"Gods, is it only Thursday?" Wufei mumbled as he walked into the kitchen and sat down. He folded his arms and his head came down on the table with a slapping thwack! as his forehead connected with his forearm and hand. He was so tired. He hadn't expected to come home so late but the party had continued to 3 in the morning and Duo had done a pretty good job convincing him that staying till the party ended was a good decision.

In the end it was worth it but he was so tired he was amazed he had been able to make it pass the front door. Of course afterwards some servants had to carry him upstairs and he just forgot everything from the moment his head hit the soft pillow of his bed.

But now he had a dull headache from drinking just a little too much alcohol. Maybe he should have laid off on the drinks--seeing his alcohol tolerance wasn't all that great--but he had been having such a good time that he didn't care and drank more than he used to. Thank the gods he only suffered a headache and not a full-blown hang over he knew a lot of people at the party would be getting.

The party had gotten a little crazy around midnight and people were drinking more and dancing harder and making more stupid jokes. If people actually thought the rich partied like neat people till the very end they were very wrong. Even rich folk let loose and drink till their too sick to move. In fact, they were probably worse than the normal parties he remembered going to when he was in high school and in college.

"Yes, it's Thursday," Heero said as he limped around the kitchen looking for his mug. Mrs. Nancy had had an emergency earlier that morning and had to leave so both men were left to make their own food since they had woken up too late.

"Gods, it can't be. It has to be Saturday. Please tell me it's Saturday," Wufei groaned as he straightened before weaving and dropping his head back down on the table. He would have hit the wood if his arms hadn't still been crossed.

"Maybe you should call in sick," Heero suggested as he finally found his favorite mug that had the words 'Doesn't Compute' printed across the white gloss of the mug. He then limped over to the coffeepot and poured himself a steaming cup of pure ambrosia and caffeine.

"Call in sick? Ooh, that sounds nice," came Wufei's muffled reply.

Heero rolled his eyes and swallowed some coffee. "Then why don't you do it?"

"'Cause I have work," Wufei replied slowly.

"So?"

"So what?"

"My, this conversation is hitting a familiar spot," Heero said dryly as he swallowed more coffee. He limped slowly over to the table and sat down carefully. "Gods, I hate having a bum ankle."

"Mmm-hmm."

"Wufei?"

"Mmm?"

"Wufei?"

"Hmm?"

"WUFEI!"

"WHAT?!"

"Nothing. Just wanted to make sure you were still alive," Heero said as he swallowed more coffee and watched his friend in amusement.

"You know, I hate you right now," Wufei said darkly as he lifted his head and glared at his friend.

"Hmm?" Heero smiled brightly as he sipped his coffee.

"Oh, shut up!" Wufei exclaimed in disgust. He stood up quickly and immediately regretted. His head pounded from the sudden rush of movement to it and everything was spinning a bit. He blinked and moaned as he slid back down into his seat and buried his poor head in his arms. "I hate you..."

Heero sighed and struggled to his feet. "I don't get it. You're not the one with the bum ankle but I'm the one doing all the work!" He rummaged through the cabinets until he found the aspirin. Then he got some water and set it down in front of Wufei. "There. Swallow the pills and you'll feel fine later. I'm going to call you in sick."

Wufei reached out blindly and grabbed the pills. Then he popped them into his mouth and swallowed the glass of water. Afterwards, his head went back to its original position and he prayed that the aspirin would just work faster than normal. Like Superman fast.

"Hey--" *poke* "you still alive in there?"

"Shut up and go away," Wufei exclaimed, then winced as a laser like shot of pain seared through his already pained head. "I hate head aches. They're evil."

"Alcohol is evil but that isn't stopping you," Heero said, smirking.

"Shut up," Wufei groaned. "I'm in pain right now."

"Quit your whining. Everything will be okay once the pills kick in."

"I wish it would just kick in faster."

"Give it time, oh Impatient One. Until then, what do you want to eat?" Heero asked.

"Nothing. I'll just end up hurling it all back out into the porcelain throne or on you. Preferably you since you're not making this head ache any easier."

"Yeah, I love you too, Wufei," Heero said sarcastically as he moved around the kitchen to find something to eat.

"How was the party?" Quatre asked on the other line. Duo was at his club taking care of anything that needed to be taken care of. Owning a club wasn't just having a big dude stand at the door and collect money. There was the food, drinks, music, cleaning crew and tons of other things to take care of. Like the bills. Which was exactly what Duo was doing at that moment while he talked with Quatre on his cell phone. Well, actually the earpiece connected to the phone in his pocket. He needed both hands to work, thank the gods for good technology.

