Capello is new Juve boss - Official

Football Italia

Juventus have officially confirmed that their Coach for the next three seasons will be Fabio Capello as Roma's collapse continues.

The club had been expected to name its new tactician as Didier Deschamps or Parma's Cesare Prandelli some time this week following the departure of Marcello Lippi. But few predicted this turn of events, as Capello had instead been linked with the post at Inter.

The official Juventus website confirmed the news this morning, adding that he had put pen to paper on a three-year contract. Although no financial details were revealed, the Italian press maintains that Capello has accepted a pay cut to earn just over £2m per season.

The tactician will turn 48 next month and is a former Juventus player, winning three Scudetto's with the club. He is one of the country's most successful Coaches with League titles won at Milan, Real Madrid and Roma. In his management career he has picked up six Championships, the Champions' League and European Supercup.

This deal has been kept extremely quiet and it's now believed that the talk of Deschamps was merely a smokescreen while Director General Luciano Moggi performed his magic behind the scenes.

It is a particularly shocking move, as Capello had only last year revealed he rejected the opportunity to take over Juventus in the past as "a lifestyle choice." He was also still under contract with the Capital club, but was able to free himself a year early due to late payments.

This is the latest disastrous blow for Roma supporters, as they have already waved goodbye to Walter Samuel, Francisco Lima and Jonathan Zebina - the Frenchman also joining Juve. Now that Capello has switched to their archrivals, it will put captain Francesco Totti's position at the Stadio Olimpico into real doubt.

However, there was also bad news for the Bianconeri, as during the night Honorary President Umberto Agnelli passed away at the age of 69.

New deal for Di Vaio

Football Italia

Marco Di Vaio won't be leaving Juventus as he actually expects to have his contract renewed this summer. The former Parma man has been linked with an exit after failing to break into the Bianconeri first team. However, the Italian international maintains that his immediate future will be with the Old Lady.

"Juventus have promised me that we will extend my agreement after the European Championships," he said. "My current contract runs up until the summer of 2008 but I'm ready to put pen to paper yet again."

Di Vaio, who is part of the Azzurri's Euro 2004 squad, has been linked with a move to Inter or Roma.

"If the club decided to sell me then they would have to sit me down to talk about it," continued the 27-year-old. "For someone who plays for Juventus there aren't too many options to stay in Italy. In fact there are only two, Milan and Inter."

Cheva dreaming of Juve

Football Italia

Lecce striker Ernesto Chevanton has reacted with delight after hearing that Juventus are interested in him.

"I'm already imagining myself with the Bianconeri shirt and it would be a dream to join them," he said from Uruguay's training camp. "My international teammate Paolo Montero often talks about Juve and they would be the best option for me."

Reports that Juventus had made enquiries about the forward, who netted 19 League goals in the past campaign, first emerged last night. Whispers suggest that Lecce want around £9m plus the one season loan of Lecce-born ace Fabrizio Miccoli.

"If this story turns out to be true and Juventus do want me then I would swim back to Italy," added the 24-year-old.

It's unclear whether the Turin giants are willing to release Miccoli who did just miss out on a place in the Euro 2004 squad. Juve are reportedly keener to offer Lecce cash and the services of youngsters Viktor Boudianski and Felice Piccolo instead.

The Old Lady of Italian football are looking for a new striker given the fact that David Trezeguet is likely to be sold.

Trez hits out at Juve

Football Italia

David Trezeguet's Juventus career looks over after the Frenchman blasted the Italian giants.

"The club gave me their word but they haven't maintained their promise," said the striker from France's Euro 2004 training base. "They shouldn't act in such a way. I've demonstrated my worth and now it is up to them to meet my demands."

Trezeguet was probably making reference to the fact that he hasn't been offered an improved deal by the club. The former Monaco man is only tied to the Delle Alpi outfit until 2005 but talks over an extension have stalled.

That has led to numerous reports that Trez, who allegedly only earns the same amount as defender Mark Iuliano, will be sold this summer. But it doesn't seem as if the international is heading for the exit quietly, insisting that he will be missed if he does leave.

"I feel as good as ever," he added. "There is talk of Fernando Morientes and Alberto Gilardino joining the club. But whoever takes my place in the side will have to score 20 goals a season and that won't be easy."

It's understood that Trezeguet will either join Barcelona or Chelsea, as Juve don't want to lose him on a free transfer next year.

Captain Conte leaves Juve

Football Italia

Veteran Antonio Conte has left Juventus after he rejected the club's offer of a new contract.

"I'm leaving a Juventus side which has won many honours but is now about to start a new era," said the 35-year-old. "I didn't take the opportunity to renew my agreement with the club because I didn't think the offer was right.

"Perhaps this is for the best though as a new Coach is on the way who I'm sure will be keen to do very well."

The midfielder was the outfit's longest serving player after spending 13 years at the Stadio Delle Alpi. He won 16 trophies in that time and was also made the club captain until he was no longer guaranteed first team football.

Conte, who played for Lecce and Italy on numerous occasions, now has his sights on club management.

"I still haven't decided whether to retire from the game because I'm a bit confused right now," he added. "The only thing that I'm sure about is that I want to be a Coach. That will either happen this year or next."

Branca on Davids mission

Football Italia

Inter transfer chief Marco Branca has allegedly flown to Holland for talks with Edgar Davids. The Dutchman is a target for the Nerazzurri after he rejected the chance to turn his loan move at Barcelona into a permanent one.

