign last season in which he admitted he was perhaps in the worst form of his life.

In other Juve transfer news, there could be a new development in their bid to net Emerson. Roma don't want to sell the Brazilian to their rivals but the player insists that he will only sign for the Old Lady.

Juventus could now offer cash and the services of Manuele Blasi in an effort to reach a capital agreement. The Giallorossi may accept given the fact that Blasi worked under new boss Cesare Prandelli at Parma last term.

Juve could keep Trez

Football Italia

David Trezeguet's agent insists that the player is ready to remain at Juventus but the club don't want him.

"They are looking to sell him to a number of sides across Europe but he is ready to stay," stated his father who is also his representative. "David has a good rapport with the fans and he is happy with his life in Turin. He could stay but that will be up to the club officials."

Juventus are looking to sell the striker, who has just a year left on his contract, after no agreement was reached over an extension. The former Monaco man has been linked with numerous clubs but he has just one destination on his mind.

"If David is forced to leave then he's already decided that he wants to join Barcelona," added Trezeguet senior.

However, there are problems in the proposed switch as no agreement has been reached between the two clubs. Barca have offered around £7m but the Italian giants value the French international at £14m.

That figure seems too steep for the Nou Camp outfit who have now reportedly decided to target Majorca's Samuel Eto'o instead. Trez has also been associated with a transfer to Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid in the past.

Real Madrid make offer for Inter Milan's Vieri

Tribal Football

Real Madrid have approached Inter Milan for centre-forward Christian Vieri. The Madrid giants have indicated they're ready to offer £10 million for the 31 year-old, who is also the subject of intense negotiations involving Juventus.

Real's Italian agent, Ernesto Bronzetti, is said to have tabled the bid. The representative was the main influence on Vieri's 1997 move from Juventus to Atletico Madrid.

Roma ace Cassano snubs contract talks

Tribal Football

AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano has shelved talks over a new contract. The Italy international's current deal runs to 2006 and has put AC Milan, Juventus and long time admirers Manchester United on red alert.

Roma president Franco Sensi and director general Franco Baldini had intimated to Cassano's advisors that they wanted to sit down and open talks over a new contract extension. But Cassano wants to wait and see if Roma are competitive next season, with their cash problems having already seen several players leave.

Roma won't sell Cassano this summer, but will have to invite offers for the exciting young striker at the end of next season - or risk losing him for nothing. Milan have already tabled a £16 million offer for the youngster, but Roma have rejected that out of hand.

Gilardino keen on Roma

Football Italia

Parma sensation Alberto Gilardino has admitted that he would welcome a summer move to Roma. The Under-21 international has been heavily linked with the Giallorossi and the striker is keen on a capital switch.

"I'm ready to consider any interesting offers which would allow me to take a step up in level," he said. "I read that Roma are interested in me and the idea of becoming a Giallorosso fascinates me.

"To play alongside Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano would be a dream for any player. Roma is a great club with fans who adore football and the team."

Gilardino has become one of the most targeted players in Italian football after his 23 League goals last term. He is expected to be sold by the Gialloblu given the club's financial problems and Roma could be his next destination.

Some reports suggest that the Olimpico outfit will offer around £12m in the hope of signing Gilardino and teammate Matteo Ferrari.

Udinese eye Sculli option

Football Italia

Udinese are interested in signing Under-21 ace Giuseppe Sculli for the new Serie A campaign. The departure of Carsten Jancker means that they are looking for a new striker and Sculli is an option.

The youngster, who is owned by Juventus, spent last season on loan at Chievo but didn't really shine. However, he's currently underlining his undoubted potential at the U-21 European Championship Finals in Germany.

Sculli had hoped to return to Turin for the new season but that looks doubtful given the stiff competition for places. The Italian giants are more likely to use him as a part exchange tool during the summer transfer window.

Whispers suggest that Udinese are keen on having him included in the proposed deal that could see Marek Jankulovksi leave the Stadio Friuli for Juve.

Trap expects Azzurri success

Football Italia

Italy have flown out to Lisbon for Euro 2004 and boss Giovanni Trapattoni is in confident mood.

"I've packed plenty of clothes because I don't expect our stay in Portugal to be short," he said after this morning's training session. "The boys have demonstrated that they are a competitive and motivated side. I have 23 of them and I have some excellent alternatives in all roles."

