Valentine Seduction

By DragonMage

February 3

Duo tapped his fingers along the counter as he stared off at nothing trying to think of a good way to persuade Wufei to go out with him. He knew that the Chinese man was very close to wanting him but was holding back. Why? Duo had no idea and he seriously didn't care. All he wanted was to break through the man and win the bet. But, first he had to make sure he did this right so nothing screwed up. Wufei didn't seem like the type of guy that would just jump into anyone's sack. If Duo wanted that to happen he had to plan every step perfectly.

He was still thinking when his best friend Hilde Schbeiker suddenly plopped down beside him and stared at him for a moment.

"What's wrong?" she asked frankly as she brushed her thick bangs out of her face. "You look...I don't know. Something's bugging you, isn't there?"

"Well, you can say that. I do have this little problem," Duo admitted as he stared down at his drink and then at his cell phone. Hmm...He had already sent some candy and teddy bears to Wufei's private estate but he needed to think of the perfect way to lure Wufei out and keep him within his grasp. He couldn't have another 'polite apology' from the Chinese man. No, he wanted something that would snare and keep Wufei long enough till the bet was won.

"What is it?" Hilde asked.

"I..." Duo looked thoughtful as he tried to put into words what he wanted to do without Hilde going all indignant on him and scolding him on what's right and what's wrong. He didn't need another one. The last one was enough to remind himself to carefully screen his words before using them. "Well, I want to get this guy--"

"Duo, you aren't going to play another one are you?" Hilde asked sternly.

Duo put on his most innocent expression. "I am not! This is serious, Hilde."

"Oh yeah, right," Hilde said, rolling her eyes. "You've got to be kidding me. Wasn't that what you told me last time? And how long were you two together?"

"I don't know. A month?"

"Try a week."

"Hey, I forget," Duo said, shrugging. "And besides, we didn't exactly...'click'. The relationship was fun at the beginning and then it just got boring."

"Oh yeah, I understand," Hilde said sarcastically. "On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday he's THE one for you and then on Thursday, Friday and Saturday you start to lose interest because you saw another THE one. Then on Sunday I never see the guy again. Duo, you're horrible, you know that? I don't know why I even associate with you!"

"Aw, it's because we've been friends since we were in diapers, Hilde," Duo said, grinning cheekily.

Hilde sighed heavily. "Yeah, that's true. I regret the day I met Duo Maxwell. Even back then you were flirting and teasing all those little kids who absolutely loved you for your violet eyes and thick hair."

"Yeah, I know," Duo said smugly.

"And it got worse as you grew up. Look at you now! I just wish you would find the perfect girl or guy and just settle down for once. It'd make me and a lot of other people breathe more easily," Hilde exclaimed.

"Too bad, Hilde. I'm young and the field is still nice and big."

Hilde sighed and blew at her bangs. Then she suddenly became very serious. "Duo, if you don't stop playing with people like this it's going to come back on you and you're going to lose someone you might actually care for."

"What are you talking about?" Duo asked, miffed at Hilde's suggestion.

"What if you do finally meet that one person that makes the world a better place for you? But what if you lose that same person because of what you did in the past and do now?" Hilde paused. "It might not make a lot of sense but if you keep being a player you'll either never find that one person or you're going to lose that one person."

Duo scoffed at Hilde's words. "You've got to be kidding me. Love is NOT for me. Why do you think I even do what I do? It's fun, easy and I don't have to worry about some jealous girlfriend or boyfriend. I'm free."

Hilde shrugged absently as she stood up and prepared to leave. "I don't know, Duo. I have a feeling that might change someday. It always does." She leaned over and gave Duo a friendly peck on the cheek. "My friend, you're going to regret this." Then she turned and left.

Frowning at Hilde's warning, Duo turned back around and swallowed the rest of his drink. <Girl's talking crazy. I'll never fall in love so I don't have anything to worry about,> he thought confidently.

"Lily, what is this?" Wufei demanded as he turned around and gave his secretary an exaperated look. "There are boxes of candy and teddy bears in my office!"

Lily turned red slightly. "I'm sorry, Mr. Chang, but they came for you and I had no idea what to do with them. I mean...They are yours. I just can't leave them someplace where someone can get to it. Besides, I think it's sweet." She lifted her chin determinedly and smiled.

"Lily, please take these out of my office and give them to whomever wants them. I have no need for them," Wufei sighed as he stepped into his office and walked around the gifts that littered it. He couldn't believe Duo was still sending him things after he told the American that he had no desire for a relationship. <He just doesn't give up,> Wufei thought sourly as he sat down at his desk and pulled out his papers.

Lily sighed as she picked up the things she had left in her boss's office and began to distribute them among the office workers. She gave them all away but she kept the note that had went along with them. She had no idea what was wrong with Mr. Chang but whoever was sending these to him was an awfully nice person and she thought it was horrible that Mr. Chang would ignore these things. Besides, she knew the note had something nice and sweet written in it that would convince Mr. Chang to take this person seriously.