Reports earlier this week had suggested that a three-year deal, worth £2.5m a season, had already been agreed. However, since then the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked.

The international is wanted by a host of clubs given the fact that he is a free agent now that is Juventus contract is on the verge of expiring. Branca has travelled to Amsterdam to meet with the player and his agent in a bid to grab his signature.

Meanwhile, the Milan club's interest in signing Francelino Matuzalem seems to have cooled. The Brazilian has had a sensational season at Brescia which did see him linked with Massimo Moratti's outfit.

But whispers in the peninsula insist that Juventus and Roma are leading the chase for the £3m rated playmaker.

Juventus approach Brescia about Matuzalem

Tribal Football

Juventus have approached Brescia about midfielder Matuzalem. The young Brazilian was watched by Juve scouts last season and has been earmarked by general manager Luciano Moggi as a potential future signing.

A Juve delegation, including Moggi, stopped at Brescia while on their way back to Turin from Montecarlo this week to hold talks over Matuzalem.

Man Utd, Arsenal linked as Mexes agent reveals Roma talks

Tribal Football

The agent of Philippe Mexes has confirmed the Auxerre defender met with Roma officials yesterday.

Olivier Jouanneaux told Calciomercato.com: "It went well, but what I can say with certainty is that there has not been an agreement with Roma. It has been be a matter of a courtesy visit, in which the player has seen the place and met the leaders.

"Probably in the next few days there will be more contact with the Giallorossi, via telephone.

"On Mexes there is also Juventus and one of the first three clubs in the English championship (Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United).

"My client does not have a preference, he wants only his career to progress."

Juve charge for Chevanton

Football Italia

Juventus have entered the race to sign Lecce hitman Javier Ernesto Chevanton in a partial swap deal with Fabrizio Miccoli. The Uruguayan international has been a sensation this season with 19 goals helping to ensure their Serie A status.

He also proved instrumental in Lecce's shock 4-3 victory at the Stadio Delle Alpi in Week 31, so made an immediate impact on the Bianconeri directors.

Although Milan, Lazio and Parma had been heavily linked with the striker, speculation surrounding his future has been quiet of late. This gives Juventus the perfect opportunity to dive in and seal a quick move for less than £10m.

23-year-old Chevanton would move to Turin in exchange for cash plus the one-season loan of Fabrizio Miccoli. The Italian international was born in Lecce and never hid his desire to one day play with the Salento squad.

With David Trezeguet reportedly on his way to Barcelona and a bit more pace needed upfront, Chevanton would be an ideal solution for the Bianconeri.

Kapo lands at Juventus

Football Italia

Olivier Kapo has arrived in Turin after completing his move from Auxerre to Italian giants Juventus. The Frenchman has been signed on a free transfer and he is getting to know his new footballing home.

"It was a great feeling to enter such an important world as this," said the 24-year-old after visiting the Centro Sisport training facility. "I spoke with Ciro Ferrara and Enzo Maresca, plus a few youngsters, and it is a similar environment to the one at Auxerre.

"There seems to be a family feel here even if I'm well aware that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world."

The wide midfielder, who isn't included in France's Euro 2004 squad, has signed a four-year contract at the Stadio Delle Alpi. "I can't wait for the new season to start," he added. "What is my first objective? To learn Italian and then we'll see."

Parma duo eye moves

Football Italia

Parma defenders Daniele Bonera and Matteo Ferrari are both dreaming of big summer moves.

"From what I read I understand that Juventus are looking to rejuvenate their defence," said Bonera. "Obviously I would be delighted to move there. I think it would be impossible for me to say no to a club like that."

The Under-21 international is reportedly a £4m target for the Old Lady, who were already close to signing him in 2002 while he was at Brescia.

"That's true but I'm happy with how things have gone," he added. "But now I'm ready to go up to the next level and win with a great side."

Meanwhile, Azzurri ace Ferrari is also looking to the future with Roma allegedly very keen on his services.

"I must firstly think of Parma but I would be a liar if I said I wasn't interested in wearing the Giallorossi shirt," he said. "Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano keep asking me to join them in Rome, especially Antonio who I played with at Bari," he added.

"They are being quite insistent which is pleasing because it shows that I am doing well. But we'll have to see what Parma say."

Ferrari, who is part of the Euro 2004 squad, has also been linked with Juve or a return to Inter.

Inter back in Emo race

Football Italia

Inter are ready to take on Juventus in the chase to sign Roma midfielder Emerson this summer. It's understood that Juve have struck a deal with the player but they have yet to agree a fee with Roma.

That may allow Inter to hijack the move as they are understood to be in negotiations with the Giallorossi. Roma and Juventus are not on good terms and capital chief Franco Sensi would prefer to sell Emerson to the Nerazzurri instead.

It's been reported that the midfielder could cost as little as £11m as he wants to remain in Serie A. That is well within Inter's spending power but the northern giants may propose a player plus cash deal. That option could interest Roma boss Fabio Capello who has his eyes on two Inter players in particular.

He is keen to bring back Cristiano Zanetti to the club but also net defender Fabio Cannavaro. The latter, who has never really settled at Inter, could replace Walter Samuel who has now left for Real Madrid.

Some whispers suggest that Emerson's agent Gilmar Veloz has already met with Inter, who are ready to offer the former Bayer Leverkusen man a four-year deal worth £2.2m a season.

