February 2
Wufei pushed up his glasses as he continued to type rapidly on his computer. He was working on a report and he hoped to get it done quickly so he would have more time for other things to do. Maybe he would go out tonight with Heero and eat something instead of having Cook fix something for them. He smiled at the thought and continued his work, the words on the screen reflecting off his glasses.
He was half way done when the phone rang. He picked grabbed his headset and slipped it on. Then he quickly hit the 'talk'.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Wufei."
"Duo."
"Aw, you remembered!"
Wufei rolled his eyes and continued his rapid typing. "What do you want, Duo?"
"Oh, I just wanted to say good morning. What are you doing at the office so early? I called your house but your maid told me you already left for work," Duo said.
"Well, I had some things to do so I decided to start on them early."
"Ah, I like the worker type kind of people."
"Really? And why is that?"
"Because it's fun to show them how to have fun, of course," Duo laughed.
"Duo," Wufei sighed. "You're impossible you know."
"Of course I know! So, what are you doing?"
"Like I said. I'm working on a report." Wufei cursed as he typed too fast and his fingers tripped over each other [1]. He erased the words he had mistyped and started over again. He was being distracted by Duo, usually he didn't do this. His fingers always went where they were suppose to go. He sighed softly and continued to type at a slower pace.
"That's nice, Wufei. So, when are you free for a date?" Duo asked casually.
"I don't have any time for a date, Duo," Wufei lied as he squinted at the screen and made some references to his notes before he continued at his steady pace. "I have too much work to do. Besides, I don't think Heero would let me go out with strangers."
"Oh, you tease me, Wufei," Duo said dramatically.
Wufei laughed. "Hardly."
"Well, I was hoping you'd come down to my club," Duo said nonchalantly. "Then we can finally meet and you'll see what a great guy I am."
"You're so confident. Give me time to adjust to your supremeness first, Duo," Wufei said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes, his fingers never stopping their work.
"Damn straight," Duo exclaimed. Then he laughed. "Oh, come on. Stop playing hard to get. I can already hear you like me."
"You're amusing but I hardly like you that way," Wufei responded a bit primly. He bit his lower lip and retyped a sentence that sounded awkward. "You're distracting me, Duo. I can't get this report done right without so many mistakes!"
"Ah-ha! I am getting to you!"
"Not in the way you want it to be."
"You're no fun, Wufei."
"Hn."
"Come on...Just join me for a quick drink. If you don't like me..."
"You'll leave me alone?"
"No. I'll just have to try harder."
"You know, I have half a mind to send Heero after you," Wufei half-threatened.
Duo snorted in amusement. "That body guard of yours? Nice, Wufei."
"Well, I don't exactly know you. You *can* be a stalker."
"I'm not a stalker so don't worry. I already told you that. Just come down to Death's Haven and have a drink with me. Work can wait."
"If you own a club then you'll realize business doesn't run itself and you've got to work so that it doesn't all fall apart."
"Wufei, I seriously doubt that business of yours is going to fall apart anytime soon. It's as solid as cement wall," Duo said dryly. "Come on, one little drink."
Wufei sighed softly. "Very well. If you're so insistent."
"I got to you, Wufei!"
"Oh, stop rubbing it in."
"Hmph. All right, I'll see you tonight then?"
"All right. Tonight," Wufei agreed. Then he quickly hung up and started to really concentrate on his work. He was done with another page when there was a knock on his door. "Come in."
Lily stepped into the room with bouquet of wild flowers and a box of candy. "These just came for you, Mr. Chang." She walked over to Wufei's desk and placed them on top of some papers. "It must be nice to have a boyfriend!" Then she turned and walked out.
Wufei stopped typing and raised an eyebrow at the things lying on his table. Then he picked up the flowers and pulled out the note stuck in there.
Lovely Wufei,
I knew I'd convince you to go out and meet me at Death's Haven. Come around 6 o'clock and dress nicely. You're eye candy, do you know that?
Forever Yours,
Duo
Wufei didn't know whether or not to be disturbed. He picked up the box of candy and smirked slightly. Well, Duo certainly got his message across interestingly enough. He rolled his eyes and set the things aside before he went back to work. He had to get this done so he wouldn't have to worry about it tonight.
<I guess tonight's plans to go out with Heero are off. Too bad.>
~*~
"You're going where?" Heero demanded sharply when Wufei finished explaining why he was all dressed up.
"I'm going out to Death's Haven to meet Duo Maxwell. He called today and invited me before sending in a bouquet of flowers and candy." Wufei gestured to the things lying on the table in his room and shrugged as he buttoned up the last of his red shirt. He turned around and opened his arms. "How do I look?"
"You're crazy! And you look fine," Heero added as an afterthought. He then shook his head, looking a bit disbelieved at what he had just said. "Argh! Wufei, don't go!"
