The Angel's Decision

Notes: This is not exactly a sequel but just another "book" to my vampire story. Actually, I'm not sure. Well, call it whatever you want. It's just another vampire story branching from another. *smiles*

Chapter 1

Three Years Later...

Quatre Raberba Winner smiled as he shoved the last of his boxes into his new apartment, grinning the whole way through. He straightened and brushed his damp bangs from his face, his bright blue eyes sparkling happily. <Finally! I'm living on my own!> He thought excitedly as he looked around his apartment. His!

He was finally eighteen years old and a legal adult (although he couldn't drink), and now he was living on his own. College was going to start in a few days so he needed to unpack as quick as possible and get settled before classes started and he might be too busy to finish unpacking. Imagine that, living in an apartment for months and it's still not all unpacked.

All through high school he had worked hard to make it into Harvard. To get into one of the most top and prestigious schools in the U.S and make his family proud of him. Now it all paid off and here he was! Even when he fell into depression for that semester after his best friend Duo Maxwell ended up missing didn't truly effect his grades. He just worked harder and was able to make up for that semester.

Suddenly thinking of Duo sent a pang of sorrow to Quatre's heart. His best friend had ended up missing around the end of their first semester of sophomore year. Quatre remembered when Duo had told him about vampires and about all his paranoia. He hadn't believed Duo at all, he just thought his friend was being stalked and was losing his mind. He was only fifteen, what could he do for his friend? Nothing, since only a few days later Duo's mom was found dead in her house and Duo missing after the police talked to him. They never found any sign of him afterwards and the case was left unsolved. The police weren't going to deal with it, even after Duo's father's vehement insistence.

Running his fingers through his thick blond hair Quatre resolutely told himself to stop thinking about the past and start thinking about the future. He had to worry about that first and foremost. No more dwelling in the past and mourning Duo's death, he was past that.

Taking a deep breath Quatre went down to work.

"Boston?" Duo Maxwell repeated as he stared across the short distance at his lover who was reading the newspaper calmly. "What are we going to do in Boston?"

"Oh, Treize and Zechs have gotten tired of San Francisco. We have been staying here for over two decades and they've tired of it. They want to go back to Boston."

Duo blinked. "So, do we just up and leave?"

"Of course not. We have to pack. Vampires always travel in style," Chang Wufei said with a wicked smile. He folded up the creased newspaper and dropped down at his feet with the rest of the books he had almost literally breathed in at the rate he had read them in. The whole library was always being refreshed with new books from what Duo saw. Treize and Wufei always seemed to read every single book in the library in a few days and they always needed new ones. That, and, Zechs had a strange habit of burning books when he was bored.

Duo, himself, didn't really read unless he was bored or if a book caught his attention. He never read when he was a mortal though; he hated books. But with this new, strange vampiric ability to read a whole book within a space of a few hours wasn't so bad. All he had to do was pick up a book and flip through it casually till he was finished, there was no effort to it.

"Style, huh?" Duo asked with a slight smile. "So, we just pack up and move all our stuff to Boston?"

"Exactly that. We pack, close this house and take a plane over to Boston. Zechs has an apartment suite under his name over there so we have a home. In fact, after Boston do you want to go to England?" Wufei asked thoughtfully.

Duo laughed and shook his head. "I've been with you guys for three years and I still can't believe that we can do anything we want! If we want to go someplace, we just do. No one holds us back."

"Of course not, Duo, we're vampires," Wufei said, smiling. "You will get used to it though. You're still a fledgling and everything is still new. We haven't showed you everything."

"Oh, I'm ready to learn."

"Good. Come on, let's go to our room and start packing. Treize and Zechs should be back from their hunt in half an hour and we'll be ready by then," Wufei said, standing up. He reached up and pulled Duo to his feet. "Come, love." He planted a quick kiss on Duo's forehead and smiled.

Duo smiled back as he allowed himself to be led to their rooms. Three years. He had been living with this wonderful vampire family for three years although it felt like a lifetime. Actually, it probably was a lifetime. His vampire lifetime. Treize and Zechs were going to take legal custody of him but then they just forgot about it and no one cared. He remembered he had been proclaimed missing on the news and they just left it at that. No point at passing up a perfectly good opportunity of animosity.