There were a couple of injury concerns in the Azzurri camp but both Christian Panucci and Stefano Fiore have recovered. "They are fit," added Trap. "This time I have no players who have suffered long spells on the treatment table.

"All of the players have shown me how important the national shirt is to them as our recent fitness tests have illustrated. They are in much better shape than before the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan."

Italy are considered as one of the favourites to win the tournament and Trap was asked to predict who he believed would reach the last eight.

"I think that Portugal and Spain should get through from Group A, then France and England, plus Denmark and obviously us. Then there is Holland, the Czech Republic and Germany in what many believe is the group of death.

"If we can get past the quarter final stage then I believe that we could go all of the way."

Trap was also asked whether Parma youngster Alberto Gilardino could have been of use given his exploits at the Euro U-21 Finals. "He is a player with a great future," he answered. The striker was left out of the squad as Trap decided to opt for Juventus' Marco Di Vaio instead after Pippo Inzaghi was left out because of injury.

Roma close to Mexes

Football Italia

Philippe Mexes will become a Roma player just as soon as a transfer fee is agreed with Auxerre. The defender has been linked with numerous sides across Europe but his agent insists he's on the verge of joining the Giallorossi.

"Roma have offered Philippe an interesting sporting proposition," his agent Olivier Jouanneaux told BBC Sport. "There is a four-year deal on the table and we're now just waiting for Roma to reach an agreement with Auxerre."

The French club seem set to lose the 22-year-old and have already signed Rene Bolf from Banik Ostrava to replace him. Although Mexes was wanted by former Roma boss Fabio Capello, the player seems keen to link up with new man Cesare Prandelli.

"Philippe wants to play under a Coach with a strong personality who will help him become a regular in the French national team," added Jouanneaux.

Mexes, who has six caps to his name, just missed out on making the Euro 2004 squad. He should cost around £5m. The stopper, also linked with Liverpool and Manchester United, has been targeted by the Italians after Walter Samuel joined Real Madrid.

Barca "must double" Trez bid

Football Italia

Juve transfer guru Luciano Moggi admits David Trezeguet has a deal with Barcelona, but the Spaniards must double their current cash offer.

"They are offering us £6.6m," revealed the Director General, "and we want at least £13m, so right now the negotiations are at a standstill. Trezeguet already has an agreement with Barca, but we'll only sell him on our terms."

The rapport between Trezeguet and Juventus has been deteriorating for several months and his contract, which expires in 2005, has not been renewed.

The Frenchman was furious that his wages were not taken to the same level as captain Alessandro Del Piero, while the club considered his many injuries and disappointing work rate to be a problem.

"Juve gave me their word and cannot act in this manner," Trezeguet had told a newspaper last week. "To replace me they need to find a striker who can score 20 goals a season, and that isn't so easy nowadays."

New Coach Fabio Capello would prefer a stronger English-style centre-forward for his system and they are in talks to bring back Christian Vieri from Inter.

Meanwhile, it is well known that Trezeguet has reached a basic agreement with Barcelona for a four-year contract worth £2m a season, plus bonus payments for success in the Liga, Champions' League and Copa del Rey.

Kapo sent straight to Monaco?

Football Italia

It's reported that new Juventus signing Olivier Kapo will be loaned out to Monaco for a year before he can wear the Bianconeri jersey.

The French international was snapped up on a free transfer after his contract with Auxerre expired, but the club only went for him on Didier Deschamps' advice.

The Monaco boss was at the time thought to be the replacement for Marcello Lippi, but Juve shocked everyone by bringing in Fabio Capello instead.

New tactician Capello is seemingly unimpressed by Kapo, so the 23-year-old midfielder will be loaned out to Deschamps at Monaco for a year.

Villarreal reach deal for Juventus target Rodriguez

Tribal Football

Villarreal have beaten Juventus and Inter Milan for San Lorenzo defender Gonzalo Rodriguez.

Club chief Jose Manuel Llaneza met with Rodriguez and his agent in a Villarreal hotel on Saturday to thrash out terms, with the meeting ending with Rodriguez having verbally agreed a deal.

A weekend break in the Argentine championship allowed the San Lorenzo youngster to jet to Spain and meet with Villarreal officials face-to-face.

Rodriguez almost joined Juventus in January and has also been recommended to Inter Milan by their South American scout Luis Suarez.

