Famous Stars & What they Did in Singapore |

What touring bands did while they are in Singapore? For some of you, at least you can relate to them. This article was taken from a local paper Straits Times (9th Dec 96 by Elisabeth Gwee) and edited for this page. (er... without permission) I told you that food is big in Singapore. Favourites include spicy Indian dish & Hainanese Chicken Rice. But the biggest attraction is seafood. The favourite haunts are UDMC Seafood Centre on the East Coast & Newton Circus for pepper crab, stingray and tiger prawns. The latter's fame has spread so far that the Foo Fighters & Sonic Youth from the US, both demanded to be taken there as soon as they touch down at Changi Airport, said a spokesman from EMI. Richard Marx, Sylvester Stallone, Yanni and Japanese singers Chage & Aska played golf at Raffles Country Club. Stars like Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Survivor and KC & the Sunshine Band shopped for electronic goods, laser disc and computer software titles from Funan Centre and Sim Lim Square. Western visitors usually preferred more ethics pieces of clothing to take home - members of the band Worlds Apart flew back to England with Punjabi suits from Arab Street. Celebrities from Hong Kong & Taiwan prefer to buy the latest designer gear from boutiques like the Link at Ngee Ann City and Club 21 at the Four Seasons Hotel. During his visit to the Singapore Zoo, lead guitarist of the rock group Survivor, Frankie Sullivan, was so thrilled to see the Komodo dragon that he wanted to climb into the cage to have his pictures taken with it. His request was turn down. Take That, the Smashing Pumpkins and the Foo Fighters, however, were more successful - at the Night Safari. The Smashing Pumpkins were so thrilled to get so close to the lions and panthers that they could not stop raving how cool the place was.