Mexes irons out Roma details

Football Italia

Philippe Mexes had lunch with Giallorossi directors at the Trigoria training ground this afternoon to work through the final details of his move. The 22-year-old Auxerre defender is their prime transfer target to replace Walter Samuel, who was sold to Real Madrid for £18m last week.

The Italian press insists that Director of Sport Daniele Baldini, Mexes himself and his agent were all at the table this afternoon.

"The next ten days will be decisive," revealed his agent Olivier Joanneaux. "There are negotiations with Roma, it is pointless denying that, but Juventus and an English club are also very interested in his services."

Roma seem to have leapt into the lead with today's meeting, and it's expected the £4m switch will be completed by the start of next week.

"I know that Fabio Capello is a big fan of Philippe," continued the representative, "and Roma need to sign defenders quite quickly after losing Samuel and Jonathan Zebina."

Rosicky keen on Liverpool - Bobic

Tribal Football

Former Bolton Wanderers striker Fredi Bobic has urged Liverpool to snap up Borussia Dortmund star Tomas Rosicky.

"I played against Tomas recently and after speaking to him after the game, I know he is going to leave Dortmund and take up a new challenge, which he clearly needs," said Bobic, who was this week named in Germany's Euro 2004 squad.

"He definitely needs a new challenge and he mentioned Liverpool as one of his options. That could be a perfect move for him at this point in his career, although I'm sure he won't be short of offers."

Bobic added, "I think whoever comes in to replace Houllier will be keen to sign Tomas because the new manager will obviously be given money to make new signings.

"Liverpool have got that Champions League spot and playing with the likes of Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard could see Tomas become recognised as a truly world-class player."

Bolton deny move for Barcelona's Davids

Tribal Football

Bolton Wanderers insist they have not had any contact with Barcelona midfielder Edgar Davids. A Bolton spokesman said: "It is pure speculation, we don't know where this story has come from. We are interested in any quality players that become available but there has been no move made for Davids."

Barcelona on outer as Tottenham offer Davids £6M deal

Tribal Football

Tottenham have offered Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids a £6m two-year deal to join them. The Evening Standard says Spurs' new technical director, Frank Arnesen, has made the Dutch international a top target.

Davids has been on-loan at Barcelona, but his agent, Robert Geerlings, said: "There is no agreement with Barcelona. The offer did not interest him and no other meeting is planned. We have a great offer from England."

Trap tests super trio upfront

Football Italia

Giovanni Trapattoni is testing out the trident attack of Francesco Totti, Christian Vieri and Alex Del Piero for the Euro 2004 tournament.

The Italy boss ordered several changes during today's game between ranks at the Coverciano training ground, but always maintained those three stars in the same 4-2-3-1 line-up. Juventus captain Del Piero was used in a wider role on the left flank, with Totti in the centre and Mauro German Camoranesi on the right.

He has been experimenting with other alternatives in different areas of the side, although it seems certain that the first choice fullbacks will be Gianluca Zambrotta and Christian Panucci. This afternoon fans witnessed a new central defensive pairing of Matteo Ferrari and Marco Materazzi, while Milan teammates Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso clubbed together in midfield.

The 'blue' team won 2-1 with goals from Vieri and Totti, while Stefano Fiore was on target and Antonio Cassano struck the woodwork for the 'yellow' line-up. Tomorrow morning the Azzurri will pose for their official Euro 2004 photograph and are assigned their shirt numbers for the tournament.

Inter Milan weigh up bid for Man Utd target Burdisso

Tribal Football

Inter Milan's South American scout Luis Suarez has recommended Boca Juniors fullback Nicolas Burdisso to the Serie A giants. The Argentina U23 international can play at right-back and centre-half and caught the eye in the Toyota Cup against AC Milan last season.

Boca rate Burdisso at £3.5 million and are expecting an official approach to arrive from Inter in the coming weeks. Manchester United have also asked to be kept informed of Burdisso's situation since he came to manager Sir Alex Ferguson's notice in 2002.

Juventus consider offering Camoranesi for Inter's Vieri

Tribal Football

Juventus chief Luciano Moggi is considering offering Mauro Camoranesi to Inter Milan in a deal for striker Christian Vieri. Moggi knows he must land a big-name centre-forward with David Trezeguet to be sold over the close-season.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Camoranesi could be the key to negotiations, with Inter keen to find a classy left-sided wing-back. Vieri has been at loggerheads with Inter coach Alberto Zaccheroni this year and is now expected to leave the San Siro with the club having handed Zacc a new contract.

Roma set Emerson price

Football Italia

It seems that the Giallorossi are now ready to discuss terms with Juventus after Emerson refused a move abroad. The Brazilian midfielder will leave the Capital this summer as his contract expires in 2005, so they cannot risk losing him for free next year.

Roma had hoped to cash in with a £20m offer from Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid, but the player has made it clear he'll reject anyone except Juventus. It has been reported for the last few weeks that Emerson has already agreed personal terms with the Turin giants.

It's now claimed that Roma President Franco Sensi has admitted defeat and is ready to talk to Juventus director general Luciano Moggi. Because of Emerson's insistence on this switch, Juve can afford to keep their offer relatively low and the deal could be completed for as little as £10m.

Meanwhile, the Olimpico outfit is already hard at work finding a replacement and David Pizarro is currently leading the list. "It would be a dream come true for me to play for Roma," said the Chilean international.

The 25-year-old Udinese star has long been locked in a bitter row with the Friuli club, assuring he merely wants to take a step up in his career.