"It was good," Duo said with a big grin as he punched in some numbers into his calculator and pressed the 'equal' key. He then quickly wrote down the number and started with another set of numbers. <Ack, it's a relief I'm actually good at math...But then, does it really take a genius for this? [1]>

"Really? I saw you dancing..." Quatre trailed off. Duo could almost see the large grin on his friend's face.

"Yeah, it was fun," Duo agreed as he continued to work out the bills. <I should get a manager for this. Then no more stupid bills to look at. I just get someone else to pay them for me.>

"Fun? That's it?"

"What are you getting at?" Duo asked, smirking as he wrote down another number.

"You know perfectly well what I'm getting at," Quatre said, laughing.

"Yes, that was...very fun," Duo said in a casual voice.

"You're not going to tell me how it was, are you?" Quatre asked, annoyed with his friend's evasion of the question.

"Nope, I'm not. You were there, you should have known what was going on," Duo told him matter-of-factly.

"But I was so busy taking care of everything! I couldn't just stand there and watch," Quatre protested.

"So? Too bad," Duo said dryly.

"You're mean."

"Oh, don't be like that, Quatre."

"You are! I mean...You won't tell me."

"Of course not. Not yet anyway. Not until I win the bet."

Quatre snorted. "You really think you'll win?"

"You saw what happened tonight, of course I'll win."

"I was busy, remember?" Quatre shot back.

"Hn. You're loss."

"Oooh!!"

Duo laughed.

"Whatever. Trowa needs me right now. I'll call you back tonight."

"Don't bother."

"Why not?" Quatre asked curiously.

"I'm going out tonight."

"Again?"

"I only have a few more days to go. I think it's gonna be either today or tomorrow," Duo said nonchalantly.

"Ha! We'll see," Quatre exclaimed. "All right...I really need to go now. Bye!"

"Bye. And tell Trowa 'hi' for me," Duo added before he hung up. He took his earpiece off and stuffed it into his pocket before he continued working on his bills while thinking about his date.

Riiinnng!!

"Hello?"

"Wufei."

"Duo! Good morning!"

"Good morning to you too. Something wrong? I tried your office since I thought you'd be there today but then I got your secretary and she said you called in sick."

"Yeah, I can't handle alcohol," Wufei sighed as he won another game of solitaire.

"No fair, you're cheating. I know it!" Heero exclaimed behind him. The Japanese man had been over his shoulder the whole morning since he told him that he could win almost any solitaire game.

"Oh, shut up," Wufei chuckled.

"What?" Duo asked, sounding confused.

"Oh! Nothing. Well, I was just telling Heero to shut up. He thinks I can't win a game of solitaire."

"You're cheating. I know it! No normal person can win three games straight," Heero said, shaking his head as he reached out and placed his hand over Wufei's hand. Then he quickly started a new game and moved back a bit. "Try again."

"He sounds pretty close," Duo said a bit dryly.

"Yeah, he was starting a new game," Wufei said as he started playing the game again. He turned and smirked up at Heero. "You'll see me win another one, Heero."

"So, I was wondering..."

"Yes?" Wufei asked as he pulled an ace up to one of the four squares at the top of the screen.

"There's this carnival tonight at the beach and I was wondering if you'd like to join me," Duo asked.

"Really? Will there be anyone else?" Wufei asked as he moved his king to an empty space.

"Actually, I thought it'd just be you and me," Duo said in a slightly husky voice.

Wufei had to supress the slight tremble going through his body at the sound of Duo's voice.

"That sounds nice," Wufei said softly as he stopped playing for a moment, his attention completely on Duo.

"Really? That's great. I'll come pick you up around 5 o'clock, is that all right with you?"

"That sounds perfect," Wufei said, grinning.

"I'll see you tonight then. Good bye, Wufei."

"Bye."

*click*

"What was that?" Heero asked as he nudged his friend so that Wufei would continue playing the game.

"Oh, Duo asked me I'd like to go out to the beach for a carnival," Wufei said as casually as possible as he moved a few cards around.

"Hmm...Really? And you said yes?"

"Of course. I thought it'd be nice."

"I thought you were going to stay away from him."

"Well...ah..."

"Was he at the party last night?"

"Yes."