His father had tried to get the police to continue the search for him but the police didn't care in the end. It was case closed and there was no point in pursuing a case that had no answers. Treize and Zechs had also made sure that everything went smoothly and in the end it was all kept quiet. Of course, by now everyone has forgotten about him save close friends and his father, maybe. He didn't care. He was living a wonderful life with Wufei, his lover, and Treize and Zechs whom he liked to tease by calling 'grandfather' since they were Wufei's fathers and he was Wufei's child.

Overall, life as a vampire was wonderful. Every night he and Wufei went out to feed on the populace, sometimes they went to clubs; sometimes they went to restaurants and ordered whatever they wanted though they never touched the food. It was just for the sake of seeing it and smelling it. Plus, he liked driving the waiters crazy by ordering everything and never eating it but merely sitting there with Wufei chatting happily while people tried not to stare. They would, of course, pay for the food in the end although it seemed like a good waste sometimes. So, to make up for it, they would pack up the food, go to the local orphanage and give it over to them. Despite being a pretty vicious vampire Wufei had a gentle heart when it came to orphan children. Probably because he had been orphaned when he was a mortal.

Duo smoothed his hands over the beautiful railing of the stairs as he and Wufei walked up them. This was his first home as a vampire and he loved it although Zechs told him that there were other homes much more beautiful that they owned. But Duo still believed this would be his most favorite of all the houses. He loved sliding down this banister only to be caught by Wufei no matter how fast he went. His lover had such a strong grip and always caught him neatly. He was never afraid of getting hurt when he had Wufei. He knew, always, Wufei was going to protect him.

Once in a while they spotted other vampires in San Franciso. Sometimes they spotted Louis walking around with that most humane expression on his face as he searched for someone to feed on. He was as old as Wufei, although Duo wasn't sure which was older. At times they spotted an even older vampire such as Pandora or Armand. It was a bit unnerving sometimes but neither Treize, Zechs or Wufei seemed the least afraid of these older vampires. They merely smiled and sometimes sent out a greeting before moving on.

Duo smiled slightly as he took in the old paintings hung up on the hallway walls, beautiful things that Treize and Wufei had collected over the years. The only things that Zechs ever collected were more modern things such as cars and motorcycles or computers. He loved modern things. The kitchen was furnished nicely with modern appliances although they had no uses for it. Occasionally Zechs put some use to the microwaves and 'nuked a rat or a spider but that was about it. Afterwards he would just shrug and throw it into the trash before going off to find something new to amuse him.

Wufei found Zechs impossible, and there was no counting how many times the two bicker and fight before either Treize or Duo stepped into stop it before they did something stupid. Afterwards, though, one or the other would do their damndest to apologize and that usually ended up with Duo and Treize alone with each other.

"What are you thinking about?" Wufei asked lightly as they stepped into their room. Wufei waved his hand and all the candles lit up in the room. Modern lights were always too bright so they still used the nice dim lighting of candles. "You have a wicked smile on your face."

"Oh, nothing," Duo said innocently as he walked over to the bed and lay down on the plush thing. He liked sleeping in the bed sometimes when he and Wufei fell into a mortal sleep on it rather than going downstairs to their coffins. It was comfortable and there was no rule that they had to sleep in a coffin during the day. They could sleep anywhere they wanted so long as they were out of the sun.

"Nothing, huh?" Wufei repeated as he threw open the closet and pulled out a suitcase. He stopped and straightened. "Should we pack or just buy a whole new wardrobe in Boston? Their fashion might be different..."

"It's your choice, Wufei," Duo said as he moved up high on the bed and laid out comfortably.

"Hmph. Some help you are," Wufei sniffed.

"Yeah, love ya too," Duo murmured as he allowed himself to sink into the thick covers and pillows around him. Ah, living the luxurious life of a vampire was a very, very good thing.

