Chapter 7

The Next Morning

"What are you going to do about Meiren?" Duo asked softly as he played with Wufei's hair. The Chinese man was laid comfortable between his legs and pressed against his chest. They were both far too happy in the position they were currently in to go anywhere else.

"I honestly have no idea," Wufei murmured sadly. "I don't want to hurt her, Duo. I do love her still and I just can't hurt her like that."

"Wufei, what are you saying?"

"I don't know, Duo," Wufei said, shaking his head. "I truly don't know..."

"I thought you didn't regret this," Duo said, his voice going up a few notches. He wasn't going to lose Wufei just because his love decided that what they had done wasn't right even though he didn't regret it. Because if Wufei did that, he'd be damned to let it go! He wasn't going to let Wufei think honor rules over love! If Wufei truly loved him that is...Did Wufei really mean it when he said 'I love you'? Or was that just a fluke of the moment?

"Duo, please. I don't regret this and I DO love you with all my heart. Don't think other wise," Wufei said firmly as he turned around and stared Duo in the eye. "Duo, you're my heart, my soul. But...There are so many obligations I have to fulfill."

"Don't give me this shit, Wufei. Don't you dare give me this shit," Duo said angrily as he held Wufei by the shoulders. "If you love me, stay with me. Don't go back to China! This is America! It's not China!"

"My family..."

"Screw your family! Stay with me! If you truly love me, let go of Meiren and move to America. You can get a job easily with my company and we'll live together and maybe start a family together...Wufei, don't throw all of this away for family obligation and honor," Duo spat out the last three words with full venom. Because of 'obligation' and 'honor' he had lost Wufei once. He wasn't going to lose Wufei again.

"You don't understand--"

"No! *You* don't understand!" Duo said fiercely, shaking his head.

Wufei glared at Duo and pushed away from him. "Duo, you're not Chinese."

"What the fuck does that have to do with anything?" Duo demanded angrily as he sat up straighter and regarded Wufei furiously. "What does being Chinese mean anything? Tell me Wufei!"

"I can't dishonor--"

"Bull shit honor!" Duo exploded. He grabbed Wufei and shook him. "You're not gonna do this to me because of 'honor', Wufei. You've left me once because of honor, respect and all that shit you Chinese people seem to worship. And you're giving me the same shit after we just made love! Tell me, Wufei, what do you want?"

Wufei stared at Duo for a long time. He opened his mouth to say something but abruptly snapped it shut. What could he tell Duo? Duo didn't understand what obligations he had, he'll never understand. He loved Duo more than life itself but like plenty of martyr plays and movies he had seen, he just couldn't be with Duo. He had his obligations to his family to continue the family line, to marry a good woman...So many obligations. His family name depended on him marrying Meiren. He was the Changs only son, he couldn't turn his back on that could he? No...He couldn't. Being Chinese meant having to suffer and just bite his tongue as he allows his elders to lead his life.

Anger, frustration and sorrow welled up in Wufei. All his life he had listened to his elders, his mother, his father, his whole fucking family of elders. All his life he had been told what to do, what to wear, what to eat, what to study, what to do with his while fucking life. Never had been he happy. Maybe he found some kind of happiness with Meiren but it was nothing compared to the happiness he found with Duo. Nothing could ever compare to the love, warmth and security he found in Duo's arms, in Duo's kisses and embraces.

His heart and mind were so far apart, he couldn't bring them together to form a decent decision.

"Wufei, what do you want?" Duo asked again.

Wufei looked into Duo's violet eyes, his own obsidian ones reflected in those beautiful, passionate eyes.

"How could you love me after how I've acted?" he finally asked softly in wonderment.

Duo's eyes widened a bit and he stared at Wufei for a long time. Then he softened and smiled slightly. "Maybe because I love you too much that I can never hate you or want to hurt you no matter what. It's stupid. Is it stupid?"

"I don't know," Wufei said in a barely audible voice as he shook his head. He was so confused inside. He had never made such an important decision in his life before. What was he to do?

"I don't want to force anything on you, Wufei," Duo whispered as he reached up and tenderly caressed Wufei's cheek with his thumb. "I love you but you've got to make this decision yourself. What do you want?"

"I want--" Wufei stopped. What did he want? What did he desire more than the world? Duo. He wanted Duo. It was so simple yet so horribly complicated.

"Tell me, Wufei," Duo urged as he looked Wufei straight in the eye. His heart ached as he prayed that Wufei picked him as his decision. He loved Wufei so much it killed him to see his lover like this. < Please, Wufei, make the right decision. Please, pick me. Stop thinking about your family and start thinking about yourself. It's selfish but you deserve it after all that you've had to deal with. >

"I--" Wufei took a deep breath "--I want you, Duo. I want you."

Duo pulled Wufei into a crushing hug and held his lover as he tried not to jump up and down shouting and laughing in joy. Wufei hugged him back and held him tightly as he tried to come to terms with his decision.

"I love you, Wufei. Don't you ever leave me like this ever again or I swear I will KILL you," Duo whispered thickly as he pulled back and kissed Wufei happily. "I love you."

Wufei closed his eyes and savored the kiss before opening his eyes and staring at Duo with all the love he had for this man. "I love you too, Duo. With all my heart. Wo ai ni, yong yuan."

Duo smoothed back Wufei's hair and kissed him gently on the forehead. "What does that mean, lover?"

"I love you, always and forever," Wufei translated as he kissed Duo again. "And forever."

"Same here, Wufei. Same here," Duo whispered happily as he held Wufei tightly while kissing all the golden flesh he could reach. "I love you always and forever."

"And forever," Wufei repeated as he pulled Duo back down on the bed.

