Wufei's Love Charm

By DragonMage

Notes: Oookay!! I was urged by Goldmund to start writing this. Since, well, I like to please her--she's the best--I decided to start this up again. The only problem is that I might not have enough time to work on this so that it's at least 10 pages long per chapter. *thinks about Cannibals and sighs heavily* So, to fix this little problem with time and getting chapters out to please people, I've decided to fall back on something most new authors do: write really short but goood chapters. *laughs* Don't kill me for this...

Oh, and this is MAJORLY out of character. Especially for Fei and Heero. Besides! It's AU, so don't hurt me for it. *sticks out tongue and blows a raspberry*

Chapter 3

Wufei sat down at his desk the next day and groaned when he saw another pile of folders to work on. He pulled out another sucker from the drawer in his desk and started working. He twirled the sucker around in his mouth as he continued to paper clip, make notes and staple things before he went over to a large filing cabinent and filed everything. He walked back over to his table and almost bumped into Heero again. He choked on his sucker from the sheer shock of running into Heero.

"Are you all right?" Heero asked, frowning as he watched Wufei choke. He reached up and tugged the sucker out of Wufei's mouth.

Wufei coughed and pounded at his chest. "Thanks," he manged to wheeze.

"Here." Heero handed the sucker back and and walked into his office.

Wufei cleared his throat and shoved the sucker back into his mouth. He sucked on it for a moment before heading back over to his desk. He picked up another folder and continued to work. It was so tedious but it was a good job and it paid well. If he earned enough money maybe then he could finally buy a ticket back to China and see his parents again. He missed them since they decided to go back to China when they retired. He knew that they missed their native country and liked living there better than living in America, but he really missed them and sometimes wished they didn't go. But then, the only reason why they had came to America in the first place was so that he'd be free from the oppression that was felt during the time. They gave up their comforts of being in their own land to give him a good home in America and a good education, as well as freedom. He owed them a lot. Part of the reason why he hadn't complained and pouted like a child when they decided to move back to China.

He blinked and pulled his thoughts from his head and concentrated on working. Maybe if he got all of this done early he could write another letter back to China and send it before the day ended. It would be nice to know how his parents were doing. The last time they had written, they had just came back from a wedding of some distant cousins he didn't even know existed. They had sounded happy and relaxed.

He was so engrossed in finishing up his work quickly he hadn't noticed Heero walk up to his desk until the taller man's shadow fell over him. He looked up and blinked, slowly pulling the sucker from his mouth with a soft 'pop'.

Heero almost frowned when he saw that blasted sucker in Wufei's mouth. That man had a serious sweet tooth. Every time he saw Wufei the Chinese man was either drinking soda or sucking on a sucker. Although he had to admit that Wufei looked pretty nice with his mouth pouted around the sucker, moist lips sticky with the sweet candy.

Giving himself a mental shake Heero reminded himself why he was even talking with Wufei.

"I need you to go and deliver this for me. It's too important to be sent by mail," Heero said as he placed a thick package in front of Wufei. "Do you think you can handle this?"

Wufei glared at his boss and stood up. "Of course. Do you think I'm retarded?"

"I don't exactly think a grown man like you sucking on a lollipop like a four-year-old can actually be trusted," Heero said dryly, resisting the urge to roll his Prussian blue eyes.

Wufei stared down at the sucker in his hand and defiantly stuck it back in his mouth. "Sho?" His 'so' came out hollow and wet from the intruding sucker in his mouth. But he had made his point and that was what counted! Even if he did look a little silly while doing it...

Heero rolled his eyes and gave Wufei a slip of paper. "That's the address. Don't screw it up."

"Trust me; I won't," Wufei said coolly as he watched Heero walk back into his office. <Nice ass.> He blinked and almost wanted to slap himself for that thought. <I will NOT like that about my boss!!> He sat back down and stared at the address. It wasn't so very far away. He quickly finished up the work on his desk and grabbed his coat. He picked up the thick package and left the office.

As he stepped out on to the sidewalk of the office building, Wufei tried to smother the smile that was tugging at his lips. It felt nice to be outside instead of being stuck in that office building. His last job had involved being a martial arts teacher. He usually took his students outside to the park that was right next door to the martial arts school and practise there. There had been a certain relief about working outside instead of in. There was the freedom and fresh air that made the blood in his veins sing. Being inside couldn't compare to how it felt to be outside. What was recycled air compared to the real stuff?

But since the school had to close down due to the lack of enthusiasm people had for martial arts lately, he had had to go and find another job. It had been a bit difficult at first since he didn't have much of the requirements people wanted in their employees nowadays. Honestly, who would want a martial arts teacher with a few quirks up his sleeves?