"I am ready to evaluate any offer, especially if it comes from a big club. Roma certainly fit that bill and will be in the Champions' League as well as challenging for the Scudetto."

Roma fume over Juventus approach for Emerson

Tribal Football

AS Roma are upset with Juventus officials after they made a dash to Montecarlo for informal talks with Emerson over a summer deal. Juve GM Luciano Moggi and marketing chief Romy Gai met with Emerson, who gave a verbal commitment to join the club if they could negotiate a deal with Roma.

Roma GM Franco Baldini is furious with the developments, but knows he must sell the Brazilian international. Juve can expect some hard bargaining when they approach Roma this week. Its understood they won't budge from lower than £10 million for Emerson.

I'm No 1 says Buffon

Football Italia

Gigi Buffon insists he deserves to be the Italian No 1 at Euro 2004 despite the stiff competition he faces. The Juventus 'keeper is considered as first choice, even though Inter's Francesco Toldo and Angelo Peruzzi of Lazio are also in the squad.

"The competition will be stimulating for me," said the youngster. "And it is in my character to fight.

"I have great respect for Toldo and Peruzzi, who can't be considered as a third choice, but I believe that I have deserved the gloves."

There were suggestions that the former Parma ace could lose his place given his recent mediocre club form.

"I know what I'm made of and I think I've demonstrated my worth over the last couple of years," he added. "I don't think the last four months will be enough for me to change my opinion of myself. I'm sure I'll have a great championship."

Buffon was also asked about the possibility of working alongside Marcello Lippi again with the national team in the future.

"I'm saddened that he has left Juventus," added the 'keeper. "Lippi is the Coach that wanted me in Turin. I would be very happy if one day he took charge of the national side."

Trap picks his successor

Football Italia

Giovanni Trapattoni has tipped Marcello Lippi or Fabio Capello to succeed him as Italy boss. "Lippi, but also Capello, have the experience necessary to lead the side," he told the Guerin Sportivo.

Trap's four-year reign may end after Euro 2004 and the two men have been linked with the Azzurri post.

However, Lippi seems favourite given the fact that he is now unemployed after he left Juventus over the weekend. The Viareggino has also admitted that he is interested in the role, while Capello has publicly stated that he prefers club management.

Meanwhile, Trap also told the Italian magazine about his hopes for Euro 2004, starting with Roma captain Francesco Totti.

"He is the one Azzurri player that makes the difference," said the Coach who will use a 4-2-3-1 system. "It would be less of a problem for France if they were without Zinedine Zidane than if we were unable to count on Totti."

Italy will start the tournament as one of the favourites but Trap fears a host of other sides.

"France are always France," he added. "Then there is Portugal and England but the most dangerous team will be the Czech Republic."

However, before Italy can play one of those nations they will have to qualify from Group C which contains Denmark, Bulgaria and Sweden.

"I think that Denmark will be the trickiest side to face because they are complete as a team," Trap noted. "That is also our first game which is a factor. A good start will be key."

Davids sparks bidding war

Football Italia

Edgar Davids has decided not to make his loan spell with Barca permanent, sparking a bidding war between Inter, Real Madrid and Manchester United. The Dutchman moved to the Nou Camp in January for the final six months of his contract with Juventus, but has broken off negotiations for a new deal.

"We have no agreement with Barcelona," announced representative Robert Geerlings. "Their offer does not interest us and we do not have any other meetings with them planned."

It was strongly claimed in the Italian and Spanish press that the reason behind this split was an agreement with Inter. There were even reports that the 31-year-old and his agent were already in Milan to discuss the final details of a three-year contract worth £2.4m a season.

However, this evening there are new suggestions that Davids is courted by Europe's biggest clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester United. The fact that the former Juventus and Ajax hero is a free agent makes him a very appetising prospect on the transfer market.

"We have some very intriguing offers on the table from English clubs," added Geerlings.

Chelsea, Man Utd linked with Barcelona's Davids

Tribal Football

Chelsea and Manchester United are being linked with Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids. Davids was expected to sign for Barcelona, but his agent has revealed a "huge offer" from an unnamed Premiership club has forced them to turn down Nou Camp chiefs.

Barca had offered Davids a two-year deal, but the out-of-contract Juventus midfielder is now set to move to the Premiership.

Bolton in shock move to trump Barcelona for Davids

Tribal Football

Bolton Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce is making an ambitious move for out-of-contract Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids.

The Independent says Allardyce, who has opened talks with the Dutch midfielder's agent, Robert Geerling, moved in for the 31-year-old when they heard he had hit trouble in talks with Barcelona about a permanent move to the Catalan club.

Bolton have put their offer on the table and are awaiting developments. Geerling has admitted he had received a "big offer" from an English club. And, despite rumours that it was Chelsea who had come back in for a former target of theirs, Bolton have emerged as the unexpected bidders.

Udinese ace Pizarro dreams of Roma move

Tribal Football

Udinese playmaker David Pizarro has declared he wants to join AS Roma. The Chile international said: "Roma would be a dream for me. I am ready to leave, above all, for a big club.

"Roma is the club for me. It would be a great move for me, particularly as we'd be playing in the Champions League and fighting for the Scudetto."

Fiore leaves door open to Lazio

Tribal Football

Stefano Fiore has admitted he could stay at Lazio next season. The 29 year-old says his future will depend on how Lazio bounce back from their financial problems over the close season, with Juventus and Inter Milan waiting in the wings to snap him up.