With the note clutched in her hands, Lily timidly entered Mr. Chang's office and stopped in front of his desk.

Wufei pushed up his glasses and looked at Lily who was standing nervously yet determinedly in front of him. "Yes?"

"A note came with those things and I thought you'd like to read it," Lily said in a calm voice as she placed a small envelope down on the table before turning on her heel and walking out of the office, closing the door quietly behind her.

Wufei took off his glasses and closed his eyes. <Well, if Lily thinks that note might have something good in it...> He picked it up and opened the envelope. He pulled out the note and read it.

My Dear Wufei,

Ah, it seems you think my intentions for you aren't right. Well, I have to tell you that I honestly want to get to know you better and I wish you would allow me to take you out somewhere and show you how much fun it would be to go out with me. I really do like you, Wufei, you're incredible and I want to get to know more about you.

Please say yes and call me back.

Duo

Wufei slipped the note back into the envelope and was seriously considered getting a restraining order on Duo Maxwell but he couldn't really put his thoughts into actions. Duo seemed like a really nice guy and putting a restraining order on him sounded bad. But what could he do? What could he do to convince Duo that he didn't want a relationship? He already tried at it and it failed. Besides, he had more important things to take care than worry about a relationship. That could always come later.

Slipping his glasses back on Wufei turned his computer and opened a few files and continued the report he had left off on yesterday. But while he worked half of his attention was on Duo. What could he do? He liked Duo but...He just didn't want a relationship. He was comfortable being a bachelor and spending his time alone at home with his books or talking with Heero. He liked it. And it changed when he dated Treize but then it returned to that peaceful, simple state when they broke up. Everything was okay again.

~But have you forgotten how good it feels to have someone to lean on, to kiss and to love?~ a small voice whispered at him. [1]

<Oh, go away,> Wufei snapped at the voice. <I don't need that right now.>

Blinking, Wufei realized he was arguing with himself. He shook his head and sighed softly as he continued his work. He wasn't going to think about Duo or relationships or anything close to it until he was finished with the report. Then he would worry about it. Right now, as always, there were more important things to do.

Half way through the report Wufei realized he wasn't going to get much done. His thoughts kept on wandering back to Duo and Treize and relationships. He glanced at his calendar and saw that Valentine's Day was almost here. <Ugh, of all days...Why this month??> He knew that the Fates were probably screwing with him. Trying to get him to fall into mushy love again around the month of love. Why? He didn't know the reason why but he knew that Cupid was one sadistic little cherub.

<Ack! I'm not gonna think about it! It doesn't matter! Jeez, one stupid guy tries to woo you and you think you're in love. Get a grip, Chang!>

Shaking his head Wufei stopped working and saved the work. Okay, he knew he wasn't going to get anything done today. That was simple.

<All right, Chang. You're not going to bother with this. Just shove all this gushy stuff down into some dark corner of your mind and leave it there. Yes, that's exactly it. Shove it down somewhere and keep telling Duo to go away. That's the best move.>

~Why?~

<Because...because relationships are bad! And I'm on the rebound! Yeah, there ya go...I'm on the rebound and that's dangerous.>

~But he's nice...And he's cute too. What's wrong with that?~

<Everything! Everything...Go away!!>

~Fine...But you're being stupid.~

And then the voice went away to Wufei's relief. He stood up and quickly packed everything up. He didn't need to work at the office. He only did that because it felt nice to go into his office and feel like a true businessman working there. But today it was better if he just went home and made himself comfortable and work there instead of torturing himself like this while seated in his office room where he wouldn't be able to scream in frustration when he wanted to. And damnit, was close to just screaming and kicking his own ass.

<Weak, I am so weak.>

He left the office, locking the door behind him and walked pass Lily even as the Chinese secretary asked him where he was going. He only gave on response. Home.

Heero sighed heavily as he continued to click and type and click and type and download and click and type. Gods, the job was very repetetive. Only a few times did he actually find a good challengling task. Everything else was a pure bore.

When he was finally finished and had nothing else to do Heero decided to take up on his research before his boss gave him that tedious computer work. He closed the files and quickly opened up another one.

<Okay...Let's see what I can find about Maxwell besides the obvious,> Heero thought, happy to have something more productive to do rather than the high paying yet tedious work he had been doing.

His fingers flew across the board as he hacked into several different files without any trouble. Even when the security systems were at their best and the firewalls were their hardest. He was one of the greatest hackers in the country to the distress of the U.S government and there was nothing too difficult for him. Heck, he programed one of the most difficult security systems to bypass.

<Okay, I've already found out his full name, birthday, school history, etc. Now, I need to find something more interesting and that'll help me prove to Wufei that this dude isn't who he seems,> Heero thought determinedly. He loved Wufei and he didn't want to see his friend get hurt again. He almost killed Treize for hurting Wufei but the Chinese man had stopped him and made him swear not to gun down Khushrenada. He didn't break the promise but he wish he could. Gods, did he wish he could. He had very little friends on life and Wufei was his best and closes friend, someone he didn't want to see get hurt because he was new to everything and vulnerable.