Roma favourites for Auxerre's Mexes

Tribal Football

AS Roma are favourites to land Auxerre's young French international defender Philippe Mexes.

The Frenchman has also been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, but its emerged Roma are working with Mexes' representatives to find a way of getting him a release from his Auxerre contract.

The French club are demanding £4 million for the young stopper, but Roma's lawyers are convinced they can find a loophole which will grant him a Bosman.

Man Utd keeping tabs on Ferrari

Tribal Football

Manchester United haven't given up on the potential signing of Parma centre-half Matteo Ferrari.

The Italian international is a confirmed target for United, where chief scout Martin Ferguson has watched the youngster several times last season.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson also made a personal check on Ferrari, who insists he won't demand a move from Parma over the summer.

AS Roma are favourites to sign the versatile defender, having just appointed Cesare Prandelli as coach from Parma.

Chelsea's Abramovich fails in Nedved, Ronaldinho bids

Tribal Football

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has admitted defeat in his bid to sign Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved and Barcelona ace Ronaldinho.

The Russian tycoon tried unsuccessfully last week to land both players, with Nedved rejecting outright a move to Stamford Bridge, while Ronaldinho told Abramovich that he had given his word to Barca that he wouldn't leave the Nou Camp for at least another season.

Despite new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's call for a smaller squad, Abramovich has been active at the top end of the European transfer market over the past fortnight and also lodged a £35 million offer with AC Milan for striker Andrei Shevchenko.

Chelsea leave £10M offer with Marseille for Drogba

Tribal Football

Chelsea have made a 'take it or leave it' £10 million offer to Olympique Marseille for striker Didier Drogba.

The People says Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has stepped into the negotiations for the powerful hit-man and wants to bid LESS than the French club thought they were getting.

Chelsea's wheeler-dealers met Marseille officials two weeks ago and were quoted £15m for the forward who topped the charts in France and shook up Liverpool and Newcastle in Europe.

Bolton to make offer for Juventus striker Zalayeta

Tribal Football

Bolton Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce is being linked with Juventus striker Marcelo Zalayeta. The Uruguay international has been tracked by Allardyce for over a year and is surplus to requirements at Juve for next season.

The News of the World says Bolton are prepared to shatter their transfer record to land the striker upon his return from international duty.

Birmingham, Portsmouth step up talks for Juventus defender Tudor

Tribal Football

Juventus defender Igor Tudor has attracted approaches from two Premiership clubs. The News of the World says Birmingham City and Portsmouth have both enquired about the Croatia international, who has been told by Juve he is free to find another club.

Tudor has also held talks with new Feyenoord coach Ruud Gullit, but those close to the defender say he fancies a move to the Premiership.

Juventus rival Middlesbrough for Viduka

Tribal Football

New Juve coach Fabio Capello is a big fan of the Australian and is eyeing the burly centre-forward as a replacement for David Trezeguet. Trezeguet is set to join Barcelona over the summer, forcing Capello to line up alternatives with Viduka and fellow Aussie Christian Vieri of Inter Milan his top two targets.

Viduka's agent, Chris Page, is due on Teesside on Monday for talks with Middlesbrough. Boro were granted permission by Leeds to speak with Viduka last week

Roma prepare Mexes swoop

Football Italia

Philippe Mexes held extensive talks with the Giallorossi and could complete his switch on Monday, where Matteo Ferrari would join him. The defender has been a long-term transfer target for Roma, although the last time he was in negotiations with the club it was also with Coach Fabio Capello.

Despite the change in management with the arrival of Parma's Cesare Prandelli, Mexes reaffirmed that he is intent on joining the Stadio Olimpico outfit.

The only stumbling block now is his current club Auxerre, who have set a price-tag of approximately £5.6m, whereas Roma are only prepared to pay around £3.5m. Mexes is embroiled in a legal battle over his contract with the French side, as he maintains that he can buy his way out for just over £3m.

If the Giallorossi make a formal offer to Auxerre of somewhere in-between the two figures, then the deal could be completed as early as Monday.

Another defensive reinforcement is likely to be Matteo Ferrari, who is currently preparing for Euro 2004.

"I would be happy and proud to continue working with Prandelli," revealed the Parma defender. "I know that something is happening behind the scenes between my club and Roma, while Antonio Cassano has given me advice on where to buy a house in the Capital."

