Destiny's Tapestry

Chapter 7
A.C 195...
"Hey, name's Duo Maxwell."
"Chang Wufei."
Both boys looked at each other, one grinning while the other look impassive. They stared at each other for a long time and both were positive some sort of friendship was forged that day.

"What are you staring at, Maxwell?" Chang Wufei asked his partner.
"That." Duo Maxwell pointed at the weaving that was hung on the wall. It was a tapestry and it was unfinished. He wondered why the weaver didn't finish it. Or maybe, it was just never meant to be finished.
Wufei stared at the tapestry. Then he grunted. "It's not finished."
"Yeah, I know," Duo said, nodding. He pointed to the top of the tapestry. "Look, there's a story in it. See how the pictures each show a different scene?"
"I'm not blind, Maxwell."
Duo grinned at his friend. "I know. But seeing that and then the unfinished part of the tapestry got me thinking."
"About?"
"Life. Destiny. That sort of stuff."
"We're in a war, Duo. Why are you thinking about that kind of nonsense?"
"Because the Fates weave our destiny, Wufei. They weave it and sometimes they leave it unfinished because it isn't finished," Duo explained, not really understand where all of this was coming from. He had been bored and decided to look through the halls of the new safe house when he stumbled onto the tapestry. Staring at it had raised something so familiar inside of him that he couldn't ignore it. "It's still going on even though one part of it has ended, another part will continue on."
Wufei stared at his friend. "What in the Seven Hells are you talking about?"
Duo grinned sadly and shook his head. "Nothing, Wufei. It's not like a guy like you would understand. It's all about fight and win with you, isn't it?"
"No, it isn't," Wufei said, shaking his head. "It's more than that." Then he turned and left.
Duo stared at after Wufei.
~*~
"Wufei! Don't leave me! Please, don't leave me."
Wufei splashed water on his face and sighed as the cold liquid slid off his face. He had those nightmares again. Every time it ended the same one, he died and whoever was his lover died. He didn't understand it at all and it scared him. He had been having these dreams ever since he met Duo and the other Gundam pilots. He didn't like it because he didn't understand it but also understood it too well at the same time.
In the next room Wufei could hear Heero and Trowa talking with each other. They were the most silent of the five of them aside of Wufei himself. But when they were alone together they talked a lot...and make a lot of noise as well. He couldn't count how many times he had woken up in the middle of the night to them doing "it". But at least they loved each other. Wufei knew they wouldn't admit it but he could see it so clearly each time they touched or looked at each other. They might think they're only getting relief from the war but it was more than that. Much more.
Wiping his face dry, Wufei sighed. He had thought about what Duo had said that afternoon and he had a funny feeling that the braided boy was right. He didn't know how or why but what Duo said rung true somewhere inside of him and it couldn't ignore or get rid of it.
Wufei sat down on his bed and turned on the lamp beside him. He picked up the book he had been reading lately and opened it to the last page he had been reading before dinner. He had found the old, battered book in Quatre's library and since it was the only thing he hadn't read before, he decided to read it. It was Romeo and Juliet/West Side Story. Both plays were put in the same book and Wufei was almost done with Romeo and Juliet before he moved on to West Side Story. He had already read Romeo and Juliet before but he had never read West Side Story so it was going to be something new.
A sudden knock on the door brought Wufei out of the world of Shakespeare. For some reason that knock rendered an unexplainable fear inside of him.
Almost cautiously, Wufei opened the door. He was surprised to find Duo standing there, holding a blanket and pillow. The braided boy felt only a little embarrassed as he stood there.
"Hey, Fei, I'm kinda having trouble sleeping. Can I sleep with you?" Duo asked innocently.
Wufei hesitated, then he nodded and stepped aside to allow Duo in.
"Thanks. I don't know what's wrong but I've been having a lot of bad dreams lately," Duo muttered as he fell on top of Wufei's bed and lay there for a moment. He spotted the book and picked it up. "Romeo and Juliet? I never knew you were into that kind of stuff."
Wufei frowned and walked back over to his side of the bed since Duo had obviously claimed the other. "I had nothing else to read."
"Figures. Why would a guy like you read stuff like this?" Duo punched his pillow and slid it underneath his head as he got himself comfortable.
"You make a lot of assumptions about me, Maxwell," Wufei said stiffly as he book marked the play and placed it on his nightstand.
"Have to. There's nothing else to work on," Duo replied before he nodded off.
Wufei sighed and got into bed, turned off the lights and went to sleep. He made sure he was far enough away from Duo less the boy kicked at night.
In the middle of the night Wufei woke up to Duo thrashing in his bed. He frowned irritably and tried to wake Duo up when the boy suddenly wrapped his arms around him and held him close to his chest. Wufei gasped as he felt himself pressed against the other boy in a more then friend like hug.
"Wufei," Duo sighed as he held him. His thrashing had stopped and he was now sound asleep.
Wufei blinked and pushed his hair out of his eyes as he looked down at Duo's face. Or at least he tried--Duo was holding him too tightly.
"Duo," Wufei whispered harshly, a blush working its way up to his cheeks. "Duo! Wake up!"
Duo stirred and slowly opened his eyes. They were filled with an emotion that scared the hell out of Wufei. He wanted to get out of Duo's arms before anything else happened.
"Wufei?" Duo murmured as he closed his eyes and held the boy tighter. "Don't leave me. Please, don't leave me."
Wufei swallowed hard as his eyes dilated. Those words...Wufei felt like he was going to start hyperventilating.
"Duo, wake up. Let me go, Duo!" Wufei tried to pull out of Duo's embrace but the other boy was too strong.
Suddenly Duo woke up. "Wufei? Oh man! I'm so sorry!" Duo immediately released Wufei who rolled over to his side of the bed and stayed there, trembling with his back turned to the American. Wufei had never felt so afraid in his life.
"W-wufei, I'm soo sorry!" Duo stuttered. "I didn't mean--I'm really sorry. I'll go now."
Wufei felt the bed shift as Duo got off and head towards the door.
"Wait!" Wufei turned around and sat up. He reached over to turn on the lights to see Duo poised at the door, ready to dart out of the room. He looked over to Wufei apprehensively, wondering if the Chinese boy was gonna kill him.
"Wait," Wufei repeated more softly.
"I'm really sorry, Wufei. I didn't mean to..." Duo trailed off, embarrassed.
"What's to be sorry about?" Wufei suddenly said, remembering the words from his nightmares.
Duo felt his heart tighten at those familiar words.
"You have given me the best last weeks of my life. I've never been loved like that before. There's nothing to be sorry about. I'm okay, Duo. I love you. Wo ai ni, my life. I'll see you in the next life," Wufei continued with a shocked expression on his face. Duo mirrored his perfectly. They both couldn't breathe for a moment.
"Have I been talking in my sleep?" Duo laughed nervously.
"No, those were my words," Wufei said softly, his heart beating insanely in his chest as he stared at the boy he had possible known in another life. Loved in another life...Was it really possible?
Duo paled even more and stared at Wufei. "You don't think--?"
"We have a lot to talk about," Wufei said, his voice cracking slightly.
Duo nodded and walked back over to the bed. Yes, they did have a lot to talk about.