"If the club pus together an ambitious and serious plan over the summer, then I could stay," said Fiore. "I need clarity in order to decide what I will do.

"But of course, I know the club may risk its future if it overspends to improve the squad."

Man Utd, Juventus target Trabelsi slams Ajax coach Koeman

Tribal Football

Ajax coach Ronald Koeman has confirmed that there is no way back to the club for fullback Hatem Trabelsi. With Manchester United, Juventus and AC Milan circling, Trabelsi is set to leave his Dutch club on a Bosman after blasting Koeman.

After a court hearing over Trabelsi's contract, Koeman said: "Right now, Trabelsi does not have a future at Ajax."

The Tunisia international hit back yesterday, rapping: "Independent of the decision by the judge, I will not return to Ajax. Koeman was a great player, but he isn't a quality coach."

Don't sell me says Maresca

Football Italia

Enzo Maresca has told Juventus that he doesn't want a summer exit from the Stadio Delle Alpi. The former U-21 international has been linked with a move after contract extension talks stalled. Maresca only has a year left on his current deal and he's been linked with a number of other clubs.

"My desire is to stay at Juventus and I hope the club has the same intention," said the 24-year-old. "Hopefully my situation can be ironed out as quickly as possible.

"It is satisfying to hear that clubs such as Roma, Parma and Inter are keen on me but I want to keep wearing the Bianconeri jersey."

Reports today have suggested that the Old Lady could offer Roma cash and Maresca in exchange for Emerson. Maresca has just enjoyed his most successful season in Turin after a number of loan spells at different clubs.

Juventus chief agrees Emerson deal in Montecarlo

Tribal Football

Juventus chief Luciano Moggi has struck a verbal agreement with AS Roma midfielder Emerson. Moggi made a mad dash to Montecarlo on the weekend to meet with Emerson, who was in Monaco for the F1 grand prix.

The Brazilian gave Moggi his approval of a four-year contract offer worth £2.75 million-a-season. However, talks still need to be opened with Roma over the midfielder's transfer fee.

Emerson close to Juve

Football Italia

Roma star Emerson could be just days away from completing a move to Italian rivals Juventus. It is understood that the player has already agreed terms with the Old Lady but the two clubs have failed to reach a deal so far.

The 28-year-old has reportedly turned down a move to Real Madrid after the Turin giants offered him a four-year contract worth £2.8m a season. Roma would prefer to sell the Brazilian to a foreign club but he seems to have his heart set on a move to the Delle Alpi.

Some reports in Italy today claim that the Giallorossi are now willing to do business even if the relationship between the two clubs is not the best.

Whispers claim that the capital side will net close to £9m for the former Bayer Leverkusen ace. Even if there is the possibility that Juve could offer them a lower fee plus a player - either Enzo Maresca or Brescia's Francelino Matuzalem who they are close to signing.

Roma have to sell Emerson given the fact that he will be available on a free transfer next summer. They reportedly turned down a £27m offer from Chelsea before the start of this season but interest from the Premiership club now seems to have cooled.

Meanwhile, Monaco Coach Didier Deschamps is expected to be named as the new Juventus boss on Friday.

Prandelli pushed to Fiorentina

Football Italia

The likely appointment of Didier Deschamps as Juventus boss may see Cesare Prandelli opt for Fiorentina. The Parma man is a contender to replace Marcello Lippi in Turin but Deschamps seems in pole position for the Old Lady.

Prandelli is now being touted as a contender to boss Fiorentina next season if they are promoted. The Viola, flying high in Serie B right now, are currently being Coached by Emiliano Mondonico.

However, he's not expected to keep his job even if he does ensure that the club are playing top-flight football next term. It was believed that Fiorentina had targeted Chievo's Gigi Del Neri but he is expected to become the new Porto tactician.

Agent: Zlatan would leave Ajax for Juventus

Tribal Football

The agent of Ajax striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic says the Swede would be happy to move to Juventus over the summer. The striker's agent, Mino Raiola, said: "He loves Juventus and for them he would be prepared to leave Ajax."

Ibrahimovic has a contract with Ajax until 2006 and his buyout clause is £35 million. However, the Dutch giants are prepared to listen to offers starting at £17 million.

Chelsea linked as Barcelona struggle in Davids talks

Tribal Football

Barcelona's hopes of signing Edgar Davids to a permanent deal are slipping away. The Dutchman has been outstanding since joining Barca in January on-loan from Juve and has been offered terms by Barca.

But the midfielder has turned down the offer, with his agent admitting a "big offer" had arrived from England in the last few days. Though Robert Geerlings has refused to name the club involved, Marca says Chelsea are likely to have joined the bidding.

Barca are refusing to budge from their £1.4 million offer over three years to Davids, who is looking for closer to double that amount.

Inter Milan ready to bust open Davids chase

Tribal Football

Inter Milan supremo Massimo Moratti is ready to bring Edgar Davids back to Italy over the summer.

Out-of-contract from Juventus, Davids held talks with Barcelona yesterday over a permanent deal at the Nou Camp. However, the Spanish club's offer came well short of Davids' £2 million-a-year demands.

Moratti already has put aside funds to cover Davids' asking price, indeed its been suggested Inter would willingly hand the Dutchman a three-year deal worth £2.4 million-a-season to clinch his signature.

