Pinaceae
An old, broken specimen of Larix occidentalis growing east of Mt. Hood, Oregon
The pine family...  Where would humans in the northern hemisphere be without the pine family?  I grew up in a household that was supported in part by the timber trade.  I grew up with a reverence and respect for the woods.  Even though I live in Portland  now, I feel permanently tied to the woods.  Despite the popular concept of loggers being chain-saw wielding maniacs with dollar signs in their eyes...  many folks who make their living in the woods have a love for trees.  My dad and I share this love for the woods, and we both enjoy interesting conifer specimens.
Pine family genera in my collection:

Larix
Pseudolarix

Picea
Pinus
Pseudotsuga