Then he had managed to land an interview for the spot of assistant to Heero Yuy. He had no idea who the hell was Heero Yuy but he seemed to be important since the people interviewing him grilled him on anything, as if any small mistake would cost them everything. It had been strange but he managed to answer all the questions appropriately. He had done desk jobs before--it was during high school and college when he couldn't find anything else--and they seemed to approve on his attitude about everything. The next day, he got a call telling him he got the job.

Adjusting the package in his hands, Wufei weaved his way through the crowds of people in the busy streets. It was winter yet there was plenty of people around the place, rushing from building to building, street to street. They were all business men and women considering the warm suits they were wearing and the suitcases or files they were holding. They all had determined expressions on their faces and Wufei wondered if any of them even knew the definition of fun.

*That* train of thought promptly brought up the image of his stick up the ass boss. Wufei tried not to wrinkle his nose at the thought. Now there was a man that seriously needed to loosen up. Honestly, how can anyone be so serious? <But then, it might be due to the fact that we didn't get off on the right footing. What if he's actually a good guy?> Wufei wondered absently as he crossed the street and continued his walk to the ebony glassed building not so far away. He pulled out the slip of paper and checked the address, just to make sure he had the right building.

Wufei smiled slightly at the security that stood at the doors of the building and the man nodded warmly back at him. The man reached out and pushed the door open for Wufei, saying a warm "There ya go" as the Chinese man passed through.

"Thank you," Wufei threw over his shoulder as he entered the building and made his way over to where the elevators were supposed to be, indicated by the business-like plastic signs. He was to go to the seventh floor and give it the secretary of Zechs Merquise. Now that was a fancy name if anyone had ever heard of one!

Just as he caught sight of the elevator the doors were just beginning to slide shut. He started running. If those doors shut, he'd probably end up waiting *forever* before he could get on. The building was very big and there were probably tons of people getting on and off on each floor, thus making it longer than usual to get on. He really didn't want to wait that long for a damn elevator to come down just so he could deliver some stupid package.

"Wait!" he called out, trying to catch the door. He missed and almost sighed in defeat until a long, nicely tanned hand reached out and caught the door, causing it to automatically slide open.

"There you go," a smooth, low voice said.

Wufei smiled in relief and slipped inside easily, his lithe form carrying him with a grace that made most girls jealous. He immediately looked up to find a tall, handsome man smiling down at him. But then, as an afterthought, he had to look up to a lot of people--literally of course. He *was* pretty short due to his Asian hertiage. A pretty rueful topic for him, something Duo just absolutely *loved* to tease him about.

"Thanks a lot," he said warmly. "I thought it would close for sure."

"No, I caught it," the man said, his ice blue eyes sparkling.

<Wow...> Wufei thought without meaning to. <He's hot!> And he *was*. Long platinum hair that looked like it fell to his waist and maybe a little more, smooth tanned skin, a great smile and those eyes...<Ah, I'm gonna make a fool of myself!> Wufei ducked his head and looked away, feeling stupid suddenly. It was strange since he never really had any reactions like this before, girl or guy. To feel like this..and about a total stranger...Ack, this was not good.

"So, where are you headed?" the man asked quietly.

Wufei chanced a look up. "The seventh floor. I'm supposed to deliver it to the secretary of some guy named Zechs Merquise." He wrinkled his nose slightly. "Strange name, really. I mean, who names their son 'Zechs'?? I kinda feel sorry for him."

The man laughed lightly. "You do?" His voice was laced with plenty of amusement.

"Yeah. Kids probably make fun of him by calling him 'sex' or something. How nice is that?" Wufei said, shaking his head.

"Not that nice. But they stopped doing that when I got taller than them," the man answered smoothly.

Wufei's liquid eyes immediately got bigger. He gasped softly and clutched the package hard against his chest. He would have 'eeped' but he couldn't seem to get his mouth or any of his vocal cords to start working.

Zechs Merquise laughed at the strange expression on the younger man's face. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. But do you really think my name is that bad?"

"I...I...I'm so sorry!" Wufei exclaimed. "I didn't mean to...I mean...I didn't..."

"You didn't know. Don't worry. I'm not going to eat you or anything," Zechs teased. "So, I believe you're Heery Yuy's new assistant?"

"Yes, sir," Wufei answered, nodding.

"You don't have to call me that. Just call me Zechs."

"All right."

"That must be the files on the Applegate deal. Here, why don't I just take it off your hands and you can head back once I get off? It'll save you the trip and the talk with my secretary, Helen. She talks a lot, you see, and there's no way to escape her once she gets going," Zechs said, reaching to detach the package from Wufei's hands. Wufei nodded and handed it over, causing their hands to brush slightly against each other. He sucessfully managed to quell the light blush that threatened to sweep across his cheeks.