Arsenal linked as agent says Roma still in Mexes mix

Tribal Football

The agent of Auxerre defender Philippe Mexes says the departure of Fabio Capello from AS Roma won't influence the Frenchman's decision over where he will be playing next season.

Roma are amongst a clutch of clubs in talks with Mexes and his agent, Olivier Jouanneaux, told Radio Azzurra: "The departure of Capello makes no difference. He's left and a great coach has arrived in Cesare Prandelli.

"I can't say there is an agreement with Roma, because nothing exists. In the next few days Mexes will make his decision.

"Roma have offered us a contract. But we also have crazy offers from one English club and another Italian one. The English offer is 40 per cent higher than Roma's, the other Italian one is 20 per cent greater.

"But that's not so important as Mexes wants to join a club where he will be playing regularly and challenging for honours."

The two clubs believed to be in the frame alongside Roma are Arsenal and Inter Milan.

Zizou tips Totti for Euro glory

Football Italia

Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane believe that Italy are the favourites for Euro 2004, with Francesco Totti as the danger man.

"Unfortunately," predicted former Juventus hero Platini, "I believe that France will be beaten in the Final by Italy."

The last European Championship Final was also between these two sides, but in 2000 it was a Golden Goal from David Trezeguet that tipped the scales in France's favour.

"I am not making this statement because my origins are Italian, but looking at the teams and their obstacles I'd say the Azzurri have a great squad."

Another ex-Bianconeri man also tipped Giovanni Trapattoni's men for the trophy this summer.

"The whole world knows that Totti is a player who makes the difference," noted Zidane. "I just hope that the Championships in Portugal are remembered for Thierry Henry's contribution and not Totti's."

Emerson set for U-turn over Real Madrid

Tribal Football

Real Madrid are on the verge of signing AS Roma midfielder Emerson. The two clubs reached agreement over a £11 million transfer fee for the Brazilian international on Thursday. Talks were then reopened between the player and Real.

Earlier this week, Emerson pulled out of negotiations with Real as he had his heart set on following coach Fabio Capello to Juventus.

But Roma's frosty relationship with Juve means any agreement between the two clubs was highly unlikely. Only yesterday, Roma president Franco Sensi declared: "I'll die before I sell one of our players to Juventus."

There are only two solutions for Emerson - to accept Real's offer or remain with Roma next season.

"I want you to only remember that an agreement between Madrid and Roma already exists," said Real representative Ernesto Bronzetti. "It seems strange to me Emerson wishes to become the first player in the world to reject a club like Madrid."

Emerson to decide tomorrow on Real Madrid switch

Tribal Football

Real Madrid will hold a fresh round of talks with Emerson on Monday regarding the AS Roma midfielder's move to the Santiago Bernabeu. The Brazilian international is said to have signed a pre-contract with Juventus, but Roma are refusing to do business with their bitter rivals.

Real and Roma have agreed a fee of £11 million for Emerson, with the deal hinging on the player agreeing to move. Roma director general Franco Baldini will discuss the situation with Emerson over the next 24 hours, whose contract offer from Juve is worth £2.5 million-a-year.

Italian agent Ernesto Bronzzeti, who is representing Real in negotiations, said: "Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is a gentleman and has great power. This was shown when he convinced Samuel to join Madrid instead of Chelsea.

"When Florentino decides he wants a player, he gets him."

AC Milan scout Maldini: Torres is a phenomenon

Tribal Football

AC Milan technical scout Cesare Maldini has been open on the young stars he is keeping an eye going into the new season.

Maldini has spent the past six months travelling the globe checking on potential transfer targets for the Serie A champs and revealed to Tuttosport that Atletico Madrid ace Fernando Torres, Sao Paulo striker Luis Fabiano and Stuttgart midfielder Alex Hleb were three players he is following.

"I've seen just about all the best players in circulation," said Maldini, "Fernando Torres is ready to explode - just as Kaka did for Milan last season. He is an absolute phenomenon.

"Others who are think we will become champions are Alexandr Hleb, the fantastic Belorussian at Stuttgart and Luis Fabiano, the dominating centre-forward of Sao Paulo."

Sao Paulo urge Barcelona to bid again for Fabiano

Tribal Football

Sao Paulo have left the door open to Barcelona to make a new bid for star striker Luis Fabiano. The Brazilian international was the subject of a £7 million offer from Barca president Joan Laporta last week, while he was in the country.

