"What about this one?" Wufei asked as he held out a blue tie. "Do you think this will look good with my suit?"
"I don't see how it matters," Heero said, rolling his eyes as he looked up from his game of solitaire [1]. He was steadily losing the stupid game and that put him in a small pet [2].
"Of course it matters. I wanna look my best, don't I?" Wufei asked as he turned around and continued to look for the right tie for his black suit. He was all dressed and ready except he didn't have the right tie to go along with it. The first few buttons of his shirt were open and he looked like one of those sex-attracting men in the CK commercials. He wasn't going to go to a formal party looking like a sex ad!
"You, Wufei, are too vain for your own good," Heero snorted as he moved another card only to get stuck. "Stupid game," he muttered underneath his breath. "I can never win it."
Wufei smirked when he heard Heero's not so quiet mutter. "Maybe because you don't know how to play it."
"I do too know how to play it!" Heero said defensively.
"Sure, you do," Wufei said absently as he finally picked a black and gray tie and slipped it on. He was so deep in his thoughts of the party and Heero's horrible skill at solitaire that he got the whole thing mixed up. "Argh, I can't believe this." He looked down at the tie and sighed heavily as he tried to untangle it. "Stupid tie..."
"Then why are you wearing it?" Heero asked.
"Because it's only proper."
"What about those clip on ones that everyone wears these days?"
"Those things aren't...I don't know. It's a cheap way to get dressed," Wufei said, shrugging as he continued to try and untangle the tie and his fingers from it.
"Didn't I say something about being vain?" Heero asked archly.
"Oh, shut up," Wufei snapped as he turned around. "And help me with this."
"Can't. I'm on the bed with a bum ankle. Remember?" Heero asked, stretching the 'remember' annoyingly.
"I remember," Wufei muttered as he walked over to Heero and kneeled beside the bed. "Now stop playing that game--cause you know you're going to lose it--and help me with this."
"Pushy, pushy, pushy," Heero said as he closed the game and turned around to help Wufei. He deftly untangled the tie and Wufei's fingers from it with nimble fingers and then quickly made a perfect knot. "There. Happy?"
"Ah, perfect," Wufei said, grinning as he stood up and smoothed his tie down. "Now, I can go to the party."
"Are you telling me that if that tie wasn't fixed you wouldn't have gone?" Heero demanded.
"Yes."
"Baka!"
"Hey, no need for Japanese insults. You still haven't taught me what the word means," Wufei said as he grabbed his shoes and sat down on the edge of the bed to pull them on.
"And with good reason."
"Yadda, yadda, yadda. You're all talk," Wufei grunted as he tied his shoelaces and then stood up. "Okay, so how do I look?"
"You know, I've been hearing those words a LOT lately," Heero remarked as he eyed Wufei critically.
"So?"
"Hmph."
"So??" Wufei pressed.
"So what?" Heero asked, blinking.
Wufei glared at his friend. "How do I look?"
"You look fine."
"Fine? That's it?"
"What do you want me to say?" Heero asked, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
"I don't know," Wufei said, pouting slightly as he crossed his arms as well and half-glared at Heero. "I thought you'd say I was beautiful."
BOP!
"Hey! No fair, I was unarmed," Wufei complained as he reeled from the heavy feather pillow that had connected with his head.
"Shut up and go to the party, Wufei," Heero snorted as he tried not to laugh out loud.
Wufei laughed and nodded as he picked up and threw the pillow back at Heero. "All right. Bye, Heero. I might be back late."
"And I'll be asleep. Be quiet when you come home," Heero told him as he headed for the door.
"Oh, shut up," Wufei shot over his shoulder before he closed the door behind him.

Duo smiled as he watched people pour into the large ball room of the Winner/Barton estate. He was leaned against one wall and sipping a glass of champagne while taking it everything around him. Some people were eating, some where dancing, others were crowded in a small circle and chatted gaily amongst each other. It was a very lively place. Quatre and Trowa moved around the place with the natural ease of two people who pulled off such a large gathering of people before. They greeted guests, made sure the ones who had been around longer were comfortable and made sure the food and service was ready and running smoothly.
Yep, they knew what they were doing.
Cocking his head to the side a bit Duo watched as the women threw some looks at him and smiled flirtatious and inviting smiles. He merely raised his glass to them and smiled. Oh, they were all pretty but he was looking for one particular person and he hadn't arrived yet. It wasn't late so Duo wasn't really worried. Instead, he just stood there and made himself comfortable while watching people have fun. Being the observer was always nice and less energy draining [3].
Duo was sipping his champagne when the object of his thoughts entered the room. He smiled as he swallowed the champagne and licked his lips. <Finally.> He watched as Wufei moved slowly through the many crowds around him, waving and saying hi to those he knew. And that was a LOT of people. Everyone knew about Wufei, one of the richest Chinese men in America and the youngest. Who wouldn't know him?
Wufei looked like he was completely at ease but Duo noticed little things that said otherwise. His beloved Chinese man was a bit nervous being in such a big crowd.
<Hmm...I should go to him and make sure he's okay,> Duo thought as he threw the rest of his drink into a near by plant and dropped the glass on to a passing tray. He brushed his bangs out of his face and started to move slowly towards Wufei, making it look as casual as possible.

Wufei sighed softly as he wondered why he had came in the first place. Sure, functions were fun but he didn't know many of the people here personally. Only a few and they were all so engrossed in their own conversations that there was no hope in mingling with them. He would just have to talk to someone new or someone he knew already but didn't know well. <Too bad I can't be like Quatre or Trowa and move around crowds like this as I really belong.>
He was about to head for the snack table when he bumped into someone.
"I am so--Duo!" he exclaimed in shock as he stared into violet eyes that smiled at him. "What are you doing here?"