"Sure you do," Wufei drawled as he stood there with his hands at his waist and a small frown on his face. "I'll just pack for the sake of packing."

"Wonderful," Duo agreed, waving his hand in a dismissive gesture.

"You're not listening to a single word I'm saying, are you?" Wufei pouted.

"Of course I am," Duo said, nodding. "I always listen."

"Oh, really?"

"All right, that was *one* time," Duo said, sitting up defensively. "How was I supposed to know trying to eat chocolate again would make me sick?"

"I *told* you, Duo. Didn't I tell you chocolate or anything other human food will get you sick? But did you listen? Nooo," Wufei said, shaking his head. "You just had to see if you could eat chocolate. Just had to!"

"Hey, I'm still alive, though, huh?" Duo asked cheekily.

"Barely," Wufei muttered.

"Ugh, last time I try to do that. Mortal food is poison, I tell ya!"

"No, I told *you*."

Duo gave Wufei a dry look. "You're not gonna let it go, are you?"

"No, I'm not. I'm going to rub it in your face until I feel if you've learned your lesson. I was going to have a heart attack when I came into the room with you throwing that stuff back up. Vampires don't throw up!"

"Can vampires have heart attacks?" Duo asked thoughtfully.

Wufei threw up his arms and stalked over to Duo. He grabbed Duo by the shoulders, tempted to shake the other vampire senseless, only to end up hugging his love close to him while smoothing his hands over that wonderfully thick hair.

Duo nuzzled Wufei's neck as he laid his head on his sire and lover's shoulder.

"Duo, you know you shouldn't do something stupid like that," Wufei murmured.

"I know. It was only once though. I just missed the taste of chocolate."

"Trust me, after living life as a vampire for a while you won't care about chocolate and other sweets that you loved in your mortal life. Blood will always sate that craving."

"Mmm..." Duo almost felt like purring out loud. He loved the feeling of being held in his sire's arms, the strong prenatural hug that always made him feel safe and loved. He never knew this kind of intimate love with anyone before and it thrilled him to the bone to share this kind of love with Wufei and some of it with Treize and Zechs.

"I love you, Duo, and I don't want to lose you in anyway," Wufei whispered softly as he reached out and broke the rubber band that held his lover's hair. He ran his fingers through the thick braid, easily unbraiding it. He smiled as he buried his face in the thick chestnut brown hair, breathing in the intoxicating scent that was purely Duo.

"I love you," Duo whispered softly in return as he laid down and brought his lover with him.

"Yes, Mother. I'm fine, Mother. Everything is okay, Mother," Quatre reassured his mom as he struggled to cook dinner and talk to his parents at the same time. They were always so worried for him but he knew he would do fine without them bothering him. He was perfectly capable of living alone. Now, if only he could get his food cooked he'd be happy.

"Are you sure, Quatre? No complications?"

"Mother, I need to cook dinner," Quatre finally said. "I'll call you back later, all right? I'm fine really."

"All right, Quatre. I love you sweetie," Mrs. Winner said over the line.

"Love you too, Mom," Quatre said. "Bye." Then he quickly hung up before his mother said another word. He loved his mother but there came a limit to everything, especially with mothers who always suffocate you with their love.

Quatre quickly finished making dinner and brought it over to his living room and sat down on his couch. He had managed to unpack most of the things that were important so he could function normally till he got the rest of the stuff done.

He had already met some of his neighbors. Heero Yuy from his old high school, a blond haired girl with the strangest eyebrows named Dorothy Catalonia and a nice woman named Sally Po. He was going to like his neighbors, well, maybe not Heero. Even though he knew the Japanese boy from high school, there was no real connection between him and the young man. He still seemed a little mean around the edges but then he didn't seem like the type to throw parties so that was good.

Smiling contently, Quatre ate his dinner in front of the TV before calling his mother back for about another ten minutes. Then he washed up and turned in for the night.

Settling in his bed, Quatre smiled, as he knew everything was going to be good from now on. No more nightmares and haunted thoughts for him. He was starting all over, leaving behind the disappearance of his friend behind.