A Few Months After the End of the War...
"Are you sure about this?" Duo asked nervously as he followed his lover.
"I'm sure. I want to confirm what we believe," Wufei said firmly as he grabbed Duo's hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "It's been a long time and China's changed a lot. We're not even sure if their graves are gonna be here despite what the papers say."
Duo nodded his amethyst eyes wide and nervous. "I still have a strange feeling about this."
"So do I but I want the truth," Wufei said quietly. They continued walking to the area of the cemetery where the Dragon Clan had been buried in the past before they had been exiled into space.
They reached the plots.
Duo looked at Wufei again and saw the determination there.
"They're here," Wufei whispered, surprised. "They're still here."
Duo stared down at the old gravestones and almost passed out. There on the gravestones said 'Chang Wufei' and 'Duo Maxwell' right beside each other.
"They still had the same names as us. Or we have the same names as they did," Duo managed to choke out. "I don't know."
Wufei turned and looked at Duo. "This is..."
"Weird?"
"Yes."
"Let's get out of here. We've seen them, it's been confirmed, now let's get our asses outta here!" Duo grabbed Wufei's hand and tugged but the other boy wouldn't budge.
Wufei bent down and placed a rose on each of the graves. He stood up and faced Duo.
"All right, let's go," he said, nodding. Duo grabbed his hand and they were off. He had never ran so fast before in his life even as a Gundam pilot.
~*~
"Wufei," Duo sighed as he snuggled up to his lover.
"Hn."
"Come on, you've got to have more energy than that."
Wufei snorted. "You literally sucked all of that out!" He closed his eyes and prepared to go to sleep.
Duo laughed and just pressed himself closer to his exotic lover. He rested his head on Wufei's chest and sighed contently. He had never been so happy before in his life. Or at least in this life. In his last life he probably did the same things he was doing with Wufei now. It was all strange and boggled the mind.
"What are you so amused about?" Wufei asked as he stroked his long fingers through Duo's silky hair.
"Mmm...Don't stop," Duo purred.
Wufei chuckled.
"I was just thinking about us," Duo said after a moment. "We've been together longer than any couple I know."
Wufei laughed this time. "I know."
"Do you think we should tell the others? They seem to think that they've been together longer than us. Even Quatre and Zechs have been together longer! They had been meeting secretly during the war before they finally came out and admitted it," Duo said, shaking his head in disbelief as he thought back to the day when both of the blond lovers had told them what was going on. Wufei seemed to expect it but he, Heero and Trowa were pretty shocked.
"Actually," Wufei said lazily as his hands wandered lower. "I think we were all pretty much together for a very long time."
"What do you mean?" Duo asked, looking up at his lover. He shivered as Wufei's fingers danced lower.
"The dreams, Duo. Remember the dreams," Wufei said as his hand moved even lower. Duo gasped and pressed tighter again Wufei, almost moaning at his lover's light touch.
"What--about them?" Duo gasped as Wufei continued to please him with his talented fingers.
"Heero and Trowa were also together, and so was Quatre and Zechs. We knew them in the past," Wufei said as Duo shifted on top of him to give him better access to certain body parts.
"Oh yeah," Duo moaned.
"Is that an agreement to what I'm saying or doing?" Wufei asked wickedly.
"Both," Duo groaned. "Gods, I'm all hot now and it's all your fault."
Wufei pulled Duo in for a kiss. "And you love me for it."
Duo just moaned.