"Wufei, it's nice to see you here," Duo said, nodding as he backed up a few steps and grinned at the Chinese man. "Didn't you know? Quatre and Trowa are one of my closes friends."
"Really?" Wufei asked, a bit surprised. "I never knew that at all. How nice!"
"You look uncomfortable," Duo pointed out.
"I do?"
"Well, it's not obvious but there are some little signs. Why don't you come with me and talk till you get comfortable?" Duo offered.
Wufei looked thoughtful before nodding. "All right. Thank you for the offer."
"No problem," Duo said as he led Wufei over to the sides of the crowd where there were less people and grabbed two drinks off another passing tray. They were all over the place. "Here. Have some."
"Oh, I really don't like to--"
"Come on," Duo said, pushing the glass into Wufei's hands without spilling a single drop. "You're chauffeur is driving, right? So don't worry!"
"I guess you're right. But my alcohol tolerance--"
"Wufei, relax," Duo said softly as he raised the glass and took a sip. "Just let go for one night."
Wufei looked down at his glass before looking at Duo. Then he nodded and drank some of the champagne. He grimaced slightly but smiled as he took another sip. Ah, beer was always more gentler on him.
"So, what are you doing here? I thought you'd be home with Heero," Duo said, raising an eyebrow.
Wufei scowled. "I don't always go everywhere with Heero."
"Ah, that's true. I didn't see a Japanese man trail us on our date," Duo agreed, nodding as he raised his glass.
"Oh, that's nice," Wufei said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes. "He's not like that...Or at least not that bad."
Duo laughed. He cocked his head to the side and grinned. "Well, I'm glad he's not here."
"Oh? Why?" Wufei asked innocently as he sipped his drink tentatively.
"Because I get to spend my time with you without having to worry about him showing up at the worst time," Duo said huskily as he took Wufei's drink from him and dropped both glasses into a near by plant--glass and all. "Let's dance."
"Oh no! I remember the last time we danced--" Wufei protested.
"And wasn't it nice?" Duo countered as he pulled the protesting Chinese man to the dance floor where a soft ballad was striking up from the near by orchestra.
"Duo, you promised--"
"So? This is only a friendly dance," Duo said, as he pulled Wufei into a *very* friendly embrace.
"But--But we're dancing in public," Wufei hissed, suddenly very aware of their situation. They were the only men on the floor dancing together. He flushed slightly in embarrassment.
"Wufei, two gays organized and invited these people to this party. I don't think it'll be that strange," Duo said dryly.
Wufei blinked. "Oh yeah."
Duo shook his head and laughed as he pulled Wufei with him. They began to sway gently to the music.
It took a while but Wufei finally relaxed and allowed himself to lean just a little bit against Duo as they danced. Duo was right, it was nice. He smiled as he enjoyed the warm feeling of Duo's arms around him and Duo's cheek pressed against his forehead. He had no idea how they ended up in such an intimate position but he wasn't complaining at all. <Ah, fuck it. I like this so I'm gonna indulge in it.> Letting go of all protests Wufei melted against Duo and closed his eyes as he lost himself into the slow motions of the dance and the music accompanying it.
Duo smiled and silently cheered as he felt Wufei relax against him. He hugged the Chinese man tighter and looked up to meet Quatre's smirking eyes. He was standing next to Trowa and they were both looking at Duo and Wufei.
I win, Duo mouthed over to the Arabian.
Not yet, Quatre mouthed in return. Trowa laughed softly and shook his head as he pulled Quatre away.
Duo just smirked and lowered his head again. <I'll show him.>
~*~
"So, what do you think of the party?" Duo asked as he and Wufei stepped out onto the balcony and leaned against the marble railing.
"It's nice. Quatre and Trowa are good hosts," Wufei said nicely as he looked up at the sky. He smiled. "Don't you just love the night?"
"Yeah. Half of the reason why I own a club. All good stuff happens at night," Duo agreed as he stared at Wufei's profile. <Mmm...He's beautiful.>
"Oh, aside from that. It's beautiful isn't it?" Wufei asked as he blew at a few annoying strands of hair.
Duo suddenly reached out and brushed the hair from Wufei's face, almost faltering when he felt the slight shock going through his fingers at the intimate touch. His heart raced as he stared at Wufei while Wufei stared back at him.
"Duo..."
"Yes?"
"Do you know anything about constellations?" Wufei asked, quickly changing the subject as he turned his head--and away from Duo's fingers.
"Ah, not really," Duo said as he dropped his hand and stared up at the sky. "Do you?"
"A little. My father taught me something about them before he...passed away," Wufei said, nodding. "Afterwards I read a couple of books and sometimes I go out and try to find the constellations I see in the books."
"Do you find them?"
"Not all the time. I don't think I have a good enough imagination," Wufei said ruefully. He laughed quietly and shook his head. "But I got lucky a few times and I did find them." He paused. "It's almost like...trying to find that one special person among so many other persons, you know? I'm not as lucky as some people."
"Really?" Duo asked softly, feeling a bit bad that Wufei thought himself that. "Hey, maybe you're luck will change! You're still young."
Wufei nodded almost absently. He looked at Duo. "What about you?"
"What about me?"
"Do you think you'll ever find that special person?"
Duo snorted. "No. I'm not destined for love."
"Why not?"
Duo looked at Wufei, wondering of the man was teasing him. But Wufei looked completely sincere. He shrugged. "I'm just one of those people."
"I don't know," Wufei said slowly. "The Fates might surprise you." He smiled as he said that.
Duo looked at Wufei and nodded slowly, his expression a bit distant and musing. "Maybe."
"Don't worry, Duo, love will find you," Wufei said, nodding.
<Maybe it already has.>