Bonera reveals Bianconeri dream

Football Italia

Daniele Bonera is one of the top transfer targets for the big clubs this summer and admits Juventus have already started talks.

"I know that several of the top sides are showing an interest in me," said the Parma defender, "but my dream would be to play for Juventus."

The former Brescia man will turn 23 at the end of this month and is preparing for action in the European Under-21 Championships. He is nonetheless keeping up to date with the latest transfer movements at the Stadio Tardini, as the club needs to sell in order to stave off massive debts.

"I have been told that the Juve and Parma directors have already spoken about me," revealed Bonera. "I hope the move can be completed, as it would be just fantastic to make my Champions' League debut with the Bianconeri jersey on my back."

Juve have also targeted Gialloblu stars Alberto Gilardino, who currently seems closer to Roma, and Bonera's fellow defender Matteo Ferrari.

Meanwhile, it's reported that Perugia will take Juventus youth products Davide Chiumiento and Victor Boudianski on loan if they stay in Serie A next season. The Grifoni will enter a play-off with the sixth-placed side in Serie B to decide who enters next year's expanded 20-team top flight.

Roma agree Mexes terms - report

Football Italia

French newspaper L'Equipe maintains Roma have agreed terms with Auxerre for Philippe Mexes, while they look to Milan to replace Emerson. It had already been reported that the Giallorossi were pinpointing Mexes to shore up their defence following the £18m sale of Walter Samuel to Real Madrid.

The player is a popular target among Europe's biggest clubs, but the French press insists that Auxerre have already reached a basic agreement with the Olimpico outfit for approximately £4m.

L'Equipe also suggests that Mexes will "be in the Italian Capital next week to discuss personal terms and meet Coach Fabio Capello." Mexes was one of the players named by Francesco Totti when he demanded the team remain competitive if he was to stay on.

"It is not true that we will be in Rome next week," assured agent Olivier Joanneaux on Goalcity.it, "but I know that Capello is a big fan of Philippe and there are negotiations in place. It is pointless denying that."

However, the representative did assure that the deal was far from sealed and delivered.

"Juventus are also interested in Mexes, as are a very prestigious English side, so the talks are still wide open. The French transfer market opens tomorrow, but I think we'll know a lot more about his future in about ten days."

Meanwhile, some midfield reinforcements must also be found before Emerson completes his expected move to Juventus. With Udinese's David Pizarro and the out of contract Edgar Davids seemingly out of reach, it's rumoured that Roma are now aiming for Massimo Ambrosini.

The Italian international missed out on Euro 2004 due to his lack of first team football at Milan and he is ready to move on following the arrival of Vikash Dhorasoo from Lyon. 27-year-old Ambrosini is a talented holding midfielder and would only cost the cash-strapped Giallorossi in the region of £4m.

In other transfer news, the Spanish press reports that Inter benchwarmer Jeremie Brechet is close to signing for Real Sociedad in a £2m deal.

Gilardino gives Roma nod

Football Italia

Newspapers in Italy maintain Roma's reconstruction will start from Alberto Gilardino and Philippe Mexes as Juve turn to La Coruna. The fact the Giallorossi were targeting Gilardino was already reported last week, but his agent had claimed no contact had been made.

It's now suggested in the press that Roma have made their approach and that the Parma hitman is happy with the terms on offer. This gives the two clubs the go-ahead to start discussing the move, which will be worth in the region of £13m.

"Gilardino is a player who is liked by a host of Italian and European clubs," agent Francesco Romano told Radio Radio. "I think between £10m and £15m should be enough to complete a deal."

Juventus were said to be in the lead ahead of Manchester United and Real Madrid, but it's reported they have now turned their attention towards Diego Tristan. The 28-year-old striker has had personality clashes with Deportivo La Coruna staff and would be available for a very reasonable £3.5m.

Meanwhile, Juventus are ever closer to capturing Emerson's signature with newspapers noting the Roma midfielder was at the Monaco Grand Prix accompanied by Bianconeri media chief Romy Gai.

Roma are also on the lookout for a new defender to replace Walter Samuel, who joined Real Madrid for £18m this week. The top candidate is Auxerre's 22-year-old starlet Philippe Mexes, who would be an affordable £3.5m compared to Parma's Matteo Ferrari.

Juventus chief considers Udinese demands for Jankulovski

Tribal Football

Juventus chief Luciano Moggi has asked for more time to consider Udinese's demands during transfer talks for midfielder Marek Jankulovski. Juve want to land the Czech Republic international before next month's European Championships and lengthy talks were held last week over the player's transfer.

Udinese have asked for cash - plus midfielder Enzo Maresca - in exchange for Jankulovski. Moggi is now considering the proposal with more talks scheduled for the middle of this week.

Roma in Parma talks over exciting trio

Tribal Football

AS Roma have opened talks with Parma over three of their players - Matteo Ferrari, Daniele Bonera and Alberto Gilardino. Having lost Jonathan Zebina, Lima, John Carew and possibly Emerson already since the end of their season, Roma now have room in their budget to bring in new names.

President Franco Sensi, GM Franco Baldini and coach Fabio Capello are agreed that the majority of new signings over the summer should be under 25 - which has led them to the Parma trio. In preliminary talks Roma have offered cash-strapped Parma several of their top youngsters to tempt them into cash-plus-player swaps.

Inter drop Canna for Carvalho?