Initially, Sao Paulo had claimed they felt "insulted" by Barca's offer, but last night a spokesman admitted: "The player is not for sale and does not have a price. Although, if Barcelona want to make an offer, then they should do it."

Laporta also said last night: "We have tried one offer, but Sao Paulo wasn't interested. But we are going to assess the situation and try again."

Fabiano admitted: "That the Barcelona president was here is very important to me. The fact that negotiations are still open is exciting for me."

Capello: I am no traitor

Football Italia

Fabio Capello has called a press conference to reveal the reasons behind his sudden switch to Roma's archrivals Juventus.

"If I had joined another club that wasn't Juve," he explained, "then there would have been none of this controversy. Several different sides contacted me, but the only one that made a concrete offer was Juventus. Evidently this was an unpopular decision."

The Giallorossi fans - and several players - were outraged that Capello chose to join their long-standing rivals. Above all, they were shocked at just how quickly the move was completed.

"I didn't run away from Roma," insisted the Coach from his holiday home in Madrid. "This is a challenge for me and I am trying to test myself in a different arena."

In a previous interview he had hinted that the massive financial problems in the Capital were behind his desire to walk away.

"I thank President Franco Sensi for giving me the opportunity to work in a great city and with a club that I shared many happy times with. The decision to leave Roma was forming itself in my mind throughout the last year."

The rapport between Sensi and Capello has never been an easy one and there was a bitter row last summer that almost saw them part company. Now that he is set to be joined by Emerson and Jonathan Zebina, the tension at next season's Roma-Juve games is going to be sky high.

"We are all responsible for the climate of tension in today's football," noted Capello after the shocking scenes that accompanied the Rome derby. "We give too much importance to things that simply don't deserve all this analysis."

Some believe that the Giallorossi could fall apart without their charismatic Coach, but Capello is confident that his successor Cesare Prandelli can fill his shoes.

"Roma will create a competitive squad, as I know Director General Franco Baldini well. When the two Capital clubs have really put the effort in, they were capable of winning titles. The truth is that you need great players to win and everyone contributed to our success."

Emerson rejects new Real bid

Football Italia

Emerson has again confirmed he will only join Juventus, so it's reported Real Madrid have turned their attention towards Christian Vieri.

"We have an agreement with Juve," agent Gilmar Veloz told Spanish newspaper 'Marca', "and it will be respected. Roma told us that in July we could choose his next club and we have chosen Juventus."

His contract expires in 2005, but the Giallorossi need to sell the Brazilian in order to raise ready cash. The Capital club has a long-standing rivalry with Juve and have accepted a basic £12m offer from Real Madrid instead.

"We had a brief meeting with Real President Florentino Perez on May 21," revealed Veloz, "and he understood the situation. Any player would be happy to join Real Madrid, but we cannot break our word to Juventus."

Roma could effectively dig their heels in over the issue and refuse to release the Brazilian midfielder until his contract expires in 2005, even if that means losing out on money and his performance.

"Roma can offer him to Inter, Real or whoever, it really doesn't matter," concluded his agent. "If Emerson has to sit on the bench for a year, then we will wait it out, but he will play for Juventus eventually."

Met with such a stern response from their number one midfield target, Real Madrid are now reportedly turning their attention towards Christian Vieri.

The Inter striker is at the centre of talks for a move to Juventus, as confirmed by Director General Luciano Moggi, but there are problems between the two clubs.

Real could now intercept with an offer of £10.6m plus a three-year contract worth £5m a season.

Vieri and Ronaldo had always publicly regretted the fact they hardly ever shared the field during their time at Inter due to a series of injuries for both players, but they could reunite at the Bernabeu.

The Italian international is not new to La Liga, as he was top scorer during his one campaign with Atletico Madrid.

Juve confirm Vieri talks

Football Italia

Juventus transfer guru Luciano Moggi has announced that negotiations for Christian Vieri are in progress.

"There is an obstacle in our path to Vieri," revealed the Director General, "and it is an economic one."

Moggi is traditionally tight-lipped about transfer stories and only last month kept pundits guessing on Juve's new Coach until he unveiled Fabio Capello as the man in charge. The press speculation about the Bianconeri holding talks with Inter were brushed off by patron Massimo Moratti, but this time the Turin giants are not hiding their intentions.