Heero found some things of interest but there were no enough. After a while Heero began to notice a pattern in what he found. There were some articles about Maxwell having several boyfriends and then there were also many bills made that were obviously for dates.

<He's a player,> Heero realized as he sat up a bit and continued to read. After a while he began to feel anger boil up inside of him. <He's a player!!> Standing up, Heero shut down the computer and left his office hastily. He had to find some proof. Maybe he could find someone who knew Duo and ask them a few questions. He wasn't going to let Wufei be played with.

"Heero! Where are you going?" Relena Dorlian asked as she ran after the Japanese boy with a file clutched against her chest. Her blue eyes searched Heero's face as she caught up with him. She had been ordered to give him a file but he saw that he was angry about something and decided to ask him what was wrong first. "What happened?"

"Nothing," Heero said stiffly.

"Something happened. Heero, what's the matter? You know you can tell me," Relena said, smiling slightly. "Come on, we're friends, aren't we?"

"I don't know. Is that for me?" Heero asked, nodding at the file that had his name written on it.

"Yeah," Relena said, nodding as she handed the file over. "But seriously, Heero, what's wrong?"

"There's nothing wrong, Relena. Leave me alone," Heero almost snapped as he turned around and quickly left.

Relena sighed as she stood there. <Heero, I wish you would just open up to me. I really like you, you stupid man.> Then she turned and walked back to her office.

Heero was just entering the club when he noticed a girl talking to Maxwell leave the club. He turned around and went after her.

"Hey, excuse me," he said as he caught up with her.

The girl turned around and gave him a small smile. "Yes?"

"Are you a friend of Duo Maxwell's?" Heero asked.

"Yes, I am. What is it? You're not the press, are you?" the girl asked suspiciously.

"No. My name is Heero and I was a bit curious about Mr. Maxwell. Would it be okay if I asked you a few things?"

"I'm Hilde. And it depends on what you're asking," the girl answered.

"I'm asking for a friend. I'm just a little curious about Duo," Heero replied as truthfully as possible.

"Ah." Hilde grimaced a bit. "Afraid for you friend, huh?"

"What do you mean?" Heero asked curiously.

Hilde looked at the Asian man for a while, wondering if she should trust him. But in the end she found nothing really wrong with him and nodded. "All right, we'll talk. Do you want to go to a cafe?"

Heero smiled. "That'd be great."

~*~

"...several boyfriends and girlfriends," Hilde sighed as she stared down at her tapioca drink. She lifted it to her lips and sipped it. "I mean, he's a sweet heart, really he is. But I wish he would stop playing with these people's emotions. You wouldn't believe how many times he's gotten slapped each time he dumps a guy or girl."

Heero nodded a bit stiffly as he drank his tapioca. It was the only thing he could do to keep his mouth shut. He was getting angrier and angrier with each word Hilde spoke about Duo. Obviously, this man wasn't good for his friend that was for sure. <I am going to talk to Wufei. He can't associate with this man!>

"So, I guess I understand why you're afraid for you friend," Hilde said, smiling slightly in understandingly. "But...You know what? I think Duo's going to find the right girl or guy some day. But until then, tell your friend to be cautious. He was a bit distracted by something today. Said he had a problem." Her smile widened. "Maybe he's found the one in your friend."

"I don't think so," Heero said tightly.

"Yeah, well, good luck to your friend. I've got to go. It was nice chatting to you," Hilde said warmly as she paid for her drink and nodded at Heero before leaving.

Heero paid for his drink as well and left a few minutes after she was gone. He hoped Wufei came home early today.

~*~

Wufei was finishing up his report when he heard the front door open and Heero's heavy steps echo through the house. He smiled slightly as he pushed up his glasses and continued to work. <Tonight we might be able to catch a movie or something. I feel like just sitting there watching something and eating popcorn together tonight.>

"Wufei!"

"In my room, Heero," Wufei shouted in reply as he finished up his report triumphantly and hit the print button. He swiveled around in his chair just as Heero walked into his room. He saw immediately that his friend was disturbed over something. "Heero? Something wrong?"

"You're not gonna date Duo Maxwell, are you?" Heero asked bluntly.

Wufei blinked and took off his glasses. "No! I mean, he's all right but I don't want to date him."

Heero sighed in relief. "Good." Then he turned around and left without another word.

Wufei frowned in confusion but said nothing. He could just catch Heero downstairs and ask him about the move later. When the report was printed all out Wufei slipped it into a folder and into his briefcase. He spotted Duo's note on his table and bit his lower lip. He picked it up and read it over again before he looked over at his phone. He almost reached for it but turned away at the last moment.

<No. Tonight I'm going to spend it with my friend and not worry about dating.>

He turned on his heel sharply and went to find Heero.

Oh, my god! I came home late and I didn't get to work on this until 9:40 something and now it's 10:07pm. Man, I thought I was never going to get this done. Excuse the grammer errors, typed in a hurry! Oh, and tell me what you think!

[1] *laughs* I talk to myself. What about you guys?