Football Italia

The Nerazzurri continue their reconstruction with a bid for Porto defender Ricardo Carvalho, reportedly as a replacement for Fabio Cannavaro. The Italian international has never really settled in at the San Siro and there have long been suggestions he is ready to move on next season.

There are set to be several changes at the back, with Jeremie Brechet and Carlos Alberto Gamarra also not part of Coach Alberto Zaccheroni's plans. Inter are therefore making a beeline for UEFA Cup winner and Champions' League Finalist Ricardo Carvalho.

His price tag is currently in the region of £7m, although that could be lowered if Paraguayan international Gamarra was handed over as part of the deal.

26-year-old Carvalho proved crucial to Porto's recent success on the domestic and European stage, but it is his ability to push forward and support the attack that most impressed Inter.

However, they also face stiff competition from Chelsea, particularly if the Stamford Bridge side signs Porto boss Jose Mourinho as their next Coach.

Man Utd deal closer for Heinze

Tribal Football

Manchester United are on the verge of signing Paris Saint Germain defender Gabriel Heinze this week.

The Argentina international will reject an enquiry from Chelsea to join United. The deal could be agreed as soon as this week.

PSG signed Heinze's replacement on Saturday in Nantes stopper Sylvain Armand. The versatile Argie will move to Old Trafford for £6 million.

Premiership chasing Italian ref Collina

Tribal Football

FA, and Arsenal, vice-chairman David Dein has admitted English football's governing body is considering the idea of introducing a number of foreign officials in a bid to stamp out over-familiarity between English referees and players.

Italian referee Pierluigi Collina could soon be seen taking charge of Premiership matches. At 45 years of age, Collina - widely regarded as the world's top official - must retire in Italy at the end of this term but is still eligible to referee in the Premiership for a further three years, and could be seen in England as early as next season.

"He's (Collina) one of several officials the FA is looking at introducing," declared Dein. "Collina is 45 so would qualify for the Premiership for the next three years.

"I am in favour of introducing foreign referees into the Premier League - not for every game but maybe three or four times a season. I'd like to see them because I think certain players do get targeted because of familiarity.

"And you look at the difference in the way foreign referees are treated by the players. They are definitely respected more. You don't see players swearing at them and when a foreign referee says 'that's it', players back off.

"I'm always in favour of experimenting if it is trying to take the game forward - to try things out for three of four seasons and see if they work."

Lippi's last Juve goodbye

Football Italia

Marcello Lippi has bid a moving farewell to the Juventus staff after completing his final training session with the club.

The players were all waiting in the centre of the field to hear the tactician's last speech this morning. Director Roberto Bettega and Chief of Medical Staff Riccardo Agricola were also present for this sad day after Lippi's eight years, on and off, with the side.

The now ex-Bianconeri boss then stopped by at the press room, but only shook hands with the journalists and said, "Goodbye to everyone."

A new Coach has not yet been drafted in, as reports continue to split the job between Parma's Cesare Prandelli - who this week is linked with the Fiorentina post - and Didier Deschamps of Monaco.

Until Lippi's replacement can be found, the Juventus squad will be trained by fitness Coach Corradini.

Udinese set Pizarro price tag

Football Italia

Clubs interested in Chilean midfielder David Pizarro have now been alerted to the fact he will cost them £13.4m.

The Udinese star has made it perfectly clear he wishes to join a bigger team over the summer after his switch to Lazio fell through last year. His agent has hinted at his preferred destination - Inter, Juventus or Roma - but the £13m price-tag now set by the Friuli outfit could scare some of them away.

Pizarro was frozen out of the squad for over a month after refusing to negotiate a new contract, but he did eventually put pen to paper and was allowed back in.

It's reported that Inter are considering him as a cheaper alternative to Juan Sebastian Veron, although they will probably try to include a few players as part of the deal.

Juventus are also showing an interest, but he is again their second choice behind Roma midfielder Emerson. The Giallorossi themselves would sign Pizarro as a replacement for the Brazilian, but they too might consider £13.4m to be a little steep.

An overseas move is therefore on the cards, with Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen said to be interested.

Palermo celebrate with Chevanton

Football Italia

Palermo could celebrate their return to Serie A this weekend and aim to snap up Javier Ernesto Chevanton to burst back into the top flight. The Sicilians have not graced the elite of Italian football since 1973, but a victory at Messina this evening and Fiorentina's failure to beat Napoli would see them celebrate promotion a month early.

Patron Maurizio Zamparini has poured cash into the club and signed stars such as Fabio Grosso, Eugenio Corini, Luca Toni and both Filippini twins. The former Venezia President has now set his sights on another big money investment for their return to Serie A.

After reports of negotiations in place to bring in Empoli's Italian international Antonio Di Natale, Palermo are making an audacious £7m bid for Chevanton. The Uruguayan hitman has been a sensation and helped keep Lecce in the top flight with a new club record 19 goals.

There is also interest from the likes of Milan and Lazio for the pacey forward, but Palermo would be able to offer him first team football.

Nerazzurri pounce for Davids?

Football Italia

There are increasingly strong reports that Edgar Davids will sign for the Nerazzurri early next week.

On Friday evening patron Massimo Moratti had answered questions about their links with Juan Sebastian Veron and Davids, but until now most newspapers believed he was referring to the Chelsea star.

"We have already contacted one of them," admitted the oil baron, "and our directors are working hard towards achieving our transfer objectives."

The advantage for the Dutchman is that he would arrive on a free transfer, as his contract with Juventus expires this summer and he does not seem intent on making his loan spell at Barcelona permanent.