Wufei stared at Heero for a long time. "What's the matter? I'm only meeting him for a simple talk. I'll set him straight and he'll leave me alone."
"Wufei, how can you be so naive?" Heero asked in disbelief.
Wufei smiled and shrugged. "Ah, it's because I'm a rich boy. We're sheltered people, Heero."
"Don't mock me! Wufei, don't do this. Or at least let me come," Heero pleaded. He was worried to Wufei but the damned Chinese man wouldn't listen to him! Chinese people were so obstinate sometimes! He swore Wufei was laughing at him behind those calm eyes of his!
"Heero, I'm not going to have my ex-body guard follow me around. Don't you have work or something to do? What DO you do at the computer company of yours?" Wufei asked as he turned back around and examined himself in the mirror. He wasn't vain but he didn't want to go to the bar looking strange. He used to wear his traditional Chinese clothing around the place until his father died and he took on the business. Afterwards it was business suits and all that "regular" clothing. It was all right but he always did like his Chinese clothing better.
Taking stock of his clothing, Wufei was satisfied at his red silk shirt and black pants with his shiny black shoes. He grabbed his leather jacket and slipped it on.
"I do stuff," Heero said, shrugging. "But don't you think this is a bit dangerous? This guy's been buying you all these things and CALLING you! Don't you see there's something very wrong with that?"
"Heero. I only want to be nice. Besides, it's not like I can't take care of myself," Wufei said dryly.
Heero nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you're right. But I still don't like this, Wufei."
"I feel bad for him okay, Heero. I just want to give him this meeting and make sure he stops this. I don't like it anymore than you do," Wufei muttered as he blew a strand of hair out of his face and turned back around to face Heero. "Stop worrying. Jeez, and you call me 'mother'?"
"Go ahead! Go ahead and get yourself killed, Wufei! I don't care anymore!" Heero then whirled around and stomped out of the bedroom.
Wufei stood there for a moment, then he shook his head and smiled. It had been a while since he last saw Heero Yuy throw a fit. The first time he had ever seen one was when he decided to go to take an impromptu vacation after a summer's load of work--without telling Heero. The Japanese man had been so angry afterwards! Of course, the only way Wufei knew how to deal with a situation like that was to be calm and that infuriated the Japanese man even further. Afterwards, Wufei had never laughed so hard in his life.
Of course Wufei tried his best not to piss Heero off but it was so fun he couldn't help it. He smiled to himself as he straightened out his collar before he turned around and left his room. He knew it was a stupid thing to agree to Duo's meeting but it was too late now and it didn't want to stand the other man up. It was rude and Wufei didn't like being rude. Well, sometimes. Women were very, very annoying when they wanted to be.
"So, you're going to go?" Heero demanded just as Wufei stepped off the last step of the staircase.
"Yes, I am."
"You're crazy."
Wufei took a deep breath and nodded cheerfully. "Well, my sanity has always been questioned. It's not like this isn't normal [2]."
"Gods, I can't believe YOU of all people are one of the most powerful men in America!" Heero said, throwing up his arms. He turned around and muttered to himself--loudly--while stomping off. "Stupid, baka. I can't believe he would be cautious about a business decision yet when it comes to something like this he doesn't give a fuck! Idiot. If he gets killed it's not my fault..."
"I heard that!" Wufei shouted after his friend. Then the turned around and left the house where his car waited outside for him. He wasn't going to take a limo, that was for sure!
"Mr. Chang, when will you be home?" one of the butlers asked as he handed Wufei the keys to the car.
"Oh, I won't be out late. Don't worry about me," Wufei said, smiling as he slid into the front seat and shot off.

Duo waited patiently at the table he had reserved for both him and Wufei. His glass was half empty and he was feeling pretty good. He had managed to convince the Chinese man to go out with him in less than a day. <Shows Quatre a thing or two. This is going to be so easy.> He sipped his drink again, glancing down at his watch before he continued his patient wait. It was still early so there was no point in worrying whether or not Wufei would show up.
Just as the hand reached the appointed time of the "date" Wufei appeared. His long hair was tied back loosely again with a few strands of hair falling into his face. He looked wonderful in his red shirt and black pants. Duo had to admit Wufei was a very, very good looking man. His dark eyes scanned the crowd uncertainly.
Duo smiled charmingly as he stood up and walked over to Wufei. Naturally the other man didn't know how he looked like. As he approached Wufei the Chinese man noticed him and his eyes widened a bit.
"Hello, Wufei," Duo said, smiling as he reached the Chinese man and held out his hand.
Wufei reached out and shook the hand, and Duo was surprised at the strength he felt in the touch.
"So, you're Duo Maxwell," Wufei said, nodding slowly.