"Figures," Heero muttered.

Wufei sighed. "Sorry...But I like him a lot, Heero."

"Ah, I don't care. I just don't want anything bad to happen."

"Maybe he was a player but I think he's sincere this time," Wufei said quietly as he continued to shift a few cards around.

"They always come off that way."

"Heero, that's a bit pessimistic."

Silence...

"You lose," Heero said triumphantly as he saw Wufei was stuck and couldn't make any more moves.

Wufei sighed. "I got distracted."

"No kidding. Shove over, I wanna play now," Heero declared.

Laughter, loud talking and shouting could be heard mixed in with cheesy carnival music as Duo and Wufei walked closer and closer to the fair held on the pier of the beach. The lights from the large ferris wheel flashed merrily, lighting up the night sky. It seemed like everything was being turned on and the whole place was a giant lightbulb of colors.

There were all sorts of people there. Children, teenagers, adults, grandparents. They all chattered happily and bought tons of sweets to eat whlie riding on anything they stumbled upon. There were alsoe some teenage boys throwing up into a trash can, one of them was holding some cotten candy while the other had ice cream all over his hand and it was dripping steadily into a small puddle of melted ice cream on the floor.

Everything was loud but fun.

"Wow...This place is nice," Wufei said, grinning as they entered the carnival ground.

"Yeah, now let's go and have some fun!" Duo shouted as he grabbed Wufei and tugged him towards the ticket booth.

~*~

A few hours later...

"Ooh...I don't feel so good," Wufei complained as he threw away his ice cream soda in the near-by trashcan.

Duo laughed as he shoved some more of the cotton candy into his mouth. "I told you not to drink that stuff and then go on the Hammer."

"I honestly thought I'd be okay," Wufei groaned as he leaned heavily against Duo. "Really." He closed his eyes and pressed his face into Duo's arm shoulder and sighed softly.

Duo smiled as he wrapped an arm around Wufei's waist and supported the other man as they continued to walk slowly around the carnival.

"What do you want to do next?"

"Rest? I'm tired and my stomach isn't agreeing with me."

"Just don't throw up on me," Duo chuckled as he helped Wufei walk over to the bench not so far away. He gently helped the Chinese man down onto the seat and sat down beside him. Wufei promptly fell against him and closed his eyes.

"I've never had so much fun before," Wufei finally said after a while. "I mean...Madame Butterfly was really nice but this is...this is real fun."

"Yeah. I knew you'd like it," Duo said, grinning.

Wufei raised his head, a smile playing along his lips. "Oh, really?" he asked teasingly.

Duo tapped Wufei's nose and grinned. "Yes, really."

Wufei smiled warmly and buried his face in Duo's neck. "That's nice." He breathed softly, his warm breath washing across Duo's skin. Duo reached out and pulled Wufei closer until he was rested comfortable against his chest.

"You make a nice pillow, Duo," Wufei murmured as he moved around a bit until his head was lying on Duo's lap. Then he was asleep.

Duo blinked and stared at Wufei's peaceful expresson. He would have believed Wufei actually trusted him enough to fall asleep in front of him but then the Chinese man had just fallen asleep in a crowd. Shaking his head, Duo brushed out and brushed Wufei's hair out of his face. <Gods, he really is beautiful.>

"Hey, Wufei," Duo whispered softly near the Chinese man's ear. "Wufei."

"Hmmm...?"

"Do you want to go home now?"

"Sure, Duo...Let's go home," Wufei murmured as he snuggled closer and went still.

Duo laughed softly and lifted Wufei easily into his arms, he was surprised at how slim the man really was. Ignoring the strange looks thrown his way he began to make his way through the crowd and to the parking lot.

When he finally reached the car he found himself in a bit of a predicament. He couldn't reach into his pockets to get his keys.

<Crap...What am I going to do? I guess I'll just have to put him down.> Duo looked around the place, wondering where he could safely put Wufei. When he couldn't find a spot he finally just gently placed Wufei onto the hood of his car and pulled his keys out of his pocket. He paused and watched Wufei for a moment before he pressed the alarm off and opened the door. Then he picked up Wufei and quickly eased the man into the front passenger seat. He closed the door and ran around the other side and got in. He reached over and lowered the chair before buckling Wufei into his seat.

"What an interesting night," Duo breathed underneat his breath as he started the car and began to back out of the parking space. Then he was on the street and on the way back to Wufei's mansion.