"I will visit Forte dei Marmi to eat some nice fish soup," he smiled, "but I won't tell you who my dinner companion will be."

It is well known that Inter chief Moratti is currently at the Tuscan seaside resort for a holiday, so more negotiations to whittle down the final details will take place over the weekend.

Moggi was also interviewed as he visited the Coverciano training ground, where the Italy squad is preparing for Euro 2004. He was officially invited along with several other club directors by the FIGC, but it's reported he took the opportunity to discuss his plans with Vieri.

When told that the striker had insisted in a press conference that he knew nothing of negotiations for a move, Moggi made one of his traditional sly remarks.

"For a move to go through you need the acceptance of three parties: the player and both clubs. Those who say nothing are tacitly accepting a situation, so Juve are staying silent. Seeing as Inter are also refusing to comment, I'll assume they are also making a statement of acceptance."

Valencia request Chevanton

Football Italia

Lecce have confirmed that Javier Ernesto Chevanton is of interest to Valencia, but deny a deal has been completed. The Uruguayan hitman set a new record for Lecce this season by bagging 19 Serie A goals, but the small club was always set to sell him on this summer.

He had up until now been linked with several Italian sides, most notably Lazio, Milan, Palermo and Juventus, but latest reports suggest he is on his way to La Liga.

"Over the last few days Valencia have contacted us to enquire after Chevanton," revealed director of sport Pantaleo Corvino, "but there is nothing more than that. He certainly has not been sold."

It's believed that Chevanton was specifically requested by Claudio Ranieri, who was fired by Chelsea last week and is ready for a return to Valencia.

The pacey 23-year-old's price tag had been set at around £10m by Lecce at the end of the current campaign, but Juve seemed to drop their interest in favour of Christian Vieri.

He first set foot in Europe with Lecce in August 2001 following three seasons in his homeland with Danubio.

Meanwhile, Lecce are expected to bring in Inter's promising fullback Giovanni Pasquale on loan next season. It is also increasingly likely that their new Coach will be Zdenek Zeman following Delio Rossi's departure.

Trap optimistic on Italy chances

Football Italia

The experimental friendly games have filled Giovanni Trapattoni with confidence and he praised the front three of Totti, Vieri and Del Piero.

"I saw a particularly impressive rapport between Francesco Totti, Alessandro Del Piero and Christian Vieri," noted the tactician after they beat the Under-17 international squad 7-0. "These three managed to maintain great intensity, a good tempo and some wonderful first touch football. I am optimistic for Euro 2004, as this side belongs in the top four."

It now seems certain that the Juventus captain will be in the starting eleven to face Denmark on June 14.

"My only worry is that not everyone can maintain these fitness levels, which right now are optimal. I am very satisfied with the performances and saw today that when Totti has a striker in front of him he definitely plays better."

However, Trap was quick to point out that his mind is not closed off to new ideas, and he even tried a 4-3-3 system with Andrea Pirlo in a deep midfield role.

"The press should not leap to conclusions about the starting line-up, as there are set roles, but not players with a guaranteed spot in the side. I had to try out some alternative systems, although Pirlo's role in that rhombus midfield can easily be taken by Gennaro Gattuso."

There were also fears that the transfer speculation over his possible switch to Juventus could distract Christian Vieri.

"I spoke to him about the situation," revealed Trapattoni, "but it doesn't seem as if these rumours are troubling him. I saw a determined player who was focused in front of goal."

Trap experiments new Pirlo role

Football Italia

In all 17 Italy goals were scored in two separate mini friendly matches this afternoon, but the new 4-3-3 formation was a surprise to observers. Giovanni Trapattoni took the opportunity to test out different tactical systems, using the 4-4-2 in the first game against local side Tamai and an ambitious 4-3-3 to face the Under-17 Italy squad.

The opening encounter mainly involved the 'reserve' players and concluded with a rotund 10-0 scoreline. Bernardo Corradi and Marco Di Vaio were the stars with a hat-trick apiece, while Roma's Antonio Cassano confirmed his fine form with a brace and three assists. The other scorers were Mauro Camoranesi and an Andrea Pirlo penalty.