"The one and only. Why don't we go over to a table, sit down, have a few drinks and talk?" Duo suggested as he lead Wufei over to the table he had been sitting at. They both sat down and Duo ordered his glass to be refilled while asking Wufei what he wanted.
"Oh, no alcohol. I guess I'll just have a soda," the Chinese man said as he slid out of his jacket and draped it over the back of his chair. The waiter nodded and walked off.
"Isn't it nice to finally meet each other personally?" Duo asked, smiling.
Wufei nodded. "Yes, I suppose you're right."
"Suppose?"
"Well, I'm not exactly sure. It isn't every day I get strange phone calls and flowers from a man I've never seen and then meet him the next day," Wufei said sarcastically.
Duo laughed, amused by Wufei's sense of humor.
Wufei cocked an eyebrow at him. "I see you find that amusing."
"I love your sarcasm," Duo said, nodding while a smile still played on his lips.
Wufei smiled slightly as well. He looked away, suddenly not knowing what to say. When he came to the club he hadn't exactly been sure what to expect. He certainly didn't expect to meet a man with a long braid down his back and teasing violet eyes. He couldn't believe Duo Maxwell looked that good! <Ah, but remember what you told Heero, Wufei. You're not going to get involved,> he scolded himself. <It's too soon and besides, days are busy lately.>
"What are you thinking?" Duo asked in a quiet, husky voice.
Wufei's gaze snapped up and met Duo's questioning one. Wufei could tell by the way Duo's voice and the way the man was looking at him that he was flirting with him. As nice as that was, that wasn't what Wufei wanted. He just wanted an easy conversation before he told Duo to leave him alone. After that, everything would go okay. Or so he hoped. He just didn't want Duo to be as determined as he promised to be.
"Nothing of importance," Wufei said, shaking his head.
"Really? I don't know. Anything that goes on in your head is bound to be important," Duo said, a smile tugging at his lips.
"Hardly," Wufei drawled.
The drinks came and Wufei gratefully busied himself with drinking the soda. He was driving so that meant no drinking. He had already been thoroughly convinced that drinking and then driving was bad. Blame it on the driver's ed teachers who insisted on showing the class the consequences of drinking and driving through graphic videos. He didn't want to end up as jelly on the road because he had been drinking and driving.
Wufei swallowed some more of his soda, preparing to tell Duo what he came here tonight to tell when the other man suddenly reached out and grabbed his hand and pulled him to his feet.
"Come on, let's dance. The music is perfect," Duo said, grinning as he pulled Wufei towards the dance floor.
"No-!" Wufei protested as he was swung around and suddenly pressed waaay too closely to Duo's chest. He tried to pull away but the other man kept a pretty strong grip around him and he couldn't break free.
"Relax," Duo whispered softly into his hear, sending chills down his back. "It's only dancing. I think you'll like it."
Wufei tried very hard not to blush and succeed without a small stain of pink on his cheeks that barely showed up against his bronze skin. Or at least he hoped so. He adjusted himself comfortably and followed Duo's lead as they began to dance slowly to the music played by the band on the stage. They were pretty good, Wufei noted absently as he breathed in Duo's musky scent mixed in with the cologne he was wearing.
"This is nice, isn't it?" Duo asked softly against his cheek.
Wufei nodded mutely and looked away. He knew he should pull away but it felt so nice to be held like this. He smiled a bit sadly as he remembered the times when he and Trieze had danced together alone in his house or at Treize's apartment to music playing from the boombox. He quickly pushed away the thoughts and tried to concentrate on something else...
...Like how nice it felt to have Duo's arms wrapped around him in that warm, intimate way.
Duo smiled as he held Wufei's smaller body in his arms. He could smell the masculine scent coming off from the Chinese man and he had to admit Wufei smelled absolutely delicious. It had been a long time since Duo had someone like Wufei in his arms. <Hmm...This is not so bad.> He pulled Wufei a little closer and he could feel him stiffen. He leaned in close, breathing in Wufei's unique scent and told the other man to be relax again. <He's too tense.>
They danced slowly, not saying a word until the song ended. Then Wufei quickly pulled out of Duo's arms and stumbled back a bit awkwardly.
"That was..."
"Nice?"
"Duo, I don't want this," Wufei suddenly blurted out.
Duo raised an eyebrow. "Really? You seemed to be pretty comfortable a while ago."
Wufei shook his head. "I'm sorry, Duo. But...No. I can't." He rushed back to his seat and grabbed his jacket. Duo followed.
"Wufei, please," the American started.
Wufei shook his head and gave Duo a warning glance. "No. I don't want a relationship. I'm sorry." Then he turned and quickly left the club.
Duo sighed as he leaned against the table and watch Wufei disappear. <It looks like this might be harder than I thought.>