Wufei took a deep breath as he stood outside his hotel room door. What was he going to say to Meiren? Was he just going to walk in there and say "Sorry, Mei-Mei. I've fallen back in love with my old boyfriend Duo and I'm going to leave you now. Have a safe trip back to China." Gods, if he did that may the gods strike him down. He was NOT going to do that.

But how was he going to do it then? How? He had already made amends with Duo and now Duo waited back at the house for him. He was going to move from China back to the states and work for Duo's company. He was going to live with Duo and they were going to have a good life. Or at least he hoped. Right now he had to get past this huge problem with telling Meiren the truth and having to hurt Meiren. He still loved Meiren in a way but his heart completely belonged to Duo and it was going to stay like that whether or not he liked it.

Trying to calm his jumpy nerves, Wufei slid the keycard through and pushed open the door. He looked around the seemingly empty room until she spotted Meiren at the window dressed in a long purple Chinese dress with a Mandarin collar. Her hair was left down and it flowed down mid-back.

"Meiren?" he called out tentatively.

"Where have you been?" Meiren asked.

Wufei felt his blood froze when he heard Meiren's voice. It was...cold. Very, very cold. And filled with bitterness. Fear shot through Wufei and he couldn't breathe for a moment. Gods, she knew. That was all that was running through his head as he stood there.

"I've been out with an old friend," Wufei said quietly. "Meiren, I have something to tell you."

"Wufei, do you love me?" Meiren asked abruptly, her back still turned him.

Wufei took a deep breath. "Yes..."

"Liar," Meiren accused. She turned around, her face white and her eyes hard as she stared at Wufei in hatred and anger. "You lie to me, Wufei. How could you? Why didn't you ever tell me that you had another lover? Why did you lie to me?"

"Meiren--"

"Stop lying to me!" Meiren shouted angrily. "How long have you been lying to me? Who is this Duo?"

"How did you know?" Wufei asked, shocked.

"I found that note. I was going to throw it away but something happened...Who's Duo?" Meiren demanded.

"Duo is my lover," Wufei said truthfully.

"For how long??" Meiren demanded thickly. "For how long have you slept with this Duo behind my back?"

"I've been in love with Duo since I was fifteen years old, Meiren," Wufei said, his face utterly calm and smooth. He felt bad for Meiren but...Duo, he would always love Duo and would give up everything for Duo. He only felt bad that Meiren had been the unlucky person to be rebound.

"Fifteen?" Meiren whispered in shock. "You have been...I don't understand."

Wufei was silent for a moment. Then he spoke. "I met Duo when I was in high school and I still lived in America. He was my boyfriend and we loved each other very deeply. But then my mother moved to China and I never got to see him ever again. Then I got this business job and it turned out the person I was suppose to meet up with was Duo..."

Meiren held up a hand to silence him. Her face was completely pale and tears were slipping down her face as she stood there with one had clenched into a tight fist.

"You have loved a man all this time and you never told me?" she asked painfully.

"How was I suppose to know?" Wufei demanded. "I didn't...Meiren, I love you but I've always loved Duo. You understand don't you?"

"Oh, I understand all right. I know see it clearly that this whole time I thought we were in love it was all lie! A complete lie! I've loved you for over four years and it was all a lie in the end!" Meiren shouted angrily. "Do you understand what kind of pain you've inflicted on me? I loved you, Wufei. With all my heart! Yet, this whole time it's been a total and complete lie!"

"No! It hasn't! I do--"

"Stop!" Meiren pressed her hands over her ears and shook her head almost childishly. "Stop! I don't want to hear it! I don't! Stop lying! GET OUT OF HERE!" She picked up a pitcher of water and threw it at Wufei.

Wufei dodged it quickly. "Meiren--"

"GET OUT!"

Wufei stood there for a moment and watched as Meiren cried. "I'm so sorry, Meiren."

"Just GET OUT!" Meiren choked out as she turned her back on him. "Just, get out. I don't want to see you ever again, you bastard."

"I'm sorry," Wufei whispered again before he turned and left the room.

Meiren stood there for a long time, just crying. Then she threw herself on to the bed and sobbed until she finally fell into an exhausted sleep.

"I've hurt her, Duo," Wufei whispered as he curled up in Duo's embrace and just sat there. They were at Duo's place and curled up on the couch as Wufei recounted everything that had happened. "I've hurt her, what can I do to make it better?"

Duo smoothed back Wufei's hair and sighed. "I'm sorry, Wufei. But all she can do is accept it and let go."

"Are you sure?" Wufei asked, sounding so unsure that it broke Duo's heart.

"I'm sure," Duo whispered as he leaned down and kissed Wufei gently. "With time the wounds will heal."

"I hope so," Wufei murmured as he laid his head on Duo's shoulder and held him tightly.

Duo smiled as he held Wufei tightly against him. <I'm sorry, Meiren, for whatever you've lost. But he's mine. He's always been mine and I'll cherish him forever. I'm never going to let him leave me ever again.>

"What are you thinking, Duo?"

"About how much I love you," Duo answered while he slowly began to tickle Wufei.

"Hey! Ah! D--uo! Stop!" Wufei gasped as he tried to wiggle out of his lover's hold.

"Sorry, but I'm having too much fun," Duo said wickedly.

"DUO!!"

A Few Days Later...

Wufei watched as Meiren's plane took off from the window. He pressed his hand to it and sighed before turning around and walking back over to Duo.

"It's done. She's gone back to China. I'll be going back in a few more days to tie up loose ends and then we'll plan the rest of our life together, won't we?" Wufei asked as he smiled up at Duo.

"Exactly that," Duo said, nodding as he reached out and folded Wufei's hand with his own. "Come on, let's go home."

Wufei grinned and nodded as he leaned against Duo and kissed him on the cheek. "Yes, home. Finally, after all these years I'm finally home."