Pirlo was also in the second outfit that beat the Under-17 squad 7-0 later that afternoon in another 80-minute encounter. This was a particularly intriguing test, as Trap fielded an experimental 4-3-3 system with Pirlo in a deep midfield role, allowing Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero to move closer to Christian Vieri upfront.

Although Vieri hit the headlines with four goals, three of which were set up by Totti, the crowd was impressed by Del Piero's contribution. The Juventus captain scored a magnificent strike before thumping the woodwork twice. Totti and Simone Perrotta were also on target.

The only players who didn't take part in either of these games were Stefano Fiore, Christian Panucci and Gianluigi Buffon, as they are struggling with minor fitness worries. One man took part in all 140 minutes of football was Lazio fullback Massimo Oddo.

Italy 10-0 Tamai. Scorers: Corradi (3), Di Vaio (3), Cassano (2), Camoranesi (1), Pirlo (1, pen)

Italy: Peruzzi; Oddo, Ferrari, Materazzi, Favalli; Camoranesi, Gattuso, Pirlo, Di Vaio; Corradi, Cassano

Italy 7-0 Italy U-17. Scorers: Vieri (4), Del Piero (1), Totti (1), Perrotta (1)

Italy: Toldo; Oddo, Nesta, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Perrotta, Zanetti, Camoranesi (Pirlo 35); Totti, Del Piero, Vieri

Camoranesi considers Juve status

Football Italia

Juventus are at the centre of several transfer stories and Mauro German Camoranesi now admits his future is also in doubt.

"I am not certain to still be in a Bianconeri jersey next season," confessed the Italian international. "Right now that isn't of interest to me, as it is my duty to concentrate on Euro 2004."

The Argentine-born winger had been heavily linked to Inter last summer when he was publicly admonished for turning up late to pre-season training, while he has not impressed during the current campaign.

"I have another three years on my contract," assured the ex-Verona man, "and never let transfer speculation get to me. I only ever worried about what would happen when Hellas were relegated."

Nonetheless, he does admit that it would be an incentive to stay in Turin if Christian Vieri completed his proposed switch from Inter.

"Vieri is a very important player," concluded Camoranesi, "and one that everyone would like in their team."

Transfer talk stuns Vieri

Football Italia

Christian Vieri says he hasn't asked to quit Inter but he's left the door open for a summer exit. Juventus are in talks with the Nerazzurri regarding the striker but he claims to know nothing about the negotiations.

"I've not requested to leave Inter and I still have two years left on my contract. But if Inter want to sell me then that is a different matter," he said on Friday. "I haven't spoken with the club since the end of the season and I've not heard from Massimo Moratti for about a month.

"When I left they didn't seem set to let me go but if they've change their minds then they will have to inform me."

Has Vieri been tempted to call the club for some answers? "I have no need to contact them," he added. "I haven't asked to be sold and if Inter want to keep me then I won't be moving, not to join Juventus or any other club."

Some reports suggested that Inter could have announced his sale to the Bianconeri as quickly as last night. However, the only news that they broke on Thursday evening was that of the loan signing of Juan Sebastian Veron.

"I'm very happy that he has arrived because he's a great champion," continued the former Atletico Madrid ace. When asked whether he knew about the capture before it was announced, the Italian international replied: "No, but that is not unusual. It's not my job to strengthen the team."

Juve's Vieri bid stalls

Football Italia

Christian Vieri's transfer from Inter to Juventus may take longer than expected after a number of problems developed. The Italian media were convinced that a deal was done but Vieri has allegedly rejected Juve's initial offer.

The Turin giants have offered the striker a four-year contract worth £2.8m a season. However, he currently nets £5m at Inter and he still has two years left in Milan. Juventus don't really want to increase their bid but they may be forced to if they want to net the 31-year-old.

However, it is also understood that the two clubs have yet to finalise definite terms on a transfer. Inter have agreed to take Marco Di Vaio from Turin as part of the deal and the player has given his consent to the move.

But the Nerazzurri also want another player, reported to be Lilian Thuram or Manuele Blasi. Yet Juve seem ready to offer only Enzo Maresca, who wouldn't be needed by Inter after the capture of Juan Veron, and Uruguayan international 'keeper Fabian Carini.

Meanwhile, stories on Friday also claim that the two clubs are working on another swap deal. Inter defender Marco Materazzi could be heading to the Delle Alpi in a move that sees Mark Iuliano go in the other direction.