"Thanks a lot. That's really nice of you," Wufei said, nodding. "And I'm sorry about your name."

"Sorry that you think it's horrible or sorry you told me it's horrible?"

"Both."

Zechs chuckled. "It's all right. I'm used to it. It's not my first name, anyway. My first name is Milliardo."

"That's still strange," Wufei said without thinking. He clamped his hand over his mouth and flushed. "Sorry," he murmured miserably. "I don't think I've been able to keep my mouth shut when it's supposed to be these past few days."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I got off on a bad start with Mr. Yuy, you see."

"He hasn't killed you, as he?" Zechs asked.

"No..."

"Then I think you're fine. As long as you're still alive, I don't think you got off that bad with him," Zechs assured him.

"You think so? I spilled soda all over his files," Wufei said miserably.

"You did?" Zechs laughed. "I would have loved to see the expression on his face."

"Oh, I don't think so. He was furious. It was even worse when I had to meet him to tell him I was working for him. It wasn't a happy shock for either of us," Wufei said morosely, shaking his head. "It was horrible."

"I don't think so. Knowing Heero, he'll get over it."

"You know him well?"

"Yes. We're business partners and never mind our families have been friends for as long as I can remember. I know Heero and he'll be fine. He's just a little annoyed."

"That's a relief to hear," Wufei admitted.

The elevator doors 'dinged' open and Zechs started to get off. Just as he was about to start off, he turned.

"I didn't catch your name," he said.

"It's Chang Wufei."

"Well, Wufei, it's been nice meeting you. I hope we can do so again." Zechs nodded and smiled warmly before walking off.

Wufei fell against the metal bar of the elevator and let out the breath he had been holding as the elevator doors slid shut and began to head back down.

What a conversation!

~*~

When Wufei returned to the office, it was almost time for lunch. He sat down and started doing his work again, hoping for lunch to come by soon. He wanted out! Jeez, a day in the office was really, really boring and all he wanted to do was go out to lunch and relax. Yes, relaxing was a very, very good thing. Especially after that meeting with Zechs Merquise.

<Ack, this is so strange. Maybe Duo was right. Maybe that love charm *is* working or something! 'Cause I sure as hell never met anyone who made me feel like *that*,> Wufei thought, surprised by his own thoughts. He pulled open the drawer to his desk and grabbed his manga, flipping the book and looking for his love charm. It was the last place he had stuck it since he remembered he needed a bookmark the charm had just been sitting there.

Frowning, Wufei saw no sign of the charm. He searched the pages but there was nothing stuck between them at all. The charm was gone. His spirits fell.

<Great. I can't believe I lost it.> He sighed heavily. But then perked up when he figured, maybe, just maybe, he had put it somewhere else and didn't remember doing so! With that thought in mind, he ignored all the work that had been sitting there for him and began to search through the his desk and the pockets of his jacket.

Again, he was so engrossed in what he was doing, he hadn't noticed when Heero was coming towards him until the other man was upon him.

"Mr. Chang?"

Wufei yelped, startled, and banged his head on his desk. He had been underneath it, figuring his charm might be there and hadn't realized someone would have came looking for him.

Heero frowned and watched as Wufei came out from underneath the desk, a slightly embarassed and pained expression on his face.

"What were you doing?" the Japanese man asked, waiting for some stupid answer.

"Looking for something," Wufei answered meekly. He cleared his throat. "Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Did you deliver the files?" Heero asked impatiently.

"Yes," Wufei said, nodding. "In fact, I met Mr. Merquise on the elevator and he took them from me."

"Good." Heero looked down at his watch. "I think you can go now. Everyone else is starting to leave."

Wufei nodded and started to grab his jacket when a thought popped in his head. He had been griping to himself about how stiff Heero was and Zechs had said that Heero was actually a pretty okay guy so...maybe he could make amends by inviting Heero out to lunch!

"Mr. Yuy?" Wufei ventured tentatively.

Heero turned around just as he was about to walk off and raised an eyebrow. "Yes?"

"Would you like to...I mean, if it's not too much trouble," Wufei began. He took a deep breath. "I was wondering if you'd like to go out to lunch with me?"

Heero blinked, his expression softening slightly. "Ah, well, I'm pretty busy right now..."

"Oh." Wufei nodded. "Of course." He smiled and quickly grabbed his things before practically fleeing the room, wanting to get away as fast as possible.

Heero was left standing there, staring after the other man with a thoughtful expression on his face.

~*Owari Chapter 3*~

Done! Ha! Finally...Actually, this is pretty fun to write. And I'm so sorry if I've written a Wufei that might be annoying to some people but I'm aiming for a totally adorable, inncocent, boy-loving ooc Fei-chan *V*