Davids had been in advanced negotiations with Milan, but his wage demands of approximately £2.4m per season proved a stumbling block.

They opted for Lyon midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo instead, as he was also out of contract and ready to accept much lower wages.

However, this does not necessarily mean that the Nerazzurri are releasing their grip on Veron.

Inter are notoriously big spenders on the transfer market and are also working towards bringing in the former Parma and Lazio star.

Chelsea join chase for Monaco winger Rothen

Tribal Football

Chelsea are chasing AS Monaco winger Jerome Rothen. The 26 year-old French international is being lined up by the Blues as doubts persist over the fitness of Damien Duff - and also new signing Arjen Robben from PSV Eindhoven.

Monaco are also in talks with Barcelona and Juventus over Rothen, who is rated in the £8 million class.

Chelsea to offer Mutu Parma return for Gilardino

Tribal Football

Chelsea are considering a sensational swap move for Parma striker Alberto Gilardino. The youngster is expected to be cashed in by Parma over the summer as they seek to wipe out massive debts.

The Italian press are reporting that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to offer Adrian Mutu - plus cash - in a swap for Gilardino. The youngster has been likened to AC Milan's Pippo Inzaghi and is emerging as Serie A brightest new star.

Juventus plan rebuilding of stadium

Yahoo! Sport Italia

Juventus today publicly revealed future plans for their stadium the Stadio Delle Alpi. The name may even be changed depending on sponsorship deals. Juve intend to buy over the stadium and remove the athletic track and field, while introducing space for about 180 television cameras for live coverage within and out of the stadium.

The finalized plan will be submitted to the Commission of Urban Planning for approval before awaiting the final approval from the Communal Council. Juve will invest approximately €150million and if everything runs smoothly, work will begin in June and take about three years to complete.

Juventus chief revives Vieri talks with Inter Milan

Tribal Football

Juventus chief Luciano Moggi is set to revive talks with Inter Milan over striker Christian Vieri. With AS Monaco's Fernando Morientes close to a move to Chelsea and Parma's Alberto Gilardino interesting Roma, Moggi is again eyeing Vieri as an alternative signing.

Its been suggested that Moggi would be prepared to drop out of the race for Roma's Emerson, allowing Inter to land the Brazilian, in order to smooth negotiations over Vieri.

Juve's move for Lippi successor stalled

Yahoo! Sport Italia

Juventus seem to have made Deschamps first choice as manager. However their move for Deschamps is being stalled by negotiations for compensation to Monaco, to be set by a tribunal panel. Juve are unwilling to pay exorbitant prices while compensation would be no object to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

If Juve fail to land Deschamps, they will move for current Parma manager Cesare Prandelli. However, Prandelli is currently considering another contract offer, and Juve may even miss out on Prandelli should negotiations for Deschamps extend indefinitely.

Juve linked with Tristan

Yahoo! Sport Italia

Alberto Gilardino is Juventus' primary objective. The Parma striker has been the revelation of the season along with Kakà, and is the man Moggi hopes will lead the Juve's attack. However, the price tag on the Italy striker has risen to the extent that the bianconeri are considering alternatives should they fail to land their target.

That has seen Juve start talks with Deportivo La Coruna about €5million Spain striker Diego Tristan, who would cost considerably less than their other Spanish striking targets. Real Madrid's Fernando Morientes is close to a move to Chelsea while Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres is considered too inexperienced.

Juve target Luis Fabiano

Yahoo! Sport Italia

Juventus have targeted Luis Fabiano as a replacement for David Trezeguet. Rumors indicate while there has not been official contact, Juve scouts seem to be focussing their attention on the 20-year-old Brazilian striker, who is highly regarded in Brazil. Moggi has decided to target Fabiano after Milan's interest in the player subsided.

Emerson spotted with Juve officials

Yahoo! Sport Italia

Emerson, Roma midfielder and captain of the Brazilian national squad, has been spotted with Juventus officials at the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Montecarlo.

He has reportedly signed an agreement with the bianconeri and are refusing to transfer to other clubs. Roma are reluctant to sell to their arch-enemies and are continuing discussions with Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Other Juventus targets spotted include Ajax striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and winger Maxwell.

Roma's Gilardino link rejected

Football Italia

Alberto Gilardino's agent has dismissed reports that Roma have made a move for the striker. The Giallorossi have been linked with the Parma ace after he received praise from boss Fabio Capello. However, Gilardino's representative is unaware of any interest from the Stadio Olimpico outfit.

"Gilardino is a player who is liked by a host of Italian and European clubs," Francesco Romano told Radio Radio. "But I don't know anything about Roma making any sort of contact for the player at this moment in time. If they had I would know about it."

The Under-21 international, who just missed out on a place at Euro 2004, has caught the eye of many sides after his 23 League goals this term.

"Alberto is just 22-years-old and he's had a really important past year in this game," added Romano. "How much will he cost? I think somewhere in the region of between £10m and £15m will be enough."

The former Piacenza ace has been heavily associated with Juventus even if Real Madrid are allegedly interested.

Arsenal scouting French youngster

Tribal Football

Arsenal are interested in Bologna youngster Mourad Meghni. Meghni almost joined Fulham at the start of last season and has been scouted by Arsenal this term. A French U21 international, Meghni has been with Bologna since he was 16 and has been likened to French ace Zinedine Zidane.
